It's honestly super comforting to know that Araki starts with an extremely detailed character sheet when creating any kind of character. It is so incredibly fulfilling to just build your character from the ground up like they were a protagonist in their own story. When you do use those characters later, no matter how minor, knowing how they will react to situations becomes so much easier. This is because their traits are tied to those background details like a web and thus it is like a cascade of cause and effect.
Araki: It is incredibly important not to simply draw on a whim, but to be conscious of the four major fundamental elements as you draw. Also Araki: Lists 5 things
After listening to Coco Jambo me and my friends came up with the idea that Araki made Coco Jumbo while he had a really bad mushroom trip so he was curled up on the ground as Coco Jambo played on loop in the background and the moment just stuck with him
How he makes a protagonist friend? 1. Make him Italian 2. Make him more badass then the protagonist. 3. Have him teach the protagonist how it done. Build their relationship to the point they love each other to death(Jojo love?) 4. Don't forget to give very well balanced technique and power level, along with great intellect. 5. Have him die to the main villain 6. Before 5, it is advised for main protagonist and side protagonist to have a very memorable moment before battling the main villain. 7. After boss is killed by main character, have them say some shit as a soul. 8. Congrats, you have made an amazing emotional chapter. 9. Many will hate for it tho.
3:59 - Good lord, this basically looks like a Pen & Paper Character Sheet from an RPG. All this time Araki has just been playing the most epic game of Dungeons & Dragons (*or insert preferred TTRP system here, e.g. Exalted or WoD) ever!
Atleast Josuke dont need any strength buff like same type of stand or Arrows to deal with Enemy... While also have to face Villain with Stand Arrow power up, 2 support stand... It will very stupid is he can win all fight alone.
Josuke successfully fought and beat Kira in a battle of wits, with some assistance from Hayato. He was already beat, Jotaro just dealt the finishing blow.

In japan blood types are treated like zodiac signs here in the west, like your personality can vary depending on your blood type, each blood type is believed to have unique characteristics. It can be useful to write a character
blood type myth is actually very important in Japan, that there was also a rumour that Japanese companies prefer A-type employee, and B-type employee is being recruited the less because of the blood type myth. There's a 4-panels manga about blood type personalities and it was adapted into an anime.
2:49 Part 2 is literally this The story is dumb let's be real who cares about red stones The settings are all over the place, no where is really important But oh god the characters in part 2 They're so GOOD that they drive all of it- Joseph especially
We have classics like Joseph, Stroheim, Speedwagon, Kars and more. Part 2 is the part with the most consistently great characters, only rivaled by part 7.
I often forget that they were fighting after red stones. I only remember that some of it takes place in America (not even sure how much of it) because that's where Joseph's from and it shows in his personality and the way he interacts with other characters.
Since I've been trying to channel Araki's style into my own writing, this was a really helpful video for me to dig into his creation process and make better characters.
Idk why the jojo fandom hates bnha but I’m a fan of both and I feel like a lot of this video can apply to bnha characters as well. Like horikoshi uses similar methods of coming up with characters and powers, I’m sure he’s a fan of araki. Edit: spelling
Euclase W I agree with you I read bnha and I find many characters really interesting and how their quirks are linked to their story and personality/ambitions. But I have to say characters interactions « in general » are just so boring to me compared to JoJo. It lacks the bizarre element and it’s just plain boring dialogue between schoolboys and girls most of the time.
Faick LOG seems like it’s more of a taste thing then. Because I love some of the little interactions characters have and how some minor supporting cast gets enough limelight that they are basically main characters. Jojos is entirely different and is its own category but I still love both. But I do gotta say the jojo fandom is infinitely times better than the bnha one. The fandom is my main problem with it.
@@euclasew I agree it's completely a taste thing, I don't find their interactions very appealing but they are necessary to make the characters feel real, I just prefer the interactions in JoJo which always take me by surprise by their weirdness ^^

I wish someone would do What if Avdol's flames detected Vanilla Ice? What if Caesar survived & became a Stardust Crusader? Someone did What if Hol Horse became a Stardust Crusader but I wasnt impressed. I thought of a timeline that combines the ideas. Caesar dies in Avdol's place while Avdol Iggy & Pol defeat Vanilla Ice together. Hol Horse dies in Kakyoins place, shoots the clocktower with the Emperor, & Kakyoin figures out what it means.
Awwww dude! I'm so happy he got to meet Eastwood and even have him do a JoJo pose for him. That has to be one of the highlights of his life and probably inspired him even further.
I just found this video, and I want to thank you for making it. I'm writing and pre-producing my own animated Part of JoJo, so this content is literally gold to me. And I'm also very happy to know that I was alrady following basically all of the guidelines Araki gave us ahahah, but I'll definitely buy his book and read it thoroughly!
DUDE, I didn't expect this video to be this good! Not to be rude, but from the title I expected it to be some Eyes of Heaven gameplay as background while you theorise or make guesses about the whole topic but this video is EXPERTLY edited, researched and narrated, this is beyond helpful for any aspiring writer out there, and I'm genuinely thankful for this video!
I've started writing short stories. Nothing fantastical or based in anywhere other than reality really, but this video is going to help me with any future writings. Thanks. I think I'll also pick up araki's book.
I actually bought this book as I found out about it, even before finding this video. Araki always was and will always be a huge influence for my art, my stories, the characters I create and even for me personally. He was the reason I continued writing and drawing after giving it up a few years prior, because of some negative feedback. I don't draw, write or create for others anymore, because it's just what I wanted to do. Anonymously posting a couple short stories under a fake account every time and getting positive feedback of impressed visitors, also getting critique by those, who are way superior in what they do, is fun every now and then, but I prefer keeping most of them for myself.
I seriously want to see some of Diavolo's sheet, since he's my favorite character in the series. More importantly, I want to find out what Araki wrote for a backstory or a personality for someone like him, makes me curious
me too, I love Kira so much. I had read till part 8 vol 15. And nobody else can take Kira's place. I like Doppio too. But main villain is Kira as much as I love Giorno as protagonist.
Kira was unsettling and a very disturbing villain. He was perfect! But it also felt like he was sort of forgotten about for the entire middle of part 4. I actually forgot about him for a few episodes even. They did the same for Dio kinda, but they gave him so much more screen time. The final battle was amazing with both of them too, but i feel like Kira didnt get enough build-up. Still an amazing villain and amazing fight though
Dio/DIO is flamboyantly evil. Not as in homosexual (although he is bi), but as in the actual definition that says "tending to attract attention because of their exuberance, confidence, and stylishness." That's literally how DIO operates in Parts 1 and 3. He's just so....arrogant and energetic that it's captivating to watch him. The Pillar Men are interesting, as each of them represents different aspects of Joseph. Cunning/trickery with Esidesi, honor with Wamu, and being willing to sacrifice anything and everything to win with Kars. The different aspects of his personality get analyzed more because of the Pillar Men. Kira may be the exact opposite of Josuke when it comes to power and abilities, but he wants the same thing. They both want to have peaceful lives. Kira just wants to be able to explode people and get the hands of women so he can get boners. Josuke can't have a peaceful life anymore because of family issues. Remember, Part 4 starts when Jotaro comes to Morioh to inform Josuke about the fact that he's going to inherit a good chunk of money since he is Joseph's Illegitimate son. Josuke WANTS to go back to his peaceful life, but he can't because of Stand users and Kira. In Part 5, Diavolo is very similar to DIO in that they both want power. However, unlike DIO, Diavolo wants to stay hidden away. DIO was theatrical with his evilness. He takes time to, in the middle of a fight, cut up a cat and then throw the pieces of the body into the food of nearby people. Diavolo is far more surgical in his attacks.
The thing keeping it away from perfection is that most humans just don't have enough brain attention to actually read or watch the anime or manga like you
all of a sudden I want to see show called "Cooking with Araki" where you just watch him cook and talk about his characters

Also Araki: Lists 5 things
why do you think he made mista
He forgot
💀😳😳
4 AS you draw. Drawing = Art
So the four plus Art, making 5
I honestly just thought Araki did some crack and listened to 80's music.

After listening to Coco Jambo me and my friends came up with the idea that Araki made Coco Jumbo while he had a really bad mushroom trip so he was curled up on the ground as Coco Jambo played on loop in the background and the moment just stuck with him
How he makes a protagonist friend?
1. Make him Italian
2. Make him more badass then the protagonist.
3. Have him teach the protagonist how it done. Build their relationship to the point they love each other to death(Jojo love?)
4. Don't forget to give very well balanced technique and power level, along with great intellect.
5. Have him die to the main villain
6. Before 5, it is advised for main protagonist and side protagonist to have a very memorable moment before battling the main villain.
7. After boss is killed by main character, have them say some shit as a soul.
8. Congrats, you have made an amazing emotional chapter.
9. Many will hate for it tho.

4:05 Ah yes, truly one of the most important aspects of a character- his blood type.
In japan blood types are treated like zodiac signs here in the west, like your personality can vary depending on your blood type, each blood type is believed to have unique characteristics. It can be useful to write a character
in asia we care a lot abt blood type, even checking compatibility with each other and stuff like that
blood type myth is actually very important in Japan, that there was also a rumour that Japanese companies prefer A-type employee, and B-type employee is being recruited the less because of the blood type myth. There's a 4-panels manga about blood type personalities and it was adapted into an anime.
Not to mention how useful it could be for a stand

MHA has some amazing characters.
Like the villians of each fight is very well written
Faick LOG seems like it’s more of a taste thing then. Because I love some of the little interactions characters have and how some minor supporting cast gets enough limelight that they are basically main characters. Jojos is entirely different and is its own category but I still love both.
But I do gotta say the jojo fandom is infinitely times better than the bnha one. The fandom is my main problem with it.

JJBA makes me have a sort of nostalgia feel because I love fighting anime. And I haven't watched one in forever so yeah it made me have feels man.
With what I've learned, I'm gonna draw my own manga I call Elijah's Treasure. Wish me luck! 😃
All the best!
Good luck!

Araki: I'm about to end this man's whole career
"Is your manga consistent?"
*Araki forgot*
I never would've thought Araki cares about consistency.
I'm sure he does care, but the problem is that he forgets what his own manga has structured WHILE writing it
I think Araki’s best characters are the villains, I loved Kira more than any other until Doppio, once again, a villain
Aiden Andre loves Kira?? ... *“CHEW”*
Wait until Funny Valentine
me too, I love Kira so much.
