- Previously a spectator, Todd Steinmetz attended as a participant at this year's LS Fest in his 1985 LS powered Chevette. Todd bought the car as a driver and decided to put an LS1 in it. Out of the box, it ran an 11:3 with a bone stock engine. Needless to say, that just made Todd want more power!

Imagine getting your ass kicked by a Chevette.
Just proves you don't need big money and sponsors to race hard. Got him a light car and a light engine that makes good power. Perfect for what he is trying to do. More people should do this instead of chopping up real nice expensive cars. Two Thumbs Up!!!
Agreed!!
I live my 79 Chevette. I can never let it go.
I remember in the early eighties my uncle showing me a Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine featuring a Chevette boasting 454 cubes of big block glory!
Are you talking about the one that run on alcohol that had hilborn sticking to the hood multicolored car
That car is a work of art!
It's very cool!
Thanks for the video Holley Performance.
For anyone confused why I said “I didn’t bring the car, I just drove it down and spectated”. I meant I didn’t race the car, Im not a great speaker and fumbled my words.
I was researching Opel Kadett C, and found out these cars where sold International under different badges. These Cars are very popular for Ralley and Hill Climb. That is a great Build you have sir. You should look into Old GM superchargers take offs for your LS. Sloppy mechanics build a junkyard 4.8 with a stock LS Blower and made over 500WHP in his Infinity G35 coupe.
I just bought one gona copy your build

Love the Chevette Man.
It's cool. Sensible combo. Fun.
My first car was a '83 Chevette scooter, two door, with a four speed. It was absolutely the most under powered car I have ever driven. I would have loved this as a teenager!
@C Jacobs so true.
My first was an 83 as well. Got into so much trouble in that little car.
@@sjeverett75 good times 👍
Love the jack handle hood prop. Lol.
Luv this! Shoved a stock 400 sbc from a 70's chevy wagon ($150) into a '81 Pontiac T1000 ($40 for car) (Pontiac's version of chevette), did this back in 1989 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, TH375 auto out of wagon as well, driveshaft was about MAX 3 ft long? used Chevette original rear end, was open, didn't get traction until somewhere in the middle of 2nd gear at best, weighed 2,345 w/o me in it, full interior. Used two spare rims on front. Loved that car! Would only cruise at 40mph due to whatever gears are in that chevette... Go Chevettes! :)
Reminds me of the Hot Rod article where a 500 c.i Cadillac engine- with 472 heads= 13 to 1 compression- was stuffed into a Chevette! So this is just a new twist on an old story! Biggest factory G.M engine in the smallest G.M. car.
Daniel Scott I'm currently building one with a 454
The Bad Seed.
That Caddy powered Chevette is my favorite build ever. Junkyard parts on a low budget.
Nice car.
I like this!!!
I fucking love it!!
Keep it up would love to reach there one day
Love a Chevette!!
Man, just found this on FB Hot Rod Misfits page kick abs channel!!
love it..
When a Chevette become a Corvette.
Love old cars
I remember driving this car and drifting lol
Anyone else notice he's still running the 4 bolt axels?
I’ve wanted to do this for a while. And daily it
Y que transmisión y diferencial usan
And people laughed at me for putting a 3.8 liter v6 in my 85 Chevette. Until I was keeping up with stock mustangs and camaros.....
I'm in Kentucky. This car could be the one I had when I was 16 back in 98. Originally a 1.6 with 4spd. Then sold it and my uncle put an automatic transmission in it. But there was a lot of turd brown 85 chevette round here lol. But it could be it. Working on a 82Gmc Sierra rt now. Videos of it on my channel
My God!! Whered he find whole chevette!!!??!??
Not hard if your not in the rust belt. I daily an 80 model
They are out there. I just went with Todd this past Monday to pick up another chevette
Hey I got four of them still WTF

They are everywhere. I have one also
Fk yeah I drive a vette! A Chev vette!
He brought it in 2017, why did he say he didn't?
I suck at speaking. I meant to say I didn’t race it.
So what's it weigh?
2140 no driver
Fucking Awsom
Can I LS swap my Corolla?
Wow , still 4 bolt wheels?
4x100 bolt pattern all 4 corners
@@859romulus22 awesome , scary I feel but seems to get down the track ok haha, great job with her, you should get "vette" put on it somewhere , can't claim corvette but chevette so wth lol
Haha, the rear is a built Ford 9” and it has .5” wheel studs. Should be plenty strong enough for my tiny tires.
Did you reuse the factory chevette suspension setup or do ladder bars?
Factory coils, spring buckets, pan hard bar. Custom torque arm, custom spherical heavy wall tubing lower control arms. Raised the control arm mounting points in the front.
Damn even on the stock 4 lug with extended studs 😱
MrRyan6616 or maybe a ford 8 inch with the mustang axles.
Ford 9”
Don't forget Spyder monza's also have 4 lugs
@@plymouth-hl20ton37. Did the Spyders come with 7.5 10 bolts? Should be strong enough since the car is light, and the torque arm could be used (with a crossmember).
@@plymouth-hl20ton37 I had a 2+2 Monza. Original motor died. Dropped in my balanced 350 truck motor. Very fast. Light and aerodynamic.
Wish Chevy had put in a 2.8L swap with the '82 Chevette. Would have been faster than the LU5 TBI Camaro and L83 TBI Vette!
You put a big motor in a little car and what out come to you expect? it's still a POS....imho.....jkn.
