      I've spent some time playing with high rank mercies & learning from them as well as helping some friends out with ranking up specifically to at least diamond on mercy. You should be diamond. It's just difficult to solo queue or leave behind dps players who should be at that lower rank, my assumption is the genji here was calling out for you to stay with them, while they really lack fundamental understandings & that cost you a lot of the earlier fights. Trust your own instincts as-well as use the advice emongg gave you, you'll hit diamond easily.

    Learning when *not* to rez with Mercy is honestly one of the hardest things to do. Especially when you have teamates shrieking at you to rez them and demanding to know why you didn't. Learning have the patience, timing and positining to make that split second call on rezzing is a lot harder than most people realize and one of the keys to climbing.

    Mercy should have pocketed Soldier a lot more. The hero is generally a better and safer pocket target than Genji, and trying to pocket Genji put her out of position too much. Visor should definitely be prioritized to pocket almost always. This Mercy has very good movement, but she is using her movement as positioning, instead of for positioning. Since slingshot/SJ has a 3 second cooldown, it is really important to not waste it too much. That will get punished at higher ranks very quickly. It is ok to stay in one location for periods of time as long as it's safe and you are ready to fly at any moment. It's also important to accept that some teammates can just not always be saved or res'd. Your life as a support is more valuable. Especially when the teammate in question has been feeding. I think this Mercy can definitely climb back up with some simple adjustments like exercising more caution/restraint and target priority. It also helps to be comfortable on at least 1 other support for situations where your team comp is just not great for pocketing anyone, or your teammates just can't finish kills even with damage boost. I recommend Kiriko.

    So I’m a GM Mercy and they mentioned they wanted to play in GM with their friend. They get away with a lot of things here because it’s Gold. Their movement is fine for Gold/Plat but their reaction time would be slow/sluggish in Masters/GM lobbies. They don’t turn around, they tend to watch their healing target. High level Mercy players are paranoid and are constantly looking around (for escape routes, for flanks, for possible danger).
    They also like to use their movement AS positioning and when the hitscans can hit their shots that’s just gonna get you killed. Their DB priority is also kinda… like they have a perfectly good Soldier but they’re intent on pocketing the Genji. The other Support is a Life Weaver so it’s fine to leave the Genji to him. The Soldier is the safer choice for positioning too.

  • @kristindobbs6056
    @kristindobbs6056 8 месяцев назад +88

    my advice from a gm support is def prioritize your pocket targets. don’t go in the enemy backline with tracer as you’re a huge target. Pocket soldier instead and get more value. Your movement is great actually, you just need to work a bit more with positioning. The best thing about mercy is she can fly and she has pretty solid movement so always play cover so the enemy can’t get you. but also don’t rely on mercy only to climb. Learn other supports. Mercy does not work in every situation when it comes to metal ranks even in high ranks, too. She’s very team dependent and if you’re dps are not doing their job, she has no value at all. sometimes it helps to have extra dmg on your team when your dps aren’t performing. overall, you did a great job.

    One thing I can recommend to this mercy is to look around her more and keep notes on where they are at, especially if you cant see everyone on their team. If you are just focused on what your beam target is doing it can often end in death. If she were to look around more she can get a feel for the enemy's positioning and position herself better. She would also be able to notice any sneaky flankers who might be trying to pull off an ult. I personally tend to never look at my beam target after getting a feel for their play style.

    Fun game to watch. Pretty close one. Mercy did well. Sadly, there's only so much you can do on a Mercy (and LW) though, especially solo queue. You basically just enable your DPS and tank to be able to do their things more. Here I just think red team's Rein was basically equal and their DPSs were better. Keep playing Mercy at that level and they'll climb. Will be a slow climb though. Weave in some equally good play from Ana/Kiri/Bap/Illari/Moria when the team is struggling to capitalize on the damage boosts and they'll climb faster.

    Heya! I’m a new player (started last summer) and one thing that has helped me a lot as a support player is to look up the characters best comps. For example, Mercy is great w characters like Ashe, Cassidy, Soldier, Soujorn etc. It depends on stuff like: You’re mobility, is the dps agro or passive?, Are they playing ok? Because as Mercy you should be wary of your position. Think; am I an easy target? From the enemy’s pov, is it easy to get me? Have they been targeting me? (Example: That Junkrat ult would have gotten this Mercy if it wasn’t for Soldier)
    Also, don’t feel bad if you weren’t getting enough heals or the like, we all start somewhere.

    Okay lets just address the elephant in the room: Mercy sucks to climb with, because your main approach to value is empowering your team mates (who are shit). That doesn't mean you also aren't shit, or not, that part is irrelevant. What matters is that you give up agency over how to influence fights, so unless you are exceptionally great at Mercy and understanding the game, you will have a hard time climbing and that's just what it is.
    That said, there also wasn't anything truly spectacular here to warrant a climb. The positives are: You seem to have decent awareness and mobility, but then again you're playing vs gold enemies who can't hit their shots so the bar aint that high. But hey, few deaths is great, but ideally you should have zero deaths unless it's a team wipe, so still a lot to work on here - not so much on mechanics, but more so on decisionmaking and how you decide your future positioning.
    Now to the actually important part: There were hardly any moments where you were the key difference maker, and THIS is a problem if you want to climb. It's hard to be that difference maker with Mercy, but it is nonetheless what you should be striving for. It doesn't take a lot to get near equal value as you're currently getting, even with lower skill.
    To be the difference maker you should look at 3 key aspects:
    1. Uptime. There should ideally be zero downtime where you are navigating the map, catching up to allies mid fight, etc. Your positioning therefore should in general be in accordance with the center of your team where you can contribute to near 100% efficiency. There were lots of times where you neglected your Rein as he was going in, to instead go on a journey with your Tracer that already off the bat wasted 5-10 seconds in the beginning of the team fight. This is a major no-no. So be more aware of when the team fights are being initiated, and plan your positioning accordingly.
    2. Focus on critical impact. This means you should damage boost players who either deal a shitton of damage, or players that have potential to burst down enemies quickly - and this choice depends largely on what the enemy is doing. Your general priority of ally to dmg boost is decent, but focus on the ones that have the most potential to deal critical damage - and likewise focus on healing those who are at critical hp, or about to receive damage that could put them into critical territory. Oftentimes you neglected your Rein as he was pushing for a frontline attack, and while he was at full hp at the time, a move like this is guaranteed to ensure he is taking a lot of focus and thus damage, so you should be attentive to him and not just neglect what he's doing to go flank with your dps and waste time. This is gold, so time to kill is very high and you didn't see the consequences of your actions most of the time, but if this was in Diamond then your tank would've been killed 10 times already where you neglected him as he pushed in.
    3. Go for incremental advantages rather than high risk plays. Ressing someone in an exposed position is a clutch play, and you don't climb by relying on clutch plays. Likewise use your ult when you have the best chance to gain high overall damage to swing a fight incrementally in your team's favor, as this on average is more likely to consistently win fights. Using valk to hunt for opportunities puts your faith in hopes and dreams, and if there is one thing that is extremely abundant in low ranks, it is hopes and dreams. When you see your team is fairly grouped up and your Rein is making a gesture to push in, pop valk and let him push with confidence. When your Genji is going for a blade, pop valk so you can fly in safely with him and damage boost his hits. When you see the enemy team make a generic push with no easy way to disengage, pop valk to flip the fight or force them to invest in even bigger resources. Be proactive, the ult builds fast and is reliable in output, as long as you apply it to reliable situations where marginal advantages are the goal, rather than clutching a fight or going for big power plays. Also great to stabilize fights where the enemy got an incremental advantage to begin with - but not so much if they have a major advantage.

    Really good for gold, you have a good understanding of when to blue beam versus when to yellow (which is good and sets you apart from other golds, your movment is also decent). But you don’t play cover enough. And you kept pocketing that genji which he was good but there is no reason to be on him when he’s so far pushed up. In Gold it’s easier to play your movment rather than positioning but high rank a lot of times you will die if your just flying in the air above everyone. You need to work on positioning a lot, I saw some points where you were in the front of the team with your genji and rein, and that can definitely work sometimes but I feel like pocketing the 76 was way better (unless he was horrible I haven’t watched him much). Pocketing the 76 was safer and he has a higher damage output so it would have helped a lot more. Genji also had the lifeweaver to heal him so he wouldn’t really have room to be like “why isn’t my mercy on me”. Heal him ofc but I would reccomend playing safer. It’s okay to play with the genji i just think the safer you are the better.

    • @bearisflop
      @bearisflop 8 месяцев назад

      Also your playing against junkrat and you keep trying to play inside rooms that won’t work play walls instead of rooms because junkrat always wins in a closed room. Also the general role is never ever pocket a tracer. Only dmg boost tracer when tracer is going in for the begging of fight IF SHE HAS SIGHTS AND ISNT HIDING. Usually tracer wants to be kinda secretive and pick off back line without ppl seeing her.

      @bearisflop 8 месяцев назад

    This is the problem I see in the low ranks, with Mercy and LW, these characters depend on someone on the team to make a difference, don't get me wrong, this mercy played a lot, it was incredible, but these heroes are highly dependent, they are Multipliers, they multiply the quality of the ally, but if the ally is 1, no matter how much it multiplies it will always be one.
    In this game, the enemy had better individuals, and yours were in the middle of your rank, they were not capable of making a difference and you do not have the tools or have few (Battle Mercy) to win the match, honestly I would have changed support, for a kiriko, lucio or Zen and would have taken the offensive.
    You can say that we have already seen mercy players making a difference, and honestly if she didn't use the pistol, she made a difference using someone else, what is valid is the character's proposal, but when you depend on someone and no one can overcome the enemy, defeat is certain, because you cannot make a difference on your own, as you do not have the tools to do so.

    Mercy is an easy character, but she is ungorfivable to bad positioning once you reach slightly above average players. I already see from first battle positioning that gold is where this person belongs for now. I see boosted people playing like this too, so used to get away with so many mistakes bc of how high mobility their hero is (or tanky, or cheesy etc.), and when actual good players start farming them - they suddenly realise... that it's not them, it's their teammates. Smh.
