I hope the person goes to prison for life for what he did to her. A smart person would simply hang up the phone and call the relative to see if they are okay. @bobroberts2371 Phone companies have technology that can stop scammers from spoofing phone numbers. They also have technology that can tell where a call originates from.
Banks can install protocols of having clients (especially the elderly) fill out details about what the money they want to withdraw is for. Had the bank mgr. simply asked the details of why the woman wanted to withdraw this large amount of cash, the scam would've ended right there before any damage was done.

They tried that with a older relative of mine. His answer to them was perfect. He said my grandson has parents, call them, then he hang up the phone.

Our elders have been targets forever. This is nothing new. Protect your loved ones and look out for your elderly neighbors! You will be where they are one day.

I took away my father's phone and nobody talked to him, unless they went through me.

My older mom with dementia got many scam calls saying her grandson was in jail and they needed money. I am so glad she never succumbed to their requests and I was able to finally take her in to care for her. Hideous bunch that target people, overall and in general!
