The plate also helps to keep the Trangia from sinking into the snow.

Thanks Rob, good video 👍. Here in the south of the U.K. the winter warmer is a bit of overkill. When it’s hovering around 0c I just add a few drops of meths around the outside of the burner in that small groove, which act like a pre-heater and seems to do the job. Regards from deepest Dorset 👍

Thanks Clive. Yeah it’s not always needed but speeds things up and doesn’t weigh much if you don’t bring the plate 👌🏼

what kind of alcohol did you use? does denatured alcohol or methylated performs well in winter conditions ?

It's methylalcohol. Good to have one with a large percentage, like 98%. It burns better than the cheap ones at 90%. It performs in the way that it's reliable and works, but it's slow, even in the summer. For melting snow, a multi-fuel burner is a better option.

    Nice demo,
Looked like a nice spot to stop, we’re you camping ? It’s a shame the kit is so bulky, where a gas stove is nice and small for back packing,
We’re you camping ? If so is there a video ?

It’s a camping sight close to a forest but private property and they’ve build these benches with a roof and there’s a fireplace inside. Don’t have a video of the camping unfortunately.
I still like the Trangia and use it a lot, but would not bring it in on a summer backpacking trip indeed. It is going with me to Sweden in March 👌🏼

they are bulky but work extremely well in very windy conditions where a gas stove won't stay lit.. i use mine when i'm camping along the washington and oregon coasts where conditions are so bad most people resort to cooking inside tents, which isn't exactly a safe thing to do.
