Thank you Sensei, you need to build a house from a strong foundation and the same applies to Isshinryu Karate. Great location for the explanation of the Dachi and it's uses!
Personally, I use both methods when a desired bunkai is needed. For me, straight forward or straight back gets me to the target faster. Where as Hangetsu dachi ( the half moon stance) allows, among other applications, standing take downs by going around your partner’s or opponent’s leg. Both methods should have ended “rooted” to the ground. In my dojo, in person and on Udemy, beginner karateka start sliding the foot straight forward or backwards. Thank you so much for tuning in!
I have thought if Tatsuo maybe didn't pull on things from older karate practices that may have been weaned out as Karate leaned toward education, Olympics, etc. As boxing changed as a sport, which before boxers used liniments to toughen their fists, held their hands differently bareboxing, etc. ??????????????

I've always wondered why some schools utilize crescent stepping and some don't.
