From my experience this is the most common remote starter issue, luckily it is an easy fix, and you can do it yourself.

Hello..I replaced the battery in my truck and now my remote starter won’t work. The doors will lock and unlock,but will not start the vehicle..I tried your method but it still doesn’t work unless I place the key in the ignition (without turning)..Is there anything else I can try?

That's the problem I'm having but my check engine light came on and it won't work. This happen after I got an oil change and I think they put the wrong oil in my car
That’s not true I had a O2 sensor and a gas cap code on my CRV and remote start was working fine
Not on all vehicles I had a Sebring Chrysler with the check engine light on for years !! Start with the remote start every time...
I think that applies more so with factory installed systems. My daughter la equinox would not remote start when she had a check engine light. But I don’t think aftermarket systems apply that same logic.

I can’t thank you enough for this video. My Jeep must’ve been in valet mode this whole time. I hit the two buttons like you said and then pushed the remote start button and it started right up. I took it in to have the thermostat replaced shortly after I purchased it and ever since then the remote start hasn’t worked. The mechanic must’ve put it in valet mode to work on it and forgot to reset it. I didn’t even know valet mode was a thing. Thank so much! 🙏👍

HOLY COW, it worked! THANK YOU SO MUCH, have been trying to do something about this for several months as I knew the cold was coming....they wanted over $200 locally to "fix" it. I have a Code-Alarm CATX4, the guy at the Batteries Plus store told me I could buy a new one and reprogram. I went ahead and bought a new fob, but thought I'd try this first and it worked. I had to do it a couple of times, but realize my battery is pretty low now. I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Great video, cycling the key 5 times for a santa fe did the job of taking it off valet mode. 2nd time that this video has saved me. Now I have a command start again.

Awesome worked on my new to me 2016 Ford Edge which the dealer didn't know either. I also checked the manual and ford website. BTW I held in the remote start button then the truck release, this enables and disables. Im curious this isn't more broadly known, cant thank you enough for sharing. Wolf

7 years later and you're still helping people with your video! I changed my battery recently and my aftermarket 3x auto start system went into valet mode. I tried a bunch of stuff (that didnt' work), found your video, did the "5x turn key to start and hit your lock button..." and it worked flawlessly. Thank you!

You’re a life saver bud!! Somehow my 2011 Rav4 went into valet mode (probably my kids)... i tried the trunk n lock button but didn’t work.. tried lock+unlock and it worked! I have a little thing behind my rear view mirror that talks to the remote.. it had a solid blue light since the car stopped started (remotely).. as soon as I pressed lock+unlock, the blue light went away n all was well!

Thank you. Pressing the Lock & Trunk button at the same time fixed it. It was one of the 2 things you said would stop it from starting. It's my moth-in-laws car and she didn't use the R S all Summer plus she has lots of keys on her chain so who knows which one caused it. Thanks again, your the Boss.

I did the trick of putting the key in onto on and off 5 times and it worked - and I only use the drone mobile app, don’t have a fob- and it worked. Thanks so much!

Some of these newer compustar remotes after you turn the key on and off 5 times you have to tap the lock button once very quickly. This worked for me when I got nothing. Excellent video

I heard that going from off to on 5x in a Dodge Ram will clear the CEL. Shortly afterwards, I was baffled why my truck wasn’t remote starting anymore. After watching this, I immediately knew what the problem was, thanks for the help!

It worked for me. Got into valet mode some how. Went to the dealership where I bought the truck and they made me an appointment three days out. WHY didn't they ask me if it was in valet mode ??????? because MONEY. Thank you very much

A check engine light can disable a remote starter as well, so if the check engine light comes back, and remote start stops working that could be the cause as well.

oh man, tyat exactly describes my problem! took the car to get worked on and remote start wouldn't work anymore, but I knew the combo unit was still present because the lock and alarm still worked. looking forward to handling this tomorrow! :-D
Thank you! this fixed my problem. i was getting frustrated the other day i had accidentally left the vehicle in reverse and was trying to start it and i turned it on and off like 10 times before i realized it wasn't in park haha ! It happens! so i put it in valet mode on accident without even knowing it!

Thank you so much My starter remote was broken I needed to solder on a new switch for one of the buttons but then after that it was just locking and unlocking this brought it back to life!
