Parts of this vaguely remind me of a feature that the old InQuest magazine did, where they played multiplayer, but each player was playing a different card game, and on that player's turn, that game's rules applied as best they could agree to them. It was funny reading the table try to figure out how to handle Magic vs. Overpower vs. BattleTech vs. SimCity or whatever the hell they were doing.

After seeing your video with the Cardmarket crew it honestly amazed me how crazy and malleable the magic ruleset is that a lot o this stuff just works within the game (with some minor house rules of course).

    • @wydx120
      @wydx120 5 месяцев назад

I mean, I find whether they're "minor" or not is subjective... But among my friends we joke that once you know how to play Magic, you know how to play any card game, as you can describe most of them as "like Magic, but with X instead of Y", thanks to how thorough the Magic rules are

For cardfight vanguard, Since I saw this on the cardmarket video, I figure I would drop this here.
-The power on the card is the power and defense of the unit. so if a unit has 10K power, it has 10K power.
-The icon on the bottom middle of the card with the star is the critical icon, that tells you how much damage that card does. so when you attack an opponent directly, you are only dealing 1 damage.
-In vanguard, when a card attacks, it can drive check. drive checks are draws but you reveal the top card of the deck. you then add the card you reveal to your hand. if you put triggers in your party box, they can do various effects when you check them. G3's have the twin drive icon so they get to check the top deck twice and add the cards they checked from there
-In vanguard, there are certain cards that have a guard icon at the side of the card, those cards allow you to use the card instead of offense, for defense. This means that you can have a unit block for you if you desire from your hand and this happens during the guard step.
I hope this helps people wanting to add vanguard cards to the party box

Okay so I'm definitely going to create one of these, but I have a cool idea for it...
Not just Booster Tutor to add to it but also things like Invasion of Arcavios and Karn, Great Creator to tutor from outside the game, but whatever they tutor becomes a part of the cube, a donation to the madness, if you will. Keeps their choices limited to what they're willing to give so it won't be broken easily. Sounds really cool!
I am curious what the approximate number of jokers for, say, 300 cards should be.

Fun fact, Duel Masters (MtG's sister game) has cards that interact with face-down lands. There are things like Crystal Soul 3 (Each face-down land you tap pays for 3 of this card's cost instead of 1) and Eternal Kappa (If this creature would leave the battlefield from effect or battle, you may instead turn 3 face-down lands you control face-up). I think they would be interesting to use in this.

I was so excited to see the card market video on this! I’ve had my own version of this for years now, mine leans more heavily into peasant cube than commander as far as vibes go. It can be played either 1v1 or multiplayer and there’s a lot of synergy with picking permanents up ie borderposts, flicker effects, aviary mechanic (and similar). The rules you have for searching and shuffling I might have to adopt, it can be a dexterity challenge to manipulate the deck lol

So we have been doing this with our curated cubes but dont have the lands be all colors, you play lands face up and they are the types of the color of the card. It does two things to add tension: first you have to choose if you want to cast a powerful multicolor spell or play it as a land, and second it allows for better threat assessment as if someone plays grisslebrand as a land you know they have access to flicker grisselbrand and can make more informed choices. (It seems like this is not the direction you want to go, but others should try it).
We do not have a designated party box, which certainly could be interesting, but whenever we have played at a store people are confused by the board state and cant figure out that spells are not just free.

My friend and I used to do something similar, but we'd just grab one of those ~200 card "value" packs from the local game store to use. Stuff like this is why I love card games and why I love Magic specifically. Magic has existed for so long and has graced many players, and as a result, a lot has been done with it.
Projects like this remind players about the true joy and wonder of card games. Of sitting down with people and just having fun. And that's always a goal worth pursuing.
I've recently made a similar deck following a Battle Box ruleset with very low power level cards in order to play Magic with my family again. Just building it alone was a ton of fun, and I highly recommend anyone to try it, even if no one plays it. The act of creation is sometimes all that is needed.
I think I'm going to try making my own party box as well. I love trying to mash together several different games into one play environment and the hilarity and confusion that can ensue. If I can ever find files with my old custom cards in them, I might even make a party box that's full of my oldest custom cards as well.

This has the same energy as the time ~9 friends and I decided to spontaneously play a huge game of Commander in college. One guy in our group didn't have his Commander deck with him so he pulled a bunch of random cards from his collection and a few of each type of land and declared that would be his deck. At one point in the mid/late game when everyone's board state was built up he played Ovinize on (I think) Ink-Treader Nephilim. Suddenly we had 9 people with boards full of 0/1 sheep and it's still one of my favorite MTG memories almost 10 years later.

Honestly, this seems like everything that I love about MTG packed together in one place. The stories and the Gathering has always been the best part of it for me, and this entire idea has it in spades. Can't wait to build my own, and just add to the great memories that the best card game ever made has given me already.

This is like multiplayer Kangaroo Court, which is a format where you play "normal magic" but you can define the rules with discussion, like "bad moon kills blood moon because the earth only has one moon" "but we arent on earth, we are on dominaria" Etc. etc.

I've got a random party MTG chaff box. You can construct any type of deck as long as it's a Grapeshot Catapults deck, or a 1/1 wolves deck.
Game Night decks could easily be salted up to be fun for Parties also.

I had an interesting idea. Spells that can be cast (with increasing cost based on the ability level) of going and using Urza's Fun House or Ask Urza and the card gets that ability. Could make it a modal spell where you get 3 clicks on the site and depending on the CMC of the card can pick more than 1 option.

Love the idea and it looks super fun. If I ever run into you at a Magic Con I would love to play it with you.
I showed it to my playgroup and i fortunately didn’t get good responses. Some of them are too serious I guess. So I will have to wait for the day I can play with you.

Putting one together but with a commander deck. Top card of that deck is face up and can be cast as your commander as long as you don’t control a commander already. Exceptions apply if you control a card with partner or background.

Me and my buddies used to do something similar! we would all gather 20-30 cards we always wanted to play and shuffle them into a pile that goes in the center. You can draw from your deck or the center deck. You can spend mana to cast any card from the center pile. its evolved into a 200 card deck and that's where it stays. Whoever wins chooses a card from the deck to take out and they put something that isn't in it. I always have them put their number on a piece of paper to put behind that card and when someones previous card gets taken out then I message them 😃its been fun to see the deck evolve over the years!

We used to play back in the pre-commander times (2006-7) a format called Limited Infinity. The rules are simple - it's a large collection of a few hundred cards in a box, everyone play from the same library or it can be split to the players, it's multiplayer, and you have infinite mana but you can cast only one spell per turn.
This was quite a lot of fun honestly, it allowed to play with high CMC cards you never see like Yavimaya's Embrace and was very volatile and chaotic. You can put anything in it except for infinite mana that kills players (like Walking Ballista) though the one who carried it did some curation so it will be somewhat manageable and there won't be too many instants or counters since those tend to be quite powerful. (also cycling effects were very strong like Decree of Silence since they aren't spells).

Love stuff like this. We've tried to balance EDH for years in my group with only some success, but we always tend to have salt. I made a cube that has helped to mitigate some of this, but it's nice to see a new spin on that.

I'm a month late, but just built my own party box. Thank you for introducing me to the format!
Executive Summary of my starting party box
Allowing bottom of deck access (meta #1 below for details), 301 cards total, 11 NOT MtG cards (listed below), 4 token MtG cards (listed below),
8x MtG Jokers, limited graveyard removal (by choice), 16x Accumulated Knowledge, and 8x Flickerwisp. Haven't played yet but everyone
who helped build it is interested for at least one try.
********* Longer details below, no need to read if the summary was enough
    My personal meta changes
    1. Allowing use of bottom of library, since library will be in Dragon Shield Nest 300 (Dragon Shield), thus easy to access.
    2. I chose for the graveyard to matter, so I limited the number of graveyard removal effects
    3. starting with 301 cards, since I have a Chaos Confetti in the deck
    4. 8x Flickerwisp
    5. 16x Accumulated Knowledge (I got 4 FNM copies as a gift 10 years back that I wanted to include)
    6. 8x MtG Jokers (sort of has 9, see #9 NOT "MtG" cards)
    7. Lands are additionally Snow Wastes and Portal (produces Purple)
Mtg token cards (4 of them)
1x MtG Hero card, "The Harvester" 0 cost emblem, Abilty: tap > Draw a card, then discard a card
1x MtG token card, 0 cost, 1/1 black "Assasin", Deathtouch and Haste
1x MtG token card, 0 cost, 1/1 blue "Faerie Spy", Flying and Haste, when it deals combat damage to player draw a card
1x MtG token card, 0 cost, The Monarch, you can put it on any player
The NOT "MtG" cards I included (10 unique, 11 total, the 7 simplest cards first)
#1. "13 of Tomes" M2E playing cards King of Clubs, 0 black Instant: Split second, add 13 black mana
#2. Two copies "Lorcana card backside", 0 colorless Instant: Split second, add 5 mana of any combination (diamond and purple okay)
#3. "Stormtroopers Attack!" Star Wars [1977], 0 blue Instant: 42 game to target creature
#4. "Time Vortex" Promo Flux card [1998?], 0 blue Sorcery: gather all player hands, without looking, deal them out starting w/ you
#5. "Primeape" Pokeman, R red Pokeman Ape, 0/100 (doesn't heal): EtB Sac a creature, Ability, R tap > deals 30 damage to target creature
#6. "Everybody Gets One" Flux [1996], 0 blue Sorcery: draw one card for each player, for each player pick and give them one of those cards
#7. "Goal: Power For Its Own Sake" Illuminati NWO [1994], 0 black enchantment: beginning of your upkeep if your creatures power totals 50+ you win
#8. "Flat Earthers" Illuminati New World Order [1994], 0 1/2 red and blue "Weird Conservative"
Ability, tap > roll 2d6, if total equals to or is less than # of lands you have in play, draw cards equal to dice roll total
#9 "Son Goku, the Last Straw" (from game store acquantance [signed and dated]) Dragon Ball Super, G green "Baby Saga", 5000/1
EtB put any one MtG card that you've owned at one point in your life into your hand
When this creature attacks, it gets +10,000/+0 and Double strike
    Rulings:
    i. You can take a permanent on the board if you've owned one in the past (no taking the Lorcana style land)
ii. New cards are temporary infini-tokens and will go and stay in various zones (graveyard/hand/etc) for that game
#10 "Boss' Decision" (from game store acquaintance [signed and dated], promo/business card for "SOTSU"
    0 colorless Instant
Take control and "game ownership" of target permanent an opponent controls, give that player either
    i. a card from your hand (if a permanent, it goes into play face up, otherwise to their hand)
    ii. a permanent you control
This card is now "game owned" by the opponent.
The permanent you took gains, original owner can pay 50,000 mana (can be over turns) to "buy" back "game ownership" and control

Thanks for feedback! It does have a couple sculptors, Necrogenesis and Dig Through Time, as well as a dozen or so reanimation style cards, but I'll add Murktide Regent and Kaya, Orzhov Usurper for the first game (hopefully tomorrow). I'll pay extra attention if graveyards get too crazy or if every joker becomes a Bojuka Bog effect, so I'll know to add more.

@@osc5911 Love the Accumulated Knowledge, added some to mine too.
I was wondering if maybe you've fixed an issue that I seem to have with my party box.
How are the first few turns in your games ?
See, I don't want to run too many ramp cards as I don't find them to to bring fun and exiting gameplay as they diverge from the unhinged multiversal chaotic gameplay I'm going for. Also, putting in enough ramp cards for consistency would immensely dillute the party box from the fun cards.
However, no ramp means the big Timmy pet cards in it raise the curve and often can't be played because the game ends before they can be cast.
How would you fix this ?
I'm thinking group hug mana giving cards, like Magus of the vineyard or Rites of flourishing.

my friends and I play a similar game we call chaos. The deck is 500 cards, there are five separate piles of 50 each basic lands. Non-basic land can be found in the main deck. Sttart by dealing ten cards to each player, they put unwanted cards in their graveyard and take s many lands as they want up to 7 card hand limit. Play proceeds with each player choosing to draw a basic land, two cards from the top of the deck of which the keep one and put the other in the "discard" pile. or choosing a card from the top X cards of the discard pile, where X=number of players -1. Play proceeds similarly to commander. We have several variants and ways to accelerate the game after the first player is eliminated (most keep eliminated players involved, they just can not win). The main decks are curated so to make the cards resonably playable together, and may be theme based. We play enough that we have found it neccessary to write down the rules, including point based systems which reward players for being active instead of sitting on the sidelines until others have been eliminated or drained. It is fun, casual, and highly social.

I really like the way you made mana work. I think it would be cool to play commander with an 'Actual 99', excluding lands and using your mana rules. Totally mitigates flood/screw, which is maybe my least favorite part of MtG. Also, you would have to be strategic about what you wanted to keep in your hand or play as a land turn after turn. And it would also make duals irrelevant. A wonderfully elegant solution. I salute you!
