  • The new MINI Cooper is bigger than its predecessor, it is packed with new technologies derived from BMW, including a detuned 3-cylinder engine, which also powers BMW i8. Despite advertised go kart like handling, MINI is also a very grown up car.

    Subscribed. Your review exactly matches how I felt driving the mini cooper which I rented. It was so fun to drive that I'm seriously considering buying it. I can only imagine how much more fun Cooper S would be. I have driven many cars ranging from Audi, BMW, Renault, VW but this is something else. It just loves to be driven.
    Is there any other car in Sedan class that's as fun to drive as this little beast?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 лет назад

      +bonmec101 try A3 sedan.

    • @bonmec101
      @bonmec101 7 лет назад

      I've driven my friend's A3. It was ok. It was an automatic and I don't like automatics that's why I couldn't find it much exciting/involving to drive and the "Sport" mode it had, weighed up steering and suspension artificially which wasn't to my liking! I will try to get my hands on a manual though.
      Do you have any other suggestions?

    • @bonmec101
      @bonmec101 7 лет назад

      I have driven also a 3er as I have been a great fan of it. The gearshift quality sucks though. Takes away all the fun otherwise a great car to drive.
      I have to get my hands on a Jaguar XE manual also. Can you do a review of it if you can find one?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 лет назад

      A3 sedan is the closest in terms of size to the MINI. XE, 3-Series etc. are much bigger cars.

    Have you tested the cooper d? Which one do you consider better in terms of performance and fun to drive character?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад +2

      I was only a passenger in the Cooper D. I spoke to the driver, who was thrilled with how it handled, so I suppose the driving pleasure is comparable to the regular Cooper. It even sounded OK. Both engines are new, so it's hard to say how reliable they are going to be. I guess it's down to the price and/or taxes in different markets. In Poland the diesel is some 4k euros more expensive than the respective petrol MINI, and there are no tax incentives to offset that.

    wayyyy late but excellent review Marek. I have an automatic 15 in Milwaukee and while I would of preferred a manual, I chose this over a bare bones version used. This one had sport seats and the oolala nav and other bits like led head and tail lights. Shifting the steptronic isn't the same but still a bit of fun. Next time I'll see about that manual...Cheers

    I test drove this 3 cylinder thinking it was going to have the same shitty acceleration that the old Geo Metro's used to have. Not even close. For a 3 cylinder engine, this car drives amazing. 99% of the time I am not driving at 6,000 RPM's. I would think the 1.5L would be fine for most people instead of the 2.0L if you want to save a little money. I could sense a small amount of vibration in the steering wheel from it being a 3 cylinder. The 4 cylinder is a little more smooth, but it's not that big of a deal. With the upcoming increase of federal taxes on gas, I am thinking about moving to the new 1.5L to squeeze all the MPG I can get. In sport mode this car drives fantastic. I used to have a 140 HP Saturn Ion and this car has less horsepower and is WAY more fun to drive. A well optioned out base with all of the technology toys, NAV, backup camera, dynamic shocks and all of the cool add-on's raise the price between $32,000 and $36,000 on this thing easily. But by adding all of the goodies, then you won't be driving a "buyer's remorse" car. When you buy a car without options, the entire time you're making payments on the car, you'll be wishing you got those extra things. If making a $600-700/mo. car payment is okay with you, you'll be happy with a loaded MINI.

    Did you drive a MINI before? I drove the Cooper with 3 Cylinder...it was a disappointment. There no MINI driving feeling. Only is sport mode you will get a little MINI feeling but without any sound inside. The suspension is too comfortable. I think you need the electronically suspension control to set it into Sport Mode too. Otherwise you drive a BMW or VW Golf, which is really boring. I think there were involved too much BMW engineers to design a more "common" MINI, really harm.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад

      Did you drive MINI One or MINI Cooper? This is the Cooper version.

    • @DrDuu
      @DrDuu 10 лет назад

      Marek Drives I drove the Cooper with 136HP...since 5 years I drive the R56 Cooper with 120HP...I was curious of the new engine...but the difference is not too much, I didn't get a "Wau" effect or feeling...and in my opinion the driving feeling is much worser than before. But this car had not installed the adjustable suspension.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад

      DrDuu Sometimes it's a matter of expectations. I admit I was concerned the 3-cylinder engine in the Cooper will be a steaming pile of horse manure, but I was pleasantly surprised. On the other hand I found the new C-Class Merc underwhelming.

      Well it doesn't have the fancy touch sensitive button on the handle like the BMWs. But there is a physical button on the handle that unlocks the car (when pressed) if your key is in your pocket.

    I want BMW to do a proper remake of the classic mini. Probably won't happen since it isn't demanded, but i'd love to see a more squared classic look, smaller too with simple features. Basically a classic mini that's safe and doesn't rust haha
