- The new MINI Cooper is bigger than its predecessor, it is packed with new technologies derived from BMW, including a detuned 3-cylinder engine, which also powers BMW i8. Despite advertised go kart like handling, MINI is also a very grown up car.

I've watched practically every Gen 3 Cooper review on the internet and yours is by far the most informative. Very slick - keep doing what you're doing
Wow, thanks!
Love the mini! I'm learning to drive in one currently.
Pretty soon we'll be calling the Mini, Maxi!
You are very good Marek. Î really like your tests
You should be on Top Gear. Great review.
Just stumbled upon this review - you got my subscription!
Subscribed. Your review exactly matches how I felt driving the mini cooper which I rented. It was so fun to drive that I'm seriously considering buying it. I can only imagine how much more fun Cooper S would be. I have driven many cars ranging from Audi, BMW, Renault, VW but this is something else. It just loves to be driven.
Is there any other car in Sedan class that's as fun to drive as this little beast?
+bonmec101 try A3 sedan.
I've driven my friend's A3. It was ok. It was an automatic and I don't like automatics that's why I couldn't find it much exciting/involving to drive and the "Sport" mode it had, weighed up steering and suspension artificially which wasn't to my liking! I will try to get my hands on a manual though.
Do you have any other suggestions?
I have driven also a 3er as I have been a great fan of it. The gearshift quality sucks though. Takes away all the fun otherwise a great car to drive.
I have to get my hands on a Jaguar XE manual also. Can you do a review of it if you can find one?
A3 sedan is the closest in terms of size to the MINI. XE, 3-Series etc. are much bigger cars.
Great one again !
Good review i think. Especially about the whole key and phone thing :-p normally reviews don't really bother about that aspect
Pure, brilliant car to drive.
Have you tested the cooper d? Which one do you consider better in terms of performance and fun to drive character?
I was only a passenger in the Cooper D. I spoke to the driver, who was thrilled with how it handled, so I suppose the driving pleasure is comparable to the regular Cooper. It even sounded OK. Both engines are new, so it's hard to say how reliable they are going to be. I guess it's down to the price and/or taxes in different markets. In Poland the diesel is some 4k euros more expensive than the respective petrol MINI, and there are no tax incentives to offset that.
Excellent review. I enjoyed that!
I'm seriously considering getting an automatic mini as my second car once I've passed my test! Good decision?
+Snizboj Sounds like a plan.
Snizboj did you got it?
As a Polish people, your English is very good.
Just because our PM doesn't speak any foreign languages doesn't mean other Poles don't ;)
Hey man, really appreciated your review! Maybe you could go more in deep with opinions/sensations during the drive but well done. Keep going! Bye
Great review! I was wondering if you're planning on doing a review of the 5 door MINI?
Eventually I might. It's not at the top of my list. It's a MINI. With additional pair of doors ;)
wayyyy late but excellent review Marek. I have an automatic 15 in Milwaukee and while I would of preferred a manual, I chose this over a bare bones version used. This one had sport seats and the oolala nav and other bits like led head and tail lights. Shifting the steptronic isn't the same but still a bit of fun. Next time I'll see about that manual...Cheers
I wish you had done your review on Mini Cooper s model ...still like your reviews
Thanks
+Nab Aus there's a Cooper S Clubman and Cabrio review on the channel. Check them out.
Haha, I really liked that video. You are really funny! You keep at it, ok! 😆
I test drove this 3 cylinder thinking it was going to have the same shitty acceleration that the old Geo Metro's used to have. Not even close. For a 3 cylinder engine, this car drives amazing. 99% of the time I am not driving at 6,000 RPM's. I would think the 1.5L would be fine for most people instead of the 2.0L if you want to save a little money. I could sense a small amount of vibration in the steering wheel from it being a 3 cylinder. The 4 cylinder is a little more smooth, but it's not that big of a deal. With the upcoming increase of federal taxes on gas, I am thinking about moving to the new 1.5L to squeeze all the MPG I can get. In sport mode this car drives fantastic. I used to have a 140 HP Saturn Ion and this car has less horsepower and is WAY more fun to drive. A well optioned out base with all of the technology toys, NAV, backup camera, dynamic shocks and all of the cool add-on's raise the price between $32,000 and $36,000 on this thing easily. But by adding all of the goodies, then you won't be driving a "buyer's remorse" car. When you buy a car without options, the entire time you're making payments on the car, you'll be wishing you got those extra things. If making a $600-700/mo. car payment is okay with you, you'll be happy with a loaded MINI.
Robert Riley man, with that explanation you definitely should be a car MASTER dealer.
Excellent review
im lil afraid of the electronic can get broken easyly on the minni and the egnine 3-cylinder double turbo idk...:/
Good review! Keep it up!
Dobry z Cb gosciu! - widac profesjonalista :)
tooth fillings! hahaha, great review
Did you drive a MINI before? I drove the Cooper with 3 Cylinder...it was a disappointment. There no MINI driving feeling. Only is sport mode you will get a little MINI feeling but without any sound inside. The suspension is too comfortable. I think you need the electronically suspension control to set it into Sport Mode too. Otherwise you drive a BMW or VW Golf, which is really boring. I think there were involved too much BMW engineers to design a more "common" MINI, really harm.
Did you drive MINI One or MINI Cooper? This is the Cooper version.
Marek Drives I drove the Cooper with 136HP...since 5 years I drive the R56 Cooper with 120HP...I was curious of the new engine...but the difference is not too much, I didn't get a "Wau" effect or feeling...and in my opinion the driving feeling is much worser than before. But this car had not installed the adjustable suspension.
DrDuu Sometimes it's a matter of expectations. I admit I was concerned the 3-cylinder engine in the Cooper will be a steaming pile of horse manure, but I was pleasantly surprised. On the other hand I found the new C-Class Merc underwhelming.
Nice car! I like hatchback cars *^*
put threpassengers and the threecylinders are breathless
how is the clutch hard or soft?
Average.
The mini cooper is good driving
p Jones 5hhuuuu
It DOES have keyless entry.
OK, let's call it "comfort access" like it's called in BMW. It doesn't have that.
Marek Drives
Well it doesn't have the fancy touch sensitive button on the handle like the BMWs. But there is a physical button on the handle that unlocks the car (when pressed) if your key is in your pocket.
Conor Hildebrandt Not on this one unfortunately.
Marek Drives I just took delivery of my Mini this week. Comfort Access was an option. Just because the model you reviewed doesn't have it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
does every mini come with a turbo?!
+steven16 nl Every MINI is turbocharged these days.
Marek Drives ooh thanks
No it's not. The Cooper is non turbo. The Cooper S is turbo
I love the way he's presenting a review! Awesome~
puede llevar gasolina de 95.gracias
*I love this guy !*
This guys bashes this wonderful car because of insignificant details. "I don't know where to put my key or my phone... and the lid wiggles!" ... Oh come on.
It's unlikely that you are going to drive with hand brake pulled are you?
It's a matter of comfort. I don't want to have to readjust the armrest every time I stop and pull the handbrake.
Anyone from the UK here? Don't you guys have to pull the handbrake every time you stop at the lights?
Marek Drives Its not a legal requirement to apply handbrake lights in UK.
io adoro mini però la terza serie è troppo lunga davanti un po' sgraziata e in fondo trovo la seconda serie più proporzionata e più"sportiva " come design (che ho ) cmq w mini
nice
Plenty of Carbuyer in this review, not very original.
I want BMW to do a proper remake of the classic mini. Probably won't happen since it isn't demanded, but i'd love to see a more squared classic look, smaller too with simple features. Basically a classic mini that's safe and doesn't rust haha
MINI did present the Rocketman concept a few years ago, but the last I heard the project is on hold. I guess there are not enough people ready to buy a mini MINI ;)
not really sure why he had a hard time getting out of the car. I'm bigger and taller than this guy and I don't have problem with sitting, getting in and out of the back of a MINI..
did you see the belly on this guy??
that in itself can make anything difficult, e.g tying shoes, getting in a car, sex, etc
this is basically the new bmw 1 series.. which will also be front wheel drive.. and that sucks
wow you actually predicted it..
Buy a 1 series BMW if you want a car.. buy a classic mini or Gen 1 if you want fun.. ;)
Want one :(
Cute little thing.. bad a big and very expensive thing.
How is it expensive? Isn't the standard model around 14000 pounds? That's not cheap, but it's not VERY expensive either.
Only interested in the cooper diesel, you're the only one telling the truth about fuel consumption in the petrol cooper, unfortunately it's not possible to buy it new nowadays, eu politics are ruining everything...
I think they are cool all around but still to many troubles and break downs .
Any reported issues for this generation?
Marek Drives i HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAS A 2014 AND IT WAS FINE. But still rated really low in magazines I mean at the bottom. better off with a FORD ST.
Its nice but its to expensive :/
NITRIC UBERSTRIKE It is, but I'd still consider one instead of a 1 Series BMW.
Saw it at the lot today...did not like it. It lost it's iconic shape. You can't tell from the video. See it in person urself and u'll notice it now shape a crossed between their Countryman and a Mazda Miata.
skinny jeans
damn. ... you seriously lost your manhood reviewing this vehicle.....and don't ever do a small vehicle. lol.
+EcArR eCaRr I don't think small cars affect my manhood. And this MINI is actually pretty good.
+Marek Drives honestly you can't expect me to believe you.
EcArR eCaRr I supposed you watched the review, and nothing else I say will change your mind.
