Thank you! I have not been able to work or post content in months due to an injury, but I hope to be able to resume making art and sharing art tips soon.
@@watercolorish Hope you're feeling better. You've provided some tips that I've never seen anywhere else, and your work is gorgeous. Going to try using tape over a foreground and then do a background wash. BTW, have you tried using washi tape versus drafting tape? I've never had any bleeding with washi tape on my borders. One other note: I've found that a dampened q-tip lifts colors very well and it's less abrasive to paper than a scrubber brush. You do have to use new, dampened q-tips as the color transfers onto the cotton, and the motion is sort of push-drag-lift. For some hard core lifting, I use an electric eraser with an ink (versus graphite) eraser inserted in the end. Thanks again, and I hope you post another video again soon.
@@smz5302 thank you! I’ve found some brands of drafting tape work better than others, and this can change over time. I will try out washi tape, thanks! I have used a q-tip to lift off color, but for some of my staining pigments it doesn’t do much. 🙂 Electric eraser is an interesting idea - something else to try, thank you!
@@watercolorish I've never used the electric eraser (with pen eraser tip) with the area masked with tape of any sort. Not sure if the eraser would take up the tape? I just use the edge of the eraser for a sharp line. When the edge wears down, I take a razor blade and slice a tiny bit from the top, and you'll have another sharp 90 degree edge. One other note: I'm using 5/8" washi tape. The super thin 5 mm washi doesn't have the grip.
@@watercolorish I do hope you recover soon. I am new to watercolor, though, I've been an artist all of my life. For the last 20+ years I have not did anything except for a few wreaths and crafts due to a hand injury that robbed me of my fine motor skills. I'm over 60, so I've a lot to learn. I did fancy calligraphy and oils. I am slowly learning to do watercolor. And I'm watching most everything I can to learn from the experts and from those with a lot of experience. Thanks for your posts. I don't do TikTok either, so I hope to see more of your work here in the future. Get well soon. ✌️
Watercolor realism, vivid translucent colors, smooth paper, technical tips, and humor… inspiring. Thank you. Hope your drawing hand is back to normal soon. ☀️
Beautiful! Lol, I am a beginner beginner working to upgrade my skills to beginner 🙂. I am housebound. I’m still figuring out the jargon and how color works. I so enjoyed watching you work and your commentary was so helpful. Video was good length. I got to see how the tools were used. Much appreciated!. Thank you.

I look forward to more. Again, I appreciate your sharing. Your paintings are wonderful!!
You are right. You would not be able to use masking tape or painter's tape on the painted surface. You have demonstrated well the superiority of drafting tape in watercolour painting. Any watercolour teachers I've had used masking tape not only for masking but for stretching soaked paper! I'm surprised they didn't know any better. Thanks for sharing your tips. drafting tape for t
Thanks Cynthia, so you so right! I have found that ordinary masking tape and white artist tape are both too sticky and will damage watercolor paper. But I also want to warn that not all drafting tapes are the same... Be sure to test any new roll on a scrap piece of your watercolor paper before trusting it on a painting. And lately, I've been applying liquid frisket over the joints where pieces of drafting tape overlap to prevent leakage when the area will be super wet to prevent leakage at the overlaps.
Thank you! I clean small areas of the palette with a damp paper towel when I need more space, but I almost never clean it completely, since all the dried paint on it is reusable and I use the same colors for every painting. 🙂
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I too use a magnifier but have it clamped to my drafting table on a gooseneck so I don't feel like my hands are tied. Wouldn't the front legs have a shadow? I'm thinking that would even out the wing shadow.
I don’t use Tik Tok ☹️ would love to see more on RUclips! This was beautiful and very instructive. Thanks

Gorgeous! Your attention to detail is amazing! I loved the longer, more detailed video. Thank you for sharing this with us. ❤️
Thank you! 🙂
Very cool. Gives me inspiration to keep my palette small. Hope you do RUclips tutorials. 🙏 thanks
I like the longer format but enjoy the more frequent shorts, thanks.
Hi Paul. I've found that Pebeo mask fluid will lift staining pigments to some degree, and it's not as harsh as scrubbing
Very interesting, thanks... I will check that out!
Beautiful...just subscribed , learning watercolor is so much easier when you have a sense of humor
So thanks!
Lovely. Great tips. Thank you so much.

Can I ask how you prevent the masking tape from tearing the top layer from your paper?
I see you are using an enamel pan for your paints. Do you clean it when you have a painting complete or do you just continue using it? Love your work.

Yes, for sure! Thanks for pointing that out! There's always something I've overlooked.
You're amazing. I love your work.
Thank you @@bobbiegraham7729 , you are very kind!
You have had some trouble with drafting tape causing seepage underneath the tape. have you ever tried washi tape for masking?
Not to date, but I’ll try some, thanks. No tape is perfect, and I think some minor leakage is preferable to damaging the paper 🙂
