  • Ive built Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Me-262 A-1a model plane. This was the worlds first jet fighter aircraft and took to the skies during WWII. Ive used a both Tamiya & Vallejo acrylic paint for the fuselage/cockpit/wings. Some of the engine parts, wheel bays, and interior fuselage were painted with Alclad II lacquer. I used a small amount of Abteilung oil paints for weathering. I used Aires kits 4203 & 4206 for the flaps and slats on the wings. These are typically extended when the plane is stationary and the Tamiya kit does not provide options for this. I did not use any photo etch on this kit. I used Iwata & Badger airbrushes.

    Nice to see that the main landing gear are angled inwards by six degrees each! A lot of builders miss that on the Me262.

    Spectacular kit, in the hands of a master, knowledgeable about aircraft. Thank you for the enjoyment of watching!
    One clarification: gauges (spelling, writing are my expertise). I am not picking nits: if one errs in one area, one can miss them in others. (Mine is maths!)
    I recently had determined a way to light up the instrument panel dials, lights, etc: some Eduard photo-etched detail sets include (or had) a film of the dials that align precisely with their PE instrument. A small light shortly behind it would illuminate them; add a diffuser, and paint the interior white to enhance reflection. (However, Eduard since had taken a different path with pre-painted, full-colour instruments, unfortunately. I wish they made full- colour dials on the film.)

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  5 лет назад +2

      Appreciate it. You can indeed paint without an airbrush and I did that for many years when I was younger. With proper thinning and technique, you can make it look very good. The only paint I use which truly needs to be airbrushed is alclad lacquer (seen in the dc-10 video and some in this video). I prefer airbrushing now because its easier to get a smooth consistent finish and it also looks better for blending soft camo lines IMO.

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you and welcome to the channel! The silver airbrush is an Iwata hp-cs with 0.35mm tip. It's my workhorse for large coverage and I use it at around 16-18 psi. The black one is a badger sotar 20/20 with a 0.2mm tip. I use it for fine details and mottling at slightly lower pressure (12-16). I practice the fine mottling and detail work on spare sprue or paper to help get the right feel/look.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII 5 лет назад +1

      You might want to look around and see what modelers on forums are saying about airbrushes as well as the YT hobby channel guys.
      You'll probably have to buy the airbrush online unless you want to take a chance on the models they're selling or have in stock at Hobby Lobby. The airbrushes they had in stock were Iwata's and they were probably at least $89 if I remember correctly. A good airbrush is not cheap but I've heard people make do well with $40-$45 models but the ones that give you "more options" are generally more expensive like anything!
      The last I checked, I didn't see any airbrushes at Michaels. As it is, both stores are scaling back on their modeling sections and the dedicated modeling stores are dying out.
      I live in the Columbus area and the two modeling stores I was aware of locally have both closed down and the only "easy-access" stores with modeling supplies are Michaels and Hobby Lobby. A year ago, those two stores were carrying more Star Trek models than they do now but they've clamped down harder on their modeling sections and reduced inventory of sci-fi models but still have cars, planes, and ships in stock. Ironically, if you wanted Gundam or Bandai Star Wars kits, you'd have a better chance of finding those at Barnes & Noble!
      (Another place that may have useable supplies for modeling is Blick Art Store in Dublin. They probably carry some useable acrylic and enamel paints for models.)
      Online is cheaper unless a stores is closing out/has a clearance sale on models they will not carry again. HL and Michaels did that with a lot of Star Trek model kits this past year!

    • @ScaleModelAssassin
      @ScaleModelAssassin  4 года назад +2

      I did a lot of practice off to the side before I got it right. Using a small needle will help too. I used 0.2mm. you could try adding more thinner if 50/50 isn't working out for you. I did a lot of experimenting with both thinning and air pressure before I got to a point I liked. Good luck!
