  • The ruins of the ancient city of Aksum are found close to Ethiopia's northern border. They mark the location of the heart of ancient Ethiopia, when the Kingdom of Aksum was the most powerful state between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. The massive ruins, dating from between the 1st and the 13th century A.D., include monolithic obelisks, giant stelae, royal tombs and the ruins of ancient castles. I graduated from Axum University in 2016 (G.C.). I know very well that Axum is a beautiful city.
An immense kingdom previously had its capital in historic Aksum in northern Ethiopia. Its historic cathedral was lastly restored in 1665 on the location of two earlier ecclesiastical structures. A number of monarchs whose Ethiopian Orthodox beliefs extended widely have been crowned on stone thrones.
The biggest Christian kingdom outside of the Roman Empire, Aksum is also known as Ethiopian Rome and serves as the capital of that ancient nation. A monk is rumored to guard the Ark of the Covenant, Ethiopia's real shrine, in the little chapel beside the cathedral.
Tables of the Ten Commandments that God sent to Moses are said to be contained in it. There are the remnants of a quite small complex on the western edge of Dongur today Known as the Palace of the Queen of Sheba in popular culture.
The Bible says that King Solomon invited the fabled Queen of the South to Jerusalem so that he could instruct her in the Jewish religion. Ethiopia's holiest site is still shrouded in mystery and folklore, despite the fact that little much of the medieval Aksumitic kingdom capital survives.

Sorry UNESCO, there is no ancient Ethiopia. The ancient land where Axisum was a city and Adulis as port city is called Geezland. The name derived from our ancient language Geez which still use it in our churches. We are known by Agazians (Geez people) , Habeshia ( Abyssinians) mainly live in Eritrea and Tigray.
