This stuff actually works! I just repaired a chip on my granite countertop about a fingernail (pinky) wide and about half inch deep. I am very happy with the results; you can't see or feel where the chip used to be. The acrylic did take longer than three minutes to dry. I played it safe and waited about ten minutes and was worth it. I also used too much acrylic at first, but once it dried, I did a little more (light) sanding and the extra acrylic came off. The polish included helped wonders after all the sanding. Thank you StoneTooling for this great step by step instructional video as my kit did not come with written instructions. Thanks for letting me know about the little switch in back of the UV light, it is so tiny that without your tip, I would have never seen it. The same applies for the clear plastic film. I also give the ProCaliber Granite & Marble Repair Kit a big thumbs up. It saved me a great deal of money on this repair.

Does countertop repair still look good, or did you have to redo it after time? Is it located in an area that is regularly cleaned?

Nice video. I need to buy one of these repair kits since I chipped my shower curb with a bullnose tile.

If you are trying to repair acrylics or manufactured marble, be careful with your sanding. I found that the decorative marble pattern didn't go very deep, so I was left with a white halo around the repair. I polished it to a high gloss but that didn't help.

You can get acetone at the dollar store in the nail polish section. Don't buy regular nail polish as some say acetone free. They carry 100% acetone nail polish. Make sure that is what the label says. It also makes a cheap goo remover for stickers and will also remove hot glue on fabric. Use a q tip to apply and it dies in a minute and peels off.

It depends upon how hot it gets. Our Light-Curing Acrylic is rated up to 285 degrees

Just a tip. Im sure if you used fresh razor blades to scrape down in a sweeping motion and then buffed up with the paste it would turn out awesome. never tried but it works for polyester resin.

This specific ProCaliber Kit is meant more for chips and scratches. For the crack in your granite I would recommend the Axson Penetrating Acrylic Crack Sealer. Copy and paste that product name in the search box on our website and it will come up.

What have you got for a long crack behind the sink? Goes all way through and 1/8 + wide. Some crumbling also. About 40 inches long

The question is how long does the repair last after using the counter top? After washing the counter top daily with soap and water, what happens to the repair? I could put brown ink marker on that scratch and get similar results but how long will the result last is the big question. Plus acrylic is not known to have good durability, is it?

Ah weird, I dunno why it bounced back, but good thing I checked here! Thanks again!
And if anyone wondered what I asked: "I found the Crack Sealer, but I notice it doesn't come with the UV light and sandpaper stuff like the kit in the video has. Do I need to buy those separate? Also, the Crack Sealer says that it works by "accepting polyester color to match stone colors". Does this mean I have to buy a separate color to tint the sealer to match the granite color? Thanks!"

Great video. If you made it to advertise your online store then it worked, I'll be buying from you guys. One question though, would this kit be suitable for repairing cracks? I have a hairline crack running about 18 inches from the back of my granite to near the front.

The crack sealer does not require a UV light or sandpaper and it can be tinted with coloring paste (search axson coloring paste on our website). Frankly, our experienced restoration customers use the product and I would be careful if you have no experience with stone restoration and do a lot of testing before working on your actual stone.

Quick question: I just got this kit and the “UV” light really just seems blue. I have a stand-alone UV light. Should I use the actual UV? Will there be a better cure?

  • @Stonetooling
    @Stonetooling  12 лет назад

Just tried replying to your email but it bounced back. The crack sealer does in fact come with the UV light and sandpaper. You’re just filling a hairline crack and the sealer is clear so you shouldn’t have any problems with color.

I can still see where the damage was. However because the stone has with it, I don't think people would see it, if they hadn't watched you do it. I suspect it shows because you did it in a dark area. The Procaliber shows a dark repair kit, which might have been better.

None of these repair videos comment on how well this stuff will adhere in the bottom of an acrylic sink where water is regularly hitting the repair like every day. Anybody had experience with this type of repairs? If so, is this the right product or is there something better? Thanks!

That looks like the same stuff you can buy at auto parts store to repair chips on windshield.

It will be tacky because it is actually a GEL product, not a traditional type acrylic. Gel always has a tacky or dispersion layer on top after the cure.
Also, do not use nail polish remover. Use ONLY 100% acetone. Be sure the bottle ingredients have NO other ingredient on it. If there is water or fragrance in the ingredients, it is NOT 100% acetone. You can get small bottles at Sally Beauty Supply.
    Thanks for this demo.

Dude to get the surface flat remove the tape and use the edge of a single edged razor blade to get the glue level. Scrape at 90% to the surface. Then sand with fine until smooth surface. Buff...Polish!
I was not impress with the finishing process...Use of the tape is a negative. The sand paper is designed not to scratch the granite.

This product does not work as is being shown it does not dry out. Is a cheap glue.
