I'm just super proud of our Hawkeyes. Caitlin is an amazing ambassador for women's basketball. There are SO many admirable things about this young lady, but one of the most impressive and often overlooked is that she could have played anywhere in the country and she wanted to represent her home state and hopefully help revitalize her home state university’s program. I guarantee you that she never thought she’d actually play for a national championship during her tenure when she initially made that decision…..and look where she is now.
That’s not to say that every player should not have the freedom to chose the program of her choice, just that her personal reasons for her choice are so admirable.

Jeff Joy Her dad and her grandfather saw when she was 5 that she had something special. She would play with brothers and cousins in the driveway, and even though she was smaller, she was feisty, and good. Her dad coached her with a boys team when she was a kid, and in one game, a boy from the other team (bigger and older) had given her a pretty good shove out of bounds. She went over to her dad, crying that he had done that and no foul was called. He told her she had to stop crying or she would spend the rest of the game on the bench. It didn't take her long to stop those tears, and when she was back in the game she returned the favor to the "bully". He never got that close to her ever again for how ever many seasons they might have played against each other. Caitlin was incredibly good at a very young age. I'd say she has only gotten better.

The only thing I would highly recommend is that Caitlin and team should stop listening to the media hype and ALWAYS respect their opponents because they've worked just as hard to get ahead in the tournament. I didn't like when Caitlin waved off her south Carolina opponent as if she was a non factor and didn't needed to be guarded. Iowa's win over South Carolina inflated their ego going into the game with LSU. It was further boosted when Iowa was picked as the favorite to win the title. Unfortunately, listened to the hype. They underestimated LSU and approached them as if they were just an insignificant step to a trophy. What happened?? LSU won the title. Lesson- it is intelligent and good sportsmanship to be humble and respectful at all times bc Iowa/Caitlin is not the best until theyve won. This season, LSU is the best.

Those low quality refs ruined not just the game, but ruined this opportunity in history for women's basketball to skyrocket to the next level (granted, Iowa still would've had to win). We were at a precipice, a moment in time where the hype was real, casual fans were at a fever pitch, and this sport was about to take off......if not for those unskilled refs. So now we're back at the status quo. The energy will flatline, because no one but LSU fans care that LSU won (whereas casual fans would've been intrigued by Caitlin Clark, let's be honest).
Good job refs, you completely skewered this timeline and the way it was supposed to go. Caitlin was supposed to take this sport to new heights, everything was set for that to happen. If not for undeserving, untalented, random refs who were probably handed this position. And honestly, until the rest of _you_ guys grow the balls to actually call the refs out (fans, players, etc), tweet at them, make an uproar, no one will face consequences, and things like this will keep happening. Being diplomatic and gracious losers isn't always the answer.
