After many many hours of working on the stem it is finally finished! Now we just need to get it up on top of the mold. Not the easiest as it weighs around 100 kilos :)
We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on RUclips. While we are still sailing our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 50 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We post a new episode every Friday so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell to be the first to know when there is a new episode!

Love,
Malin, Johan & Vera
Johan, I've built a few things over the years and I've found that the only people who don't make mistakes are the ones who do nothing. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
I am in awe of your ability to match your brain with your hands and tools, it’s a real craftsman reveal
Johan you're not only a great craftsman but also an articulate educator. Kudos to you...
You seem surprisingly calm, when you consider the enormous task you have undertaken. The level of craftsmanship you demand from yourself is remarkable and I'm sure will result in a fabulous yacht, which you'll be able to sail proudly for years to come.
I'm amazed at how well that piece went into place. I couldn't have made it fit in a million years. I'm so proud of you two and how the boat is progressing.
The best sailboat building RUclips channel I've found so far.
Really interesting, captivating.
You do a really great and quality work!
Greetings from France
This is such an interesting build. The stem is beautiful and really shows off your skills.
I'm still amazed that you "found" the wood supply, it's been waiting for you this whole time. You're giving the wood new life and making it into a beautiful creation. Simply amazing watching it take shape.
Vera is right-handed (and talented painter). Johan has caught a cold. And Malin is so tiny when she wanted to help carry the prow! She is all heart!
I'm always amazed at your total command of English. This build is quite technical and you always explain it correctly using English. I'm reminded that it is not your native language when you speak casually with Malin and your friend. Of course, the stem is a piece of craftsmanship.
This is such a joy to watch. The level of attention given to every little detail is delivering a quality skeleton/frame for the planking thus rewarding you with a wonderful product. We can tell from the tone of your voices that you are proud of the work (while not gloating on the video) …and we’re so happy for you. Vera is so sweet to observed and we all love it. Merci 👍🇨🇦
Such a sweet voice on that short ARTIST! Thanks for the fun vid!
In a world of mass produced stuff meant to be used and thrown away, watching a skilled craftsman create something of lasting value is wonderfully satisfying.
What a level of craftsmanship. It's almost a shame to hide this piece of art. Greatings from Denmark.
This is definitely a Good Friday! Thank you for this wonderful episode!
Yes I agree Jesus was a carpenter.
Hey guys, I get so much pleasure from watching your videos that I felt compelled to become a patron (you are my first and only!) … and please don’t think of me being patronising (I’m married to a non native English speaker) but there’s a lot of technical language involved in these videos and your English is excellent! Keep up the great work and I look forward to next week’s video 👍
Thank you so much for supporting our videos 🤗 And we try to read up on the technical terms and we hope we get most of them correct ☺️
As I have said before he is a gentle Viking. History In my head, I picture "Hey you want to go on a raid"? "No, I would like to build the boats". " Good luck on your raid. but did you see my new design".
That's the way I picture him as a Man's Man doing what he enjoys and is very good at it.
It’s so enjoyable and instructive to see this process. Johan’s explanations are really clear and concise, the artistry of his craftsmanship is a demonstration of being in flow.
So glad to see you wearing safety equipment. Very smart.
Congrats to this massive achievement!! I had a big smile of happiness on my face while watching your struggles getting stem in place.
Thank you for keeping Ran Sailing very interesting while you are ashore. It is a transition you have accomplished with great success. Also compliments on the fine video and audio production quality.
This stem is a magnificent wooden beast ! Good for you it did not slide during the installation. Gravity will make sure it stays in place now. I guess the planking will require less Viking brute force !
That router is so impressive! Of course that is down to the user.
My brain would have exploded trying to accomplish this task. Bravo!
Wow great to watch that all fall into place ,Johan is the new Floki with his boat building skills and Viking ancestors. seriously tho excellent viewing watching the three of you on the build.
Wow I was not going to watch another boat built after tally ho anchor and sailing yaba but you and your wife sir amazing you got me well done can’t wait till next week
That yacht is going to have an impressive plumb bow. A great first step.
Yes! Ran III is taking shape! I think a dragon head would be a great addition to the top of the bow….
Good Friday to you all. Vera is a real artist, Malin installation dance was pure magic and Johann is an exceptional carpenter. His modest approach to life is terrific. May your Family enjoy the Easter weekend on Sunny Farm. Congratulations with respect to the new stem, you have been certainly putting in the hours. Can't wait for the planking to start. Thank you so very much for your positive and continual instructions.
Congratulations, you have officially started assembling your new home!
What a gorgeous stem! Truly a Viking ship for modern times!
Thank u for taking showing a video on boat building. Can't wait to see the boat on the water. I keep on watching the previous EPs. Good luck.
A dragon head under the bowsprit would look amazing!
First permanent piece, congratulations. Stay safe.
Retired engineer in New Zealand and absolutely loving watching you build this yacht, your craftsmanship is on point, beautiful job.
You must love your job!! My Grand dad was a train driver too!!
This boat is shaping up nicely. Congratulations for all the skills, hard work and for Vera's decorations. 🙂 I was looking at the height of your barn ceiling and how the boat occupies the space. I am curious about your plans to turn the hull, sit it on a wheeled structure and have enough room to work on the deck. I know it is a bit into the future but that should put your MacGyver skills to extra test. 🙂 Stay strong!
Great job Johan, Malin, the bow frame looks terrific, and it all seems to fit together so well. Thanks for sharing..
Both of you, I mean all three of you, are so enjoyable to watch.
A warm and hearty congratulations to you both, getting the stem in place is a real milestone.
Congratulations! A real milestone. I liked the upside-down/right-side up video editing!
Johan Just WOW what an incredible addition to the hull.I am in AWE at the carpentry skills.
Wow! Those are some incredibly big and heavy pieces of wood. Yes, I agree it looks like it should before a Viking ship.
That shaper router is the craziest thing I,ve ever seen!! It boggles my imagination!!!!
Been so busy.
Wonderful Friday night enjoying a Ran video! ⛵⚓⛵❤❤
Woohoo indeed! A woodworking tour de force. Congratulations! 🙂
Wow... I am loving this series... in the early 1980s I was planning on building a Gougeon brothers cold molded sailboat... then I visited Spencer boats in my area and watched the pros do the interior... I realized how out of my league I was... these videos confirmed it all... You are amazing.... so talented... good job!
I've been following each episode and anxiously waiting for the next one - this one is special - congratulations on this important milestone.
Dude, that stem is a work of art! Nice job!
Well, this turned out much better than I thought.
It's a beauty, excellent work.
I can't wait for next Friday to arrive.
Congratulations Johan and Malin your boat is going to be beautiful.
Besides, I was seeing that Vera already started with the paint jobs very well.
Well done. That some accurate craftsmanship. Craft-man-ship.😮
Such amazing workmanship ... Congratulations guys !!
Congratulations on getting the stem in place. Looks magnificent!
Wow... True craftsmanship. What a pleasure it is to watch and learn.. We are so thrilled that your family is so such a part of the build too.. Our love and best wishes for your build progress ❤️ J&G (NZ)😊
You are a craftsman Johan!! Congratulations on your progress.
Great to watch Ran 3 coming together and loving the precision
Best wishes to you all
That's fantastic! Congrats on getting the first major piece installed. Really exciting. Love the vlog :)
It's so great to watch all of the progress. Impressive.
A great milestone! It looks like a relatively small (albeit heavy!) piece in the overall scheme of things, until one stops to consider the thousands of miles of ocean that it will part for you in your future adventures. Keep on building, and I'll keep on watching! ❤
Big congrats! I hope you have enough energy left after the boat build to sail!
US woodworkers call them floating tenons. Festool dominos are a type. Nice videos. I really like the window in front of the bench. Nice video and work light too.
Great video again! Can I suggest that you get that door in ASAP? There are going to be literally 100's of times that you will wish you have unfetterd acces and room around the bow of the boat between now and then, so the sooner you get it is, the easier your life will be.
While you are at it, you could make a lean-to extension on the end of the barn so that you gain some room on the end so you won't have to open the door much. A few meters hould easily be possible and you could do most of the arrangements and work without much help. The hardest part is going to be sizing and installing a beam over the opening (and you will need to do that whatever you do to that end wall) and also ensuring that you are addressing shear strength in the wall once you have taken out a big portion of the end wall.
RAN lives again!!
Were Swedish swear words flying off-camera when Johan realized the template wasn't right? This episode reminded me that when we're building something, whether a software product or sailing yacht, mistakes happen. Mistakes like this challenge our patience, but the best craftsman calmly regroup and adapt. I tip my hat to Johan and Malin.
It gets more and more exciting
That is super exciting!
Some serious grunts lifting that piece!!!
YOU guys just made my weekend better thank you 😊
Impressive. I’m confident Johan knows this. When I do an epoxy gkue up I never dispose my mixing cup right away. I leave next to the glue up, the best way to check if the epoxy is fully cured.
After all the use of the Shaper, you need to mill up a small piec of the shapere tape in wood, frame it and place it somewhere in the finished boat. A littele reminder of the kilometers of tape you might have use by then.
I love Vera‘s paintings.
Y'all are doing a fantastic job on your new vessel. Even at my age (64), I am learning a lot of things . In my younger years I built ships and Tugs, all steel and aluminum, never out of wood. I can appreciate your attention to detail. Have a great Easter weekend.
I've said it before, but I love this project! It's so satisfying to watch you guys bild the boat of you dreams. Thanks! 😍
I’ve said it before, but that router is just so amazing. What a great tool. And your work with it is impressive. 👏
you guys are my heroes! casualy fixed up giant wooden thing almos singlehanded.... ! LOVE your work!
That Shaper doohicky is crazy nice and capable.
Any RAN Friday is a good Friday, but especially this one. Congrats!
So impressed with your work, my spouse and I are both woodworkers who come from woodworking families. That Router is nothing short of amazing.
The boat build has officially started ..... so looking forward to seeing it come together and the first sail
Great work
It is so satisfying to watch the progress of this build every week. I am so impressed with Johan skills, the workmanship is topnotch. Great work.
Watching your boat build is. exciting ..
Thanks be to God for your friend to help you guys
I don't know how, but all the people I've seen using that router, somehow managed to put that tape on a surface they use over and over, not on the actual piece, so they don't need to get rid of the tape when the work is finished. Maybe it is because of the size of the pieces, not sure, but I think you can save some money with that trick. Awesome job guys!! Hej då!!!
Glad påsk 🐣, alltid härligt att titta på era videos.
Problem solving skills on top form!
Dont know about you Johan...
But only now, and after this first piece was done, i start to realize the scale of the amount of work that will be needed to build that boat!
You have the skills, another pair of hands from Malin and even Vera is already inserting some modifications to the original project :)
In the end, following your sailing adventures on this boat will became even more interesting!
Great job, Johan, Malin and Vera :)
Congratulations you are very brave (and knowledgeable).
Excellent work it’s a beautiful piece of carpentry
I look forward to every episode! You are doing a wonderful job!
Malin and Johan, your progress is astonishing, take a short break. You've earned it. I could go on and on about the quality of this build, but I would just be echoing the feelings of all of your viewers. tm
🤗🥰
Love watching your project come together. 🤗💞
That Stem is a beautiful piece of real Craftsmanship, nice job....
Incredible! Awesome work Ran III Crew! 🎉
I'm going to have to set aside some time and binge this whole endeavour
She is helping!
Well done guys! It looks soooo good. I got so excited when it landed perfectly in place.
Excellent work --- I have great Admiration for Your Endeavors !!!!!!!!!!
I’m really impressed with how well the stem fits, really nice work.
So exciting. I had to pause on the up side down view. The first piece, congratulations. "Renewed energy," I suspect there will be many more to come.
Johan, your skills as a master craftsman are truly remarkable, as is your seemingly endless patience! I think you should actually consider the Dragon figurehead that you mentioned in the video...it would make for a striking image. Great job!
Friday again and highlight of the week. It's wonderful to see the slow and steady progress of the build. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
Another week of great progress, congratulations and thank you for sharing. The Shaper Workstation would be helpful when cutting all these smaller parts.
These videos will be such a gem for your family in the future! Your boat is going to look awesome!!
A grand step forward.....
