IL Cylons aren't designed to be sturdy or resilient & if one of them went into battle, he / it would last 30 seconds - a solid minute at maximum before getting blown into half - melted erector set parts.
He once said that it was quite boring to play heroes because they were so predictable, whereas with a good villain you could explore all sorts of interesting aspects of human nature. And he thought playing villains was more fun. ("Villains like blondes have more fun.") You really see he's having a ball sinking his teeth into a good villain (there are only two other actors who can do it with the same gusto, and they are both from Austria). However, he also did play two heroes, Hamlet and the young man in Heart of Darkness (I have forgotten the actual name of the character), both times, interestingly, to Lorne Greene in the role of the villain. And he must have been incredibly talented, being the youngest actor ever to play Lear on the stage of the Old Vic in London (until Nonso Anozie came along a few decades later) at 22 or 23.
