    I’m 58 and do not use a moisturizer. I remember hearing Dr. Obagi’s theory back in the day and it has always stuck with me.

    Wow i just actually discovered this recently. I accidentally ran out of moisturizer and i have not been using moisturizer for weeks and i noticed my skin feels nice, not too oily or dry and less breakout. And now watching this for the first time totally makes a lot of sense. Thank you so much for your service dortor ❤️

    Thank you for such an informative video. What is a good hydrator/moisturizer? I have combination skin. I am currently on tretinoin. I have been using Skinbetter Science Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment. I love it but if there is something else that you will recommend, please let me know. Thanks in advanced

    Question. I’m an esthetician and really curious - would you recommend retinol usage with moisturizer or without?

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  Год назад +1

      depends. If I'm starting patents on higher doses of tretinoin, I do sometimes add moisturizers temporarily to help the skin cope. But I only have them use it as "a fire extinguisher" so when they really need it. Once they are accustomed to the tret, I remove the extra cream.

    I think I can get dehydrated skin. My understanding on what you are saying is to get medical grade moisturizer to use at times to keep my skin calm and hydrated. This current year, I added eating small portions of nuts, and when I can , I buy and eat salmon and cook with avocado oil. I’m in peri menopause and so far, it isn’t so bad with exception of weight gain. My doctor is adjusting my thyroid medication to see if this will help with weight loss. I hope my approach is correct on skin care.
    I’ve mentioned in the past that I use prescription tretinoin, at times, when I can afford it, ZO Skin Health growth factors, also glycolic acid. For the body, I use drugstore brands do retinol body cream and glycolic acid lotion for the body. On both face and body is Colorscience sunscreen.

    I really love Cosrx snail mucin and oil-free ultra moisturizing lotion with Birch sap, and also the pyunkang yul calming moisture barrier cream. None of these seem to have oils in them or at least if they do it is so light as to not be noticeable. I find they hydrate my skin very well, but wondering now if it's only a surface effect and is actually drying my skin out longterm.

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  Год назад +1

      Oils can be in formulations. Sometimes they are an adjunct or vehicle for an active ingredient but not a primary oil that will just sit on the surface. So it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are oil concentrates that will dysregulate the skin.

    Thank you- I would appreciate a list of good hydrators. I just recently purchased Alastin's Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer with TriHex Technology- should I return this? I have been listening to your channel and have made some changes in my skin care routine. I have used ZO for years, but based on your recommendations, I have branched out to SkinBetterScience and Alastin products.

    What about hydrating boosting cream from skin better? How do you feel about using that with a tretinoin? The second or so ingredient is jojoba oil. Is the formulation allow for it to be in the “Hydrator” category?

    Dear Dr. Ania, as you my recognize I follow you channel continuously. I love your advise. Today, however you lost me a bit. I am in my late 50s and my skin, especially during winters, is very dry. I use moisturizers - Cerave, La Rouche Possay, and even Alastin in my daily AM and PM routines; after Vit. C and peptides, for AM; in evenings after Tretinoin. Am I missing something in terms of making my skin work? and yes, sometimes I do use Jojoba oil with my moisturizer because my skin is that dry. Thank you

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  Год назад +1

      If you have truly dry skin, then oil can act as a barrier to stop water loss. If you have dehydrated skin, then the oil will cause more dryness and dysfunction in the long run. However when we are exposed to harsh elements for a short time, we can adjust our routines to help the skin cope with the stress.

    What would a product example of a non moisturizer “hydrator” be? The links provided in your description seem to contain products that are moisturizers said not to use? A little bit confusing. But I’m guesstimating you are talking about serums? Hmm. What about sunscreens? Most sunscreens contain moisturizing ingredients.

    Exception: post menopausal women skin don’t produce those lipids anymore. We need it.

      The products she uses has lipids in them but they also stimulate your skin to wake up by stimulating cell turnover and produce its own moisture instead of relying on the hydration in a moisturizer. She knows what she’s talking about, her skin is proof.

      Petroleum jelly is a mixture of mineral oils. As mentioned, oils do not do your skin any good, unless you do not have pores.
