What a beast of a watch! A thick boy for sure and a little too pricey for me but this is a limited edition anniversary watch, it’s supposed to be exclusive (and to be fair Seiko announced those solar chronos alongside this one which are much more modestly priced) and they totally nailed the vibe of those original 60s stopwatches. And it’s a new in house mechanical chronograph movement! How often do we see one of those for this kind of money? Phenomenal show as always MWC 🙌
I had the mechanical 1/100 of a second watch it kept braking but was a lovely watch , It came out for the Olympic Games .Nice looking watch that little 1/100 second red hand looked awesome, don’t see many anymore. Wish I still had it.
I have what most likely is a "franken/legowatch" in the shape of a beautifully refurbished 6139 6002. It is baed on the numbers on it 50years old. The dial is reprinted, the movement is probably put together out of separate parts of different watches. But, it does have a functioning 6139B in it that looks and performs well. The power reserve is still stock spec, the functions work perfectly, and it is - 12s/day accurate. Have had it for a few years now, so i already got the joy out of it that would be worth what i paid for it. And I could probably get it serviced in the local Seiko Boutique for £150 incl factory parts. Love it.
I got the SRQ037J1 about 1 month ago, I think it's even more superb looking. It fits really well on my 19 cm wrist, despite the micro adjustments. Got it for almost 50 % of the price, so I'm happy, and I just love it.
Still liking it? I'm looking at one as well that's on sale, as I like the 37J1 better in pictures than the 35J1, and would love to hear a "long time" review from you.
😂😂😂 “ Somebody shoot the little shhh” laughed out loud at that one …. Great review of a good looking Seiko but to highly priced, defo getting one of the solar versions… particularly enjoyed the Seiko Showcase 😎
Nice one! I don't mind push pins, they're actually the easiest to change, they don't get loose and fall out like screws, and they aren't a total pain the arse like pins and collars! Lol. It's expensive though. Definitely would go for the solar though!
You took the words. It's a watch I'd love to have in my collection too but I can't see myself paying that for it. I've recently acquired an SSC-446 Seiko Solar chronograph. It's not a Prospex but is a lovely unit. I'm perfectly happy with that. Once again an entertaining and well photographed review. Thanks.
Very nice watch. Shows how much the big luxury brands rip us off. Imagine how much Omega/Tudor even Oris would charge for a brand new column wheel chronograph automatic (fully in-house) movement in a watch finished to the highest standards?! Oris charge over £3k for their non-chronograph in house cal.400 which isn’t a patch on this movement when you truly break it down.
Lovely watch, would easily fit under my sleeve, mind you I am a Wizard. Way too expensive. What does it do that a Seiko SNA doesn’t do? Great episode, do you think Mr P needs his own channel? 👍🏴😁
It is very nice to have a new Seiko movement…..but for that kind of money….I can get the Hamilton Chrono….Mido ocean star Chronograph, or Longines heritage Chronograph…..so…..
Great review.... Passing on this model even though I love the design of the limited edition and the mechanical edition. For that money I'll add in a little more cheddar and grab a Tudor chronograph
I am late to the party as usual. I found a new one in Japan for a reasonable price. Just trying to decide if i want to spend more money on a watch right now. Have some quartz citizen bullheads, a few cheap quartz chronos . Not one real nice mechanical. Really tempted! The thickness will work ok. I wear a 300mm all the time. Great review! Thanks
Very nice, I'd have one if it was £1000 cheaper!! Just wish they'd reproduce the Pogue, it'd sell like hot cakes!!! FWIW the hard coating on Seiko's is extremely tough, not a mark on my Willard despite getting knocked about regularly. Good video as always, Cheers 👍👍
That would be an absolute no brainer if they did that! However, those new solar Seitonas are homaging the 6139 which is where the Pogue comes from. We shall see! Thanks for watching Steve!
Curious if we’ll start to see this movement showing up in various micro brands? It would be nice to have another option for mechanical chronographs, since the only budget option right now is the ST19 (though not sure how “budget” this movement is)
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Possibly, though they do make quite a bit of $ by being the go to movement that's in everything. So maybe they'll keep it exclusive for a while, then offer it more broadly later? We'll see, either way great show! :D
@@BenOwen152 This watch is expensive as hell, it can't be compared to microbrands rocking the ST19. I don't think any other affordable mechanical movement will ever exist (affordable is subjective, but I mean in the price range of the ST19). The market in general is getting pricier and the ST19 is a complete outlier, and an unique case.
Such a handsome watch, i don’t even mind the thickness (although a manual wind with display case back could have worked better), but the price is outrageous and a deal killer for me. Perhaps they could try similar with grand Seiko finishing and refinement
I think as this particular one was homaging the 1964 stop watches, I think a manual wind with a display caseback, would have been the perfect way to go! Thanks for watching my friend 👍🏼
Although the auto is so cool its too thick for my chicken wing wrist, but not like I can afford it either. I'd probably go for the solar ones you showed at the end. Look way more obtainable. Awesome work with the review as always.

For the speedtimer ,the pusher is excessively long .Can catch sleeves &dig into hands.plus water seal problems when hit? Finally price insanely unaffordable!Last watch to choose for design .
That’s stunning but quite pricey! Hopefully you manage to get one of the solar ones in to have a look at as the thickness should be better and it would fit on my manly (not) wrist 😂 loved the intro and ps joining is fantastic and totally worth it!
Yeah, excellent points The limited editions are going to sell out. The standard ones though, I can imagine them getting discounted pretty quickly, they're definitely overpriced. The solar models will likely be very good sellers.
Great review, but at that price there are just too many better options in my opinion. I also expect better tolerances with the movement for that money, i would be horrified losing 20 secs a day having spent almost 3k :)
A bit big for me and not too sure if I would pay that much money for it. Have you seen the new Smirhs vintage inspired mono pusher chronograph military watch in black, it even has the broad arrow
Beautiful timepiece but a little too tall (and very pricey). Was looking at another vintage chrono made famous by Brad Pitt, the Citizen Bullhead reissued. I thought that it is another interesting timepiece with a nice history to add into the watch box. Nice size too. What do you think? 😊 BTW Congrats Russell, for reaching the 10K milestone before December! 👏🏻
Absolutely but takes a little more finesse and hard work together with more than one tool my friend. Screws are just more user friendly yet not as secure?
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I have too 10$ tool from Amazon does the best job while my metal fifty fathoms has a very complicated screw system on both sides and I can’t size it on my own, price of extra luxury
It’s a nice looking watch but at that price Seiko are pricing themselves out of mass appeal. It’s not far off £3k and at that price point you are into tonnes of seriously nice watches that put this one completely in the shade in terms of brand, history and dial materials frankly. I’d expect an enamel dial or something from Seiko for that money.
Seiko are alienating their customers with these overpriced limited editions. The solar chronographs are more like it. £300 and they would be in the right price range.

Chunky as modular movement I.e. the chronograph bit put on top of regular movement so it's not pure chronograph movement. So says RR if I remember.
Big pushers and a nice asp .. I mean clasp ... and chunkier than grand mama's scones ... it's PHAT.
