I'm happy that people move here, it's just frustrating that the majority of the Black locals don't have a place/agency in how the city is changing and now that it's no longer a majority black city because most have been displaced, it doesn't have the same Black Atlanta culture or community. I moved back after college cause I missed my home and it felt like overnight whole communities have been wiped out to make way for "luxury housing", it's very alienating.
But a decent percentage of Black ppl live in luxury housing. No it's not the majority but enough. Diversity in Atlanta is great for the city. I'm Black and feel like all Black everything is overrated. The suburbs are becoming more majority Black so yall who want that go there
@@grayscar05 Its not real diversity when Atlanta is segregated by income. Atlanta has the highest income inequality in the country. The blk surburbs wont be that in the rate its going and blk ppl will continued to be pushed further out with less access to resources and employment opportunities. @@hallease That's a self inflicted problem. If you compare the academic performance of Black American students vs White students vs Asian students you'll get your answer. Unfortunately the backwards and racist here would stop that from happening. It makes absolutely no sense for a metropolitan area as large as ATL to not have an efficient transportation system.
Yeah, I feel like if this city invested in transit systems other than highways as cities grew the charm might stay a little longer. Also helping the lower class.
Having lived in Atlanta without a car before you can actually get to most parts of the city using a combination of rail and bus transit. Problem is infrequent bus and sometimes train schedules can make it take imo unacceptably long at times. Now traveling to places OTP, however, can be a very different story. Marta rail for all its flaws is still one of the most heavily used rail transits in the US with much higher ridership than most of the cities that aren’t top tier. Impressive considering they receive no funding from the state or much of the region even.
Ive lived inside and outside of the city of Atlanta and I too was stunned at the amount of times i lost power just because there was a rumor of a storm coming.

The algorithm pulled this video up and I was lowkey like oh snap! I watched this channel in college and now we are all grownups! I’ll keep my eyes open for you all in these mean ATL streetz!
My husband and I just relocated outside Atlanta from Houston. We love it a lot. It’s only been 3 months for us so we are still exploring. Our current apartment works for now, but it’s also our launching pad. We shop at Kroger, Wal-Mart and Aldi.
I recently moved to Alpharetta a few months ago. I do find myself wanting to move closer to ITP. I work from home so I figure the traffic wouldn’t bother me too me much. I’m loving it here so far. Always something to do and so diverse, which is a must for me. I joined a few hiking groups and thinking about joining a running group. I love that ATL is growing. I’m here for it.
I appreciate that there's no small shortage of clubs or organizations to join based on your interests. It's been a great way to find footing and meet people in a bigger city than where I'm from.
I've lived in San Antonio and even though the people weren't mean, I was very aware that I was the only black person in almost every space I occupied - I left in 2008. I think it's reverse for your husband and it's okay to feel that way. It's the reason I loved Atlanta even though the demographics seems to be changing but I LOVED seeing people who looked like me in every space and different personalities and professional levels. The same can be alienating if you aren't black or white. Have y'all had this honest conversation?
Agreed on recycling and miss the ease of composting on the west coast (moved there for a few years then back to Atlanta). You can take glass recycling to Charm (non profit recycling center) and other hard to recycle items. Their location is right next to Grant park. Also not sure if YDFM still has recycling in their parking lot (I haven't been since I moved back), but if it is you can do produce/meat and recycling in one trip. We get our groceries from Freedom Park Farmers Market every saturday mainly bc we live across the st. Grant park farmers market is subpar for produce/meat, but amazing for pastries. If we miss the market or want asian ingredients, we make a trek out to either HMart in doraville or Great Wall on Pleasant hill. We also go to costco for meats - just depends on how far we want to drive and how many crazies we want to deal with. Even weekday morning costco is crazy. We still pick up bread, bananas, oranges, eggs from kroger more frequently since its walking distance. Also not sure if this is creepy but I think I saw y'all doing a morning run on the beltline once! Edit to add the freedom farmers market produce is amazing. If life gets busy and we don't get to it right away, it keeps for 10x longer than standard grocery store produce. It's not more expensive and it's way tastier. Also bonus pro, it doesn't all come wrapped in plastic so you don't end up with 172839473 plastic bags you need to figure out what to do with afterwards.
33 51..... Kroger is a grocery conglomerate. They're looking to merge with some other grocery chain and basically monopolize the grocery industry. I forget which video I saw about that.
I often wish Atlanta had an in town urban riverwalk or something. The closest thing to that we have is a couple of nature trails along the Chattahoochee just outside town. The Chattahoochee inside Atlanta is dominated by either inaccessible industrial areas or inaccessible natural reserves. I hate that. It’s a missed opportunity for Atlanta to have a really chill water spot for citizens. A hidden gem I recently discovered outside the city however is the Vickery Creek trail up in Roswell that includes a waterfall.
