Visited this area for 3 days in February. Wonderful time! Elephant sanctuaries, private boating trip, fine dining on waterfront, bicycles, and amazing breakfast at hotel daily.
This is how a travel vlog should be. After watching a ton of videos stumbled upon this which actually helps in planning my trip. Thanks and please keep making videos. :)
Thank you very much Erik! Your video is very organized, very informative, knowledgeable, structured and great mapping and good to know the comparable prices! I will check out all your videos!
Rarely leave any feedback, my now I have to. Great, and informative video. Were going as a group of 6 in a week, and this gave great ideas what to do. Thankyou and keep this same style up!
Hi Erik, I have travel Ao Nang Beach, together with the four island hopping on a long tail boat in December 2018. I was stayed in Ao Nang area. Your video is super entertaining from start till the end. Very details, with geography local mapping the locations you have visited. One of the most informative video I have ever seen with edited arrows, highlighted moving dotted line to the locations. Admiring your video editing skill, excellent travel guide. I am also a RUclipsr. But, my videos can never come close to your video editing skill. Please share more video. Enjoy your traveling the world. Looking forward for more videos, Subscribed.
I agree with a lot of comments here that this is the most organized Video regarding Krabi! You answered also one key thing if Grab is available in Krabi / Ao nang! Thank you soo much!
This is the best video i have seen so far. Did you ever visit the four island? I am debating staying in Ao nang or Krabi, definitely don't want the Phuket crowds.
Thanks! No I didn't have time to visit the 4 islands. I heard that the Hong Island tour was the best so I went for that one. Would recommend staying in Ao Nang rather than Krabi Town. And yes, Phuket is not what it used to be.
That was quite a nice video about the local Krabi area. There are special night time wildlife tours (night safari) in Krabi that is starting to become better known. I hope you do that one next time you visit! Do something outside the ordinary. ;)
THANK YOU!! I was going through dozens of Krabi Travel videos and I found an actually useful one, this! Please keep some click-baity title to make the RUclips algorithm to it's thing.

Thanks! Yes, have been to Ko Samui in July and the weather there is fine at that time. Might be some more showers in Ao Nang in June, but you will probably still have a great time.
Great video, what time of year were you there? Also, I'm not critizing but it seems that you have filmed in some profile and not colorgraded, looks very grey.
Thanks! I was there in November. Normally I do not color grade my videos, but the clips from my drone and my GoPro has been converted to HDR by using the HDR tool in FCPX, so maybe that's what you are noticing. All else should be native HDR from my iPhone.
Hi Erik, Thank you for the video - very informative. Could you please advise re Drone Pilot license, which one do you have and was it asked by any locals? Also question re Honk Island boat tour, if we stay at the Railay beach, would it be possible for us to get to this tour and back from it back to the hotel at Railay, could you please recommend?
Hi, In Thailand you need a permit from both the CAAT and the NBTC to fly a drone. You also need insurance. The insurance company FEIC can help you with everything for a price, but you can also do it on your own. Nobody actually asked me for the permit, but at the Island I asked myself, and then he looked at my permit. Yes you can stay at Railay. The tours pick up people from there.
Hi Erik, great video, please give me more information (in details) how to obtain permit for flying by drone in National Parks - when I look for maps I see that all Ao Nang area is a National Park and there are many prohibition sign „no drone”. I know how to get documents (CAAT and NBTC) but is it enough to use a drone on the islands in the area? I found info that in mid-2023 the low was changed and you can fly a drone in National Parks after obtaining permission - but how does it look in practice? I would be grateful for any information. Adam
Thanks 😊! I mostly used my iPhone 14 Pro, and sometimes a GoPro Hero 8 Black. The drone shots are from a DjI Mini 3 Pro. Everything shot in 4K. Basically, if you have a recent smartphone you don't really need any other photo equipment to make nice videos these days 😊.
Thanks! I would stay within walking distance from the beach road in Ao Nang. Always nice to be close to home after you have been out to dinner or a beer at night.
Great travel guide! Thank you so much for highlighting the distance and the ways to get to your destinations, it's so helpful! Your video about trip to Ayutthaya really helped us to make our trip there easier. I have a little question about the drone shooting on Hong island. Did you already have CAAT, NTBC and FEIC certificates by the moment of your visit and they still didn't let you to fly your drone? What kind of special permission for national parks did you mention?
Thanks! 😊 Yes, I already had my FEIC insurance and the CAAT/NTBC permits, but in order to fly in the national parks you need an additional permit. I didn't know about this beforehand so I am not quite sure how to get such a permit. On that one island my tour guide talked to the island keeper for me and he allowed it.
Thank you for your reply! I'll try to study this question beforehead. We were in the similar situation twice. In Angtong national park our tour guide told us that flying drone is prohibited but we still went to one of the island keepers and filled the application which we had to take to the park head office on another island. Thankfully, visiting that main island also was in an agenda of our tour. And right after signing the application we were allowed to fly in the whole national park. And in Sam Roi Yod national park we also filled the same form at the tickets office and were allowed to fly in specific zones and a specific time period.@@erikssc
Hi I really appreciate your detailed video it has been the best that i have seen so far in around 20 different person. Thank You very much for the detailed video!. I was wondering how can you know if in a particular area you can fly your drone (as in if its a national park vs not) is there a map? also what are the steps to be able to fly the drone in the national park?
Thanks, generally it is not allowed to fly in the national parks, even with a normal Thai permit. I am afraid I am not sure how to apply to fly in the parks. I just got permission from the keeper at that one island to fly there. I think all the islands there are national parks. Ask your hotel about where the other national parks are. God luck!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I noted the drone shots when you were at Dragon Crest. What are the Thai regulations regarding the use of camera drones?
As long as your drone has a camera you need a permit from both the CAAT and the NBTC. You can do most of it online, but the final permit from NBTC you get after sending a photo of your entry stamp into Thailand and after that, paying a small fee. It´s a bit of a hassle, but I did it. I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro.
Great video and great edition!! Congrats from Portugal!! Another question about long tail boats, i will stay in Ao Nang but i needed to know if it is possible to return later from Railey Beach, the boats run after midnight? Thank you for your help!!! Keep going for great job !
Hi, thanks! I did not try to return to Ao Nang after the period for fixed price expires (18:00), but I have heard that you need to bargain for a private long tail after 18:00 and it will be much more expensive. I think you just need to go down to the beach and ask around for anyone that are driving after midnight and make a deal with them there.
Very nice video, hope you will have many good travels in the future. Was it difficult to get a drone permission?, How long did it take and how much does it cost? Thanks in advance!
Hi, thanks! If your drone has a camera you need a permit from both the CAAT and NBTC. Most of it can be done online, but you need a few documents including several photos of the drone. They answer quite quickly. It only cost about 250 baht, but that must be paid in Thailand after arrival and after you have sent them your entry stamp. Its a bit of a hassel, but its doable. I am sure a lot of tourists fly without a permit, but you risk fines. Some good information here:drone-traveller.com/drone-laws-thailand/
This was very helpful! I’m currently in Phuket and going to Krabi tomorrow! Question about the long tail boats. When youre returning back to Ao Nang, do you get on the same long tail boat? Or do you pick another one? Thank you!
Hi Chris, glad it was helpful. About the long tail boats at Railay. When you go back to Ao Nang it is not the same boat. There are some people organising the boats on the beach in front of all the long tails. Just show your ticket to one of them and they will show you which boat is the next one. Maybe you have to wait a few minutes until there are enough people to fill up a boat, but normally not for long.
No, sorry. They did have a folder with tours that I browsed through, but I don't remember the other prices I am afraid. You can probably just give them a call and ask them.
Was there February just gone seems like you was there the same time..Koko hostel brings back memories lol Beach bar 1 on the beach 100bht cocktails that blow your mind...and obviously railay is amazing when you know where to go especially the hidden bars Good video very informative
Could you please tell when you visited this area? We are in thailand this march. I dont like crowded places. I am wondering how much people would be there in march
Hi, I bought the ticket at my hotel the day before the trip. I am not sure if it is possible to just show up, and it would also be very inconvenient as the marina is located outside the city centre. Its best to buy the ticket at your hotel or at one of the tour agents along the Main Street. Then you will be picked up at your hotel on the day of the trip. If you meant buying before you arrive in Ao Nang, no that's not necessary. Have a nice holiday! 😊
Thank you! The hotel prices vary depending on the time of year (high season vs low season). I normally use Hotels.com to book så I think its the best to check on-line on one of the major hotel booking sites for updated prices.
Finally someone that understands how to make a useful travel guide

Its best to buy the ticket at your hotel or at one of the tour agents along the Main Street. Then you will be picked up at your hotel on the day of the trip. If you meant buying before you arrive in Ao Nang, no that's not necessary. Have a nice holiday! 😊
Hi I really appreciate your detailed video !!!!!! but you do not tell the prices of hotell room how much is it cost per 1 day
Thank you! The hotel prices vary depending on the time of year (high season vs low season). I normally use Hotels.com to book så I think its the best to check on-line on one of the major hotel booking sites for updated prices.
