Employ combat trained veterans. The vets get a good life of luxury on a cruise ship. The ship gets highly trained security personnel. And I guarantee no veteran will have a problem turning pirates into swiss cheese. Eventually the pirates will either choose another profession, or their country will run out of people. Their choice.

Merchant ships, typically, are not allowed to carry weapons. In part due to various laws at the respective ports of entry. Most countries don't want firearms entering or leaving. There's liability concerns for the insurers. And merchant ships carrying weapons may be considered a warship. It sounds silly, but maritime laws are applicable.

5:45 mark, cruise ships have higher speed and range than pirates. THAT'S the most ridiculous thing I've heard! Cruise ships typically can only go about 20 knots, and top out at 25-30 knots. Pirates small craft can go MUCH faster! Best defense is for a cruise ship to stay farther away from coastal areas since pirates have a limited range.

What they lack in speed they more than make up for in sheer size compared to a small boat. However, if the seas are anything but calm, a small boat like pirates use would have a difficult time keeping up with a cruise ship movie full speed. Based off the videos I've seen of pilots getting on ships the slow down for that process, I can only imagine trying to board one moving full speed.

Now here's the most beautiful love story: Me and you? Though we have fallen short of the glory of God by comitting just one sin which we deserve death and hell for, the Good News is that God loved us soo much that He, All-Powerful and All-Knowing Spirit came to earth in a human body as Jesus Christ, the fullness of God bodily, to live a perfect life keeping and fulfilling all laws and commandments, not sinning ONCE, and then sacrificing Himself on a cross for YOU! By shedding His Blood, He paid the penalty for your sin so that you could be washed clean from all sins and develop a personal relationship with God and spend eternity together with Him in Heaven. How awesome is that?! That's God's grace. All you have to do to accept His gift of grace is turn away from your sin and believe that Jesus is God, He shed His precious Blood for you and He is risen from the dead, He's in full control of your life that He rules over you. It's not by works or being a good person, it's only by God's grace through faith in Him. Jesus desires a personal relationship with you. Wow that is so incredible! We heard later on there had been an incident one night at 2:00AM & the captain had been alerted to go up on the bridge. Thankfully, the passengers were oblivious to the excitement!

With all due respect,, when did the US military start worrying about "the cost" of firing their weaponry? They may be concerned over losing an F-22 but a quick spray from a Phalanx,, nah,, not so much. I agree with your thoughts very much though,, any trained military with light weaponry should be more than enough to repel a small group of pirates attempting to scale a moving wall in foaming seas..

There are many nations who have warships patrolling that area to protect shipping. However, it's a large area and a warship may not be close enough to help. I watched a documentary about this a while back. Some civilian ships have the water canons and one in the documentary actually had the cannons but they shot out boiling steam at high pressure which was certainly a deterrant. The problem with the warships is that if they catch the pirates, they let them go. If they were to prosecute them, the pirates have to go to Nigeria to be tried. The nigerians don't want the pirates because it's clogging up their legal system, there are so many. One warship even let them go, and supplied them with water and food to get them back to shore. I mean, where is the sense in that? Let them go and if they starve, or die of dehydration, then so be it. These pirates make millions of dollars a year from doing this. As for the cruise ships being able to outrun a pirate boat? That's ridiculous. Cruise ships are slow and cumbersome. How on earth could they outrun a speedboat travelling at 40 miles an hour across the water?

I've often wondered why merchant vessels are reluctant to use "lethal force" when combating pirates who use "lethal force" against them? This may be the sole reason why pirates keep coming back. They know the worst they are going to get frightened away.
I don't feel too bad for the shipping companies either. With this kind of policy - it seems to me they're getting what they ask for.

Presumably to get away from windows should there be any gunfire. We were never told and we never saw any security guards on board the ship. Please turn to Him, He loves you so much and so do I!!

Nobody talks about why these pirates even exist in the first place. The "good" West, with its massive ships, went off the coast of these "pirates" (who are actually fishermen) and decimated the fish stocks to a minimum, even though it was illegal. Since nobody listened to them, they took matters into their own hands. Today, people look at these pirates and think, "How barbaric can one be?" But the real question is: What would you do if someone took away your livelihood?
