Project Racing Green is my 1989 Rover Mini Racing Green that has had an official John Cooper conversion fitted by John Cooper Garages. The standard 998cc engine is boosted from 41BHP to 60BHP thanks to the engine upgrades. The upgrades include a polished and ported Cylinder head with enlarged valves, LCB exhaust system, Roller tip rockers, and Twin HS2 SU Carburetors. The interior enhancements include walnut door cappings, walnut dashboard, alloy door furniture, and luxurious John Cooper emblem full leather GTS recliner seats.

Welding upside down . . . bwoohh.
I hang my car in a frame made from 4 cheap building stamps and two 60mm square tubes across them welded 4 brackets on where you put 2 lorry cargo straps thru.
The straps go around the Mini , jack them up and voila . . . I can turn around the whole body in a heartbeat.
No more lying on my back and getting weld spatter up my sleeve. 😎

The Racing Green is coming along nicely. Keith I’m sure with the experience you have working on the Mini’s you’ll soon have the front end on. Great series and always a great watch. Looking forward to Mark’s next update on his project too.
I need to replace the oversills on my mini... This makes me a bit more confident in trying it myself!

Great videos mate, sorry i'm just catching up with your videos. Life does get in the way and work for me over the last few months has had to take precedence over everything else so i've not touched the Cooper S since January. The minis aren't going anywhere so no worries about not being on them as much. 😎

I'm so pleased that you cut off the end of the sill near the rear. When I welded my outter sill last month, I didn't know what to do with that piece (impossible to insert it back where it would go originally) and did the same thing.
I'm surprised you did not prep the blanking plate before welding them on the two holes. Isn't that a point of possible rust in the future? Or dod you prepped them before out of camera?

Yes, I had sprayed them with weld through primer off camera

I run it as low as possible to save gas, typically 2-3 liters per minute. That gives about 1hr continuous. If welding outside, you probably need to double that

What panels do your prefer, herritage or M-Machine? Floors especially?
M-Machine are pretty good for the floors

No, they are just there for moving the car along the production line at assembly. They don't add any structural strength, although you could argue they maybe add a tiny bit, but nothing that would make any difference

My only advice is do your own pace not that of you tube viewers? else you will not enjoy it so much.
Do you think a plug weld or spot weld is stronger?
I would say plug is stronger if its a good weld as plugs tend to be a 6-8mm wide weld whereas a spot weld is only around 3mm.
