    Hey Bill! Have a look at IQON skates, the TR10 softboot has a lean and minimal design, or the AG10 for more rugged usage. I like the AG10 because it has a removable liner. I paired mine with a 90mm rockered frame and it's awesome fast 👍

      Hey, these look interesting, thanks for sharing, looks like the smallest size they have for the TR10’s is a 38 at first glance anyway. That’s too bad.

      I love my ag10 boots. Mainly use them with Wizard frames (pr76 and nr100). The frames have a built in heel raise to account for ufs mounting being completely flat. Nr100 is Billy like a brick shithouse, so would probably work well for stairs.
      Only downside with the ag10 is that it doesn’t come with intuitions, I find the stick liner a little sweaty. I haven’t tried it, but it sounds like intuition v2 liner has a narrow enough fit that it would work well with the boot. My intuition premiums don’t fit it properly.
      Also ufs should be nicer for distribution the force more evenly to the whole foot when jumping

    I know that they are not as sexy or expensive a skate as some, but I prefer FR1's. I have tried many skates and FR1's are the most solid, strong, stable, and durable skate that I have worn. A set of Endless frames 90 mm frames makes them perfect.

    I do a similar style of city bashing and I really enjoy my FR SL with Endless so far. Top quality, all carbon skate with a hinged carbon cuff and integrated liner. I wasn’t sure I’d like a carbon freestyle skate for city skating, but I won’t go back now. I love that the cuff is lower than my plastic urban skates (FR1 Intuition) but the carbon cuff gives a lot of support. Power transfer is better than plastic for sure. It feels much closer to that hockey skate feel I lost when I went to a plastic urban skate with a liner. And the Endless frames seem purpose built for how I skate. Fantastic setup.
    I hope you find something you like that fit your feet!

      Curious - Why the SL over the SL Speed? I got the FR1 boot and loves it, but considering buying the SL for Urban Skating (not slalom) and as I also like ice skating I guess the SL Speed is closer to a hockey boot than the SL? What are your take on this?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline Год назад +1

      @@AndreasHegartPetersen the speed version doesn’t have a cuff and is lower, so it doesn’t have the same support. It’s not like I’m an aggressive skater, but I do like a good stair bash and some jumping, lots of fast level and direction changes etc. The speed version just doesn’t look like something I’d want to ride down stairs with. Of course it’s called “speed” because it’s closer to a speed skate. Though it does look like like it’s got some ankle support. If I could have tried both versions, I would have but I was still assuming the SL was the right boot for me. When I got mine I couldn’t find the speed anywhere in my size that I could return.
      Edit: also, when I mentioned missing a hockey style skate, I meant the integrated liner and more ankle mobility. I still prefer city bashing in something more supportive than a hockey skate though. My ankles are more free in my SL than my FR1, but I’m still supported by the carbon cuff.

    Hey Bill, love watching you skate and excited to see more from you on some new setups! Something I'm sure you know already but just wanted to keep on your radar is the importance of the stack-up inside your skate. You can dramatically change the characteristic of a boot by adding different insoles, heel pads, spacers, etc. Especially since you value shock absorption, something like the kingfoam heel savior can dramatically reduce pain and vibration in carbon skates. I've been rocking a combo of the kingfoam heel savior and a superfeet carbon pro hockey in my hardcore evos and it's leagues better than the stock insole that come with the skate. I know Nicholas Swan prefers the even more shock-absorbing flat kingfoam elite insoles in his urban skates because of all the jumps he does.
    Anyways, just another variable to tune as you continue your quest for your next skate. Looking forward to more great content, you rock!

    * Edit: If money is no object, I just noticed that there is a carbon model - Powerslide Hardcore Evo Sam Crofts Pro 80. It's also 4x80 if you prefer shorter frames.
    - - -
    Carbon is kind of exposed and fragile for assault skating, no? If you're willing to forgo carbon, the new Powerslide Next Charcoal 90 seems built for you. PS just improved the liner, and it comes with the new Combat frames, which allows 6-way rockering for each wheel. Strong construction, extra length for jumping stability combined with the Trinity mount is hard to beat (except by Adapt's quad mount 😂) for urban assault.

    Hi Bill, you might try holding out for the release of the Iqon TR20 that was teased on their Instragram last year. It seems similar to the Powerslide HC Evo, but has a removable liner and shock absorber. It's got a carbon cuff like the TR10, so the cuff area would be stiff like adapts, but you could swap it for a plastic cuff if you wanted a little more flex there. They are trinity boots - but I count that as a bonus. I swapped from a pair of gutted HC Evo Intuitions with NN 5x80 frames to a Wizard Seba SX PR80, and the drop in power transfer for A-to-B skating was noticeable. I only made the change because I cracked 2 pairs of Evos in 2 years, but I feel that they were the better all-around setup. Hopefully the Iqon boots will be stronger.

    • @loicerp927
      @loicerp927 Год назад +1

      Hi, did you keep the soul plate on the Seba?
      You should lose those if you want better power transfer (or cut it like Shaun from flow skate channel who did it for that purpose).
      Because without them, you should not feel that much of a diffrence between trinity and UFS on a carbon boot. I mean, if it was that obvious, trinity would be forbiden in competition like some nike shoes had been for marathon. It should make a real diffrence on plastic boots though.

    • @Phorpse
      @Phorpse Год назад +1

      @@loicerp927 Hi there. I'm not currently using the soul plates for that reason. I wanted the most direct connection to the frame. I do track all of my skating through strava and have noticed a 3-4km/h drop-off on trail skating, as well as more fatigue over time, but the Wizard lions/gazelles feel better in the Sebas.
      I think it has more to do with the low/flat heel that a UFS mount implies. In my opinion, a raised heel boot (165/trinity) is just better for A-to-B skating. You can kind of see it in marathon and race skating, where UFS is non existent and the popular options are aluminum trinity frames and carbon 165 ones. I do think that the little extra bit of frame (under the front of the foot on a trinity boot) really helps. Also maybe why Adapt got into the quatro-mount, though I haven't tried that one yet so I can't say how much the extra frame on the heel helps. It would be interesting to see if Powerslide makes a carbon trinity racing frame in the future, and if that shifts people away from 165 in that discipline.

  • @marcsteiner7175
    @marcsteiner7175 Год назад

    You’re definitely on the right track with endless frames. Their subtle rock is great. And they have put a great deal of effort getting the wheels in the right position in relation to the boot. Having a hinged cuff will give you the additional support needed to manage larger wheels. I would recommend the 4×90 endless LR (Low Ride) frames. Skip the removable shock absorbing liners-That’s just gonna make your skates feel less responsive. Instead, try a softer wheel, such as some of the nice dual core wheel options available nowadays. As for the skate boots, It’s going to be hard to beat the Powerslide HC Evo Trinity for hinge flexibility, and low ride height. Don’t forget to heat mold the boots.. and be sure to always tie the laces all the way up to the cuff. And don’t over tighten the laces- that’s what’s going to crush your ankle bones. You can always adjust the buckle tightness as needed while you are skating. I hope this helps.

    I also really like to optimize my setup. I want big wheels for cushion, but low to the ground. I want huge side-to-side stiffness of the boot but some bending motion. And I want the best "lacing" system that lets you crank it tight quickly. My current best combo:
    Disroyal's TR-10 boot (with Trinity mount)
    Frame for 4x90: Endless 90 LR Trinity Frame
    Frame for 3x125: POWERSLIDE Elite 125 / 255 BlackTri Frame
    I think the Trinity mount with these frames is as low to the ground you'll ever get for the wheel size. The wheel is millimeters from your foot. I prefer 4x90 for the lower feeling and 3x125 for the better roll.
    The boot is snug with an incredibly stiff cuff, and heatmolds well if you have any problems. The BOA lacing + ratcheting top strap is the ideal setup. Prove me wrong:)

    From a 60 yr old ex hockey player to now a short track speed skater my favorite off ice skate is a pair of Mission hilow hockey boots made of leather. The good fitting boot allows me to run loose laces for ankle mobility while hugging my foot. The hilow setup works like a rocker on my ice hockey skates. My other skates: powerslide swell 100s are okay but I hate the high cuff and buckles IMHO suck. My speed skates are made from man made material and just never fell good enough to call comfortable. I wouldn't mind trying to do an interchangeable inline frame setup on leather hockey boots. Funny thing is I picked up my favorite pair while looking for bike parts at the goodwill and paid only 15 dollars for them in new condition. Even after a couple sets of wheels they are my favorite at this time. All my other skates have been new. Bont, Viking, Powerslide, and my old ice hockey skates (CCM Vacutacks) from the mid 90s slowing falling apart from many seasons of adult hockey. I suggest you give the FR/UFR line another chance. The shell design even reminds one on the superleggera, but they were first ;-) Take care with the shell sizing though. Your last attempt with the Crown liner seemed to be way too big. The Intuition liner versions should be really nice, but going with the Intuition Premium liner could offer a much more supportive tongue for example. Fine tuning for the setup and session! Sizing might also be non trivial with these liners.
    Also the ufs mount version (UFR) opens the gate to a huge amount of nice frame options like a 80mm longer wheelbase flat setup for example. (Almost nonexistent in 165mm mount, but for downhills I prefer these compared to any kind of rockered configuration.) These offer a super low center of gravity partly thanks to the better mounting bolt placement.

    FR SL Speed or FR SL would be my go to, I've got both and I love them. I really wanted to try the Adapt skates as an "upgrade" from those. I don't like HC EVO skates almost nonexistent padding and cheap feel, despite the pricetag, also being forced into trinity mount, plenty of options but if you already have a big frames collection might be a bummer.

    Over time I began to feel like having a cuff was just redundant. It didn't seem to inhibit my ability but it didn't really do anything to add to the experience either.
    I found that the biggest thing I was looking for was just consistency in the feel. I didn't want to feel my foot move in the boot to any noticeable degree and I feel i was able you accomplish that with laces alone provided that the boot was good enough.
    All that said, I've been skating 2019 HC EVOs with the cuffs and buckles removed for a few years now and it's been a really good experience. I don't feel any pinch points at all and the boot really forms pretty well to my leg all the way up above my ankle. Which again, speaking for myself, was important because I just want consistency above all else.
    You know... As I'm writing this I wonder if you have ever considered reaching out to True hockey and having them make a foot scan and boot for you. I've never tried their stuff but I've held a few pairs and I've always felt their boots and liners looked and felt comfortable.
    At any rate good luck Bill. I love your videos and look forward to seeing what's next.
    Edit: also, there's just something about ice for sure that's pretty special. I love skating on wheels for the freedom of it all and the accessibility no doubt but a fresh sheet of ice with sharp steel is without equal.
    I love how when you're really dialed in on ice that you feel like you're on rails. The Gs you can generate in some of the turns and the sharp angle you can drive into the ice through your edges.
    If only we could replicate that feeling on asphalt.

    I have to admit, I think that Adapts are sick, but I always wished you'd endorse a skate brand that was a little more accessible to broke folks like me! I have to say, my favorite skates right now are a frankensteined micro mt3 boot with Seba GT frames and Flying Eagle SHB 90mm wheels. Micro has some of the most comfy boots I've ever skated in. I know they're kind of controversial in some ways, but my poor self would happily buy a hypothetical Micro BSS signature skate!

Plus, with the Trinity mount, I can put all the frames I have on the EVO if I want a full boot to boot!! Hey Bill, quick question...what camera do you use use when skating? And how do you remove the selfie stick??

    • @B0K1T0
      @B0K1T0 Год назад +1

      I have both wizard boots and the adapt GTO (2 year old model). Think I prefer the adapts so far, although I also have some ankle pressure points that are hard to get rid of by heat molding etc., due to some unfortunate anatomy.
      I do have to break in the wizards though (and want to heat mold them some time), so I can't make an honest comparison yet. Nonetheless, must say I'm hugely impressed by both skates (but that should be the case for such a price).
      One downside for Bill specifically could be that those seba / wizard boots seem to be on the heavier side (but not sure if that's also because of the frames in my case)

    • @22chainlink22
      @22chainlink22 Год назад

      Good stuff Huib.
      I've been wanting to just get the wizard carbon boots with the v3 intuition liner, and slap some 4x 84 frame under there and let it form a natural rocker. (Just .5mm or something)
      You'd think those would be relatively light, I want them as light as possible as well. The wizard frames are all inherently heavy, hence my idea to put on some lighter nimble frames.
      I think that'd be awesome for my style of skating. (It's similar to Bill's I'd say, just a lot of ''aggresive running'' over the streets haha.

Already saw mention of the Rollerblade Crossfire which look fantastic. But, Bill. If you like ice skating, you should be on quads. Get yourself some Bauer conversions. The short wheelbase gives you that rocker-like maneuverability while the width gives you all the power and stability you need to take on the streets. And they look cool as shit!
