How random that I thought of this film last night... and it just happened to be uploaded a week ago. I was an extra in this. They came to my school and selected some of us from the school choir to play the girls' classmates in the film. So nostalgic.
Love this movie growing up. Watched when it was first shown on Channel 4 in The 1st Love Strand. Another one I love was P'tang,Yang Kipperbang. Great Times and Great Memories 📺
Brilliant bit of fun. I was doing National Service on Benbecula, Outer Hebrides at the time. because of that I only saw 2 league games, Everton, first home of the season & West Ham when I happened to be on leave. I resided in Reading & the Cup final being May, the Camp was preparing for what they termed, the firing season. RAGWR where I was stationed, testing missiles & Regiments came from depots abroad for the excitement. We had an OC leaving who was a good bloke, another was incoming & would be in command by the final event. I managed to wangle a few days leave, shot back to Reading & watched it at home. Our new OC was not aware I would be gone & when I returned & explained why I had been away made some crack about City losing a player to injury as there was no subs then. Anyway I put him right. Brings back a lot of things to me as Spurs retained the Cup just before I was demobbed, had to listen to that one on my radio as no leave left & just a few months later met my future wife when back in civvy street. Marilyn was a Woking girl. The double was a wonderful thing at the time but she was the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me.
I'm made-up that Julia/Danny became a football Journalist. I'm also glad that her parents worked things out. Her sleeping on the pitch was excellent. I often stay until everybody has gone after a game, and think, why can't I just stay here until next Saturday. What a truly brilliant film. Tranmere Rovers supporter Sara Sugarman was amazing in this film, hardly surprising that she (the cat's mother) married David Thewlis.
I wanted to know the actress who played the girl with bunions, Jailbird liz Campion has no photos of herself as an adult. I worked out what the other girls were called. One was Tubs one was jailbird. I tried to look up the actors but I could only see the actors for "Danny" Julia. I really liked this film I saw it in summer of 98. Before the living daylights first came out. Then I saw Rochester star from Jane eyre play bond. I was so happy. I also saw his version of Jane eyre video that summer. I like this film because the girls were my age and Julia obsessive like me.
@@Harryween I think the car that Danny Blanchflower drove was a Hillman Minx. My goodness me football celebrities lived such a different life back then.

The film was partially based on the life of Julie Welch who became a football journalist in real life.
That's an amazing cast at the beginning of the film and most of them are the extras!
Loved it ! I know what it's like to be a young, passionate fan.
This is the best film even make on t.v.
Perfect for spurs fans tonight as they Lost at home to The Glorious ARSENAL Today September 15 Sunday 2024
Great movie xx
