As a defensive Ice type, it could gain some usage if they let it learn Aurora Veil. It would also be nice if gamefreak could also swap 10-20 base stat points from its Attack to its Special Attack or speed
Frankly, I'd love to see them go all the way and move 30 points from its attack to its Sp. Atk, restoring the 125/125 special it had in Gen 1. Additionally, Snow Cloak being its hidden ability is a waste given that evasion boosting is pretty much universally banned in singles at this point. With the changes in Gen 9, Articuno would be setting itself up with effectively 150/125 defenses which might just bulky enough to justify its bad typing if paired with the aforementioned Sp. I was messing around with adv ou last week as someone who has never played it before and ended up with a superman team. After a few iterations articuno ended up becoming one of my more important members due to being able to switch in to moves like ice beam and support the team with utility.
Man I love the Articuno sprite in gen 2. I mostly play Crystal on 3ds virtual console instead of my physical carts these days and it makes me sad I can't ever get the legendary birds on there. Apparently they were cut from gen 2 pretty late due to time or game size issues :(
In terms of buffs for Articuno, I would give Articuno Sheer Force. I would also give ALL THREE birds Earth Power and Focus Blast, which I actually think complements Articuno's typing the most. Ice Beam, Hurricane/Air Slash, Earth Power, and Focus Blast hit FOURTEEN types for super-effective damage (only sparing Water, Fairy, Psychic, and Ghost). I’m “chilled” you didn’t mention that Articuno can help you defeat iron mugulis by luring him to XY, where Articuno can trap this tyrant in an inverse battle 😔
I’m gonna come out of left field completely and say that my favorite legendary bird is articuno *galar*, specifically because I have fond memories of using it on a trick room team on the gen 8 vgc ladders with iron ball to halve its speed and give it immunity to priority in psychic terrain which something absolutely fucking NO ONE sees coming and ended up baiting countless fake outs which gave it a free turn to set up trick room and launch nuclear expanding forces until it and indeede died to allow the slow attackers in the back the ability to switch in and clean up
You don’t need to pronounce the “t” in Poltchageist. It’s clearly based around matcha. In Japanese it’s just said “maccha” and the double “c” denotes a slight pause when saying it. It’s just that “chi” is part of the “ta chi tsu te to” part of the alphabet, so, if you type on some computers it’s “ti” and well it’s part of that anyways, so it’s possible some romaji thing caused the t to become part of how we spell it in English. I don’t know the history of matcha entirely.
To fix Articuno you'd need to change a good bit about it... Give it Magic Guard, access to Quiver dance, and add the Frostbite status from PLA... then just grant it a Frostbite version of Scald, or an Ice attack that summons Snow on use
I was thinking Sheer Force, but Magic Guard might be better for Articuno specifically. What do you think of adding Earth Power and Focus Blast for coverage? Quiver Dance is interesting. I think that Magic Guard would be completely OP with Quiver Dance. Because w/ Sheer Force, Articuno at least still fears Knock Off and other residual damage.
@@haydeniskander5306 Idk about Focus Blast, but Aura sphere might be a good replacement In addition you can give it Mountain Gale, Drill Peck, and Drill Run for physical coverage
I think if discussing Articuno, you have to mention just how broken Blizzard was in japanese Red and Green, with an absolutely nuts 110 power + 90% accuracy + 30% freeze. Surely that, at least, would have been enough for it to do well.
NU is basically upgraded PU at this point, and probably means Articuno is both a great Tera user and everybody is gutted. Articuno sucks, it’s just that many other Pokémon had higher heights to fall from. This also means nothing because at the end of the day Articuno is always ZU and Kanto levels were low enough that it seemed good.
That Iron Mugulis!!!! Dale Gribble w/ Pocket Sand might even have trouble dealing with Iron Mugulis. Because Farmer w/ Shotgun clearly doesn't stand a chance.
Shoutouts to the original Japanese Red/Green games where Blizzard had a *30%* freeze chance on top of being 90% accurate. There wasn’t just a good chance to be frozen from repeated blizzard spam, it was statistically likely.
Unjust death of Great Tusk Kidnapping of Pawmot Corrupting Flamigo Delaying Pokemon Home And now taking a new identity to avoid the authorities? The list of Iron Mugulis' crimes grow by the day
With those stats theres no way Iron Mugulis is RU. They must be exploiting the system so they can dominate the lower tiers with their absurd power. Yet another reason to fear this very dangerous Pokemon
Ngl it would be nice to see videos reviewing the other 2 elemental trios of generation 1 The Eeveelution Trio (Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon) and the "Weirdo" Trio (Jynx, Electabuzz/Electivire, and Magmar/Magmortar).
I remember trying to make a hack of X&Y where among other things I swapped the stats of Zapdos and Articuno to differenciate Zapdos from Thunderus-T and be better at its defensive roles and to make Articuno a better Pokémon overal with stats to fit its typing better, though it would need more than only good stats as Articuno's abilities and moveset aren't the best. Never finished it however.
Maybe this is too niche to have a video dedicated to it, but I'm curious why Pinsir falls short of OU in ADV singles. It can take on Celebi, Claydol, and Jirachi without needing to worry about a Psychic weakness unlike Heracross, who is weak to Psychic, but seen as much more viable.
One correction, so many competitive youtubers incorrectly call pokemon worst when they mean least viable. Call them weakest or if you need to use that word, say worst performing. This way it makes it sound like a bad pokemon, which it isn't. It just isn't viable in competitive singles
@@yungmuney5903 Gen 1 nuzlocke. But you're missing the point. It doesn't have to be viable anywhere to be a great pokemon. Team Mystic was so huge when pokemon Go launched only because Articuno is arguably more iconic than the other two

Poltchageist is easy to say wtf. Also it killed 12 children in the trailer
It's deserved they weren't sub to Jimothy Cool
Poltchageist is a play on words, since "cha" or some derivative is the word for tea in most Asian languages
4:53 ah yes, the famous articudos fusion.
@@haydeniskander5306 Idk about Focus Blast, but Aura sphere might be a good replacement
In addition you can give it Mountain Gale, Drill Peck, and Drill Run for physical coverage
I think if discussing Articuno, you have to mention just how broken Blizzard was in japanese Red and Green, with an absolutely nuts 110 power + 90% accuracy + 30% freeze. Surely that, at least, would have been enough for it to do well.
1:53 when can a single-hundred cent individual name something very intelligent? 🤨 (the 🍺 continues)
"Alright what's your type?"
"Ice Flying."
"Lmao, have fun getting out of PU, buddy."
Mon is top tier NU ;)
it's already out of PU
NU ain't much better than PU@@Auristmusic
NU is basically upgraded PU at this point, and probably means Articuno is both a great Tera user and everybody is gutted. Articuno sucks, it’s just that many other Pokémon had higher heights to fall from.
This also means nothing because at the end of the day Articuno is always ZU and Kanto levels were low enough that it seemed good.
I don't why but every time you bring up iron mugulus I'm dying
Another addition to the base stat thing these mons have going on in these videos, Poltchagheist's are Shadow Rider Calyrex
I remember in gen 7 before the arena trap there was a stall going around with the 3gen 1 birds
That Iron Mugulis!!!! Dale Gribble w/ Pocket Sand might even have trouble dealing with Iron Mugulis. Because Farmer w/ Shotgun clearly doesn't stand a chance.
cool video
cool channel
hope you grow very big
Shoutouts to the original Japanese Red/Green games where Blizzard had a *30%* freeze chance on top of being 90% accurate.
There wasn’t just a good chance to be frozen from repeated blizzard spam, it was statistically likely.
Articuno has always been my fave. It would be cool if you made a vid about Entei next :)
Well nowadays, people have seen success using Articuno with snow, Aurora Veil, Snow Cloak, and Brightpowder. Becomes really hard to remove.
Poor articuno lost out on it's mine reader, sheer cold combo
Unjust death of Great Tusk
Kidnapping of Pawmot
Corrupting Flamigo
Delaying Pokemon Home
And now taking a new identity to avoid the authorities?
The list of Iron Mugulis' crimes grow by the day
3:07 Well, a Fire-type attack that can burn. Fire Spin can't burn, so it can't thaw out the opponent.
With those stats theres no way Iron Mugulis is RU. They must be exploiting the system so they can dominate the lower tiers with their absurd power. Yet another reason to fear this very dangerous Pokemon
The power creep in future Pokemon games would make your head spin.
Articuno is actually decent this gen in vgc where cloak and powder arent banned
Can someone explain how at 4:02 Blizzard was super effective on Charizard?
in gen 1 fire did not resist ice
Fire did not resist Ice in gen 1, thus it hit the Flying type Zard super effectively. This was changed in gen 2 onwards.
In Generation 1, Fire did not resist Ice. Fire was hit for natural damage by Ice attacks.
Fake Gameplay is one of the most under rated gen 1 players imo. Cool to see you feature them in the vid
Just used Cuno in my last Mushi league set. It put in work!!!
4:48 you called articuno by the electric bird name
Articuno is my favorite of the trio and I have fond memories of using the rental articuno a lot on Stadium 1.
Video idea: Pokémon that were not viable in their debut generation, but rose to viability afterwards
I learn more and more every day about how bugged RBY was and it's hilarious
Mugulis has more fans than some actual Pokémon 💀
I knew Poltchageist couldn't be a real pokemon, Iron Mugulis needs to be stopped.
Articuno has my favorite design of the legendary birds, I hope it gets some serious buffs in the future.
One correction, so many competitive youtubers incorrectly call pokemon worst when they mean least viable. Call them weakest or if you need to use that word, say worst performing. This way it makes it sound like a bad pokemon, which it isn't. It just isn't viable in competitive singles
Where is it viable?
@@yungmuney5903 Gen 1 nuzlocke. But you're missing the point. It doesn't have to be viable anywhere to be a great pokemon. Team Mystic was so huge when pokemon Go launched only because Articuno is arguably more iconic than the other two
JimothyCool talking about the bird that is his namesake, cool
my friend lives in America he said he saw Articuno working at his local dairy queen. let's hope he gets a raise soon
Articuno with Mind reader and Sheer Cold.
Articuno used to be my favorite, probably because it's blue tbh, but now that I'm not a 5th grade Pokemon go player (I did play mainline games prior with White 1 as my true origin, but still), Zapdos because of how good it is in battle facilities
I remember using articuno against the master class in Battle Revolution because it can learn miracle eye and sheer cold.
