You said you did not wish to visit the foundations again in your life time. That has got to be one of the best tanking jobs I have ever seen on youtube to date. I think you have gone well beyond what was needed. An outstanding job. It gets my vote....
As you said. I am a builder/remodeler. Most people don't realize that CODE is the most minimum allowed crappy job you can do and get away with legally.
How is he going to keep the fines from migrating into the rock and ruining it over time? There's no barrier like the silt fabric he put over his secondary footer drain. There's a product (or more than 1) that put this barrier in place against the foundation to help relieve that osmotic pressure but it would have gone in place of that pink foam.
Hey thanks for the video ! Can't wait to see the next move. I love watching you build your extension, there's always so much you can learn from watching someone tackle such a challenge. Besides, living in Belgium, things are built different and it's great to see different ways of doing things. Keep the vids coming ! Thanks again and congrats for the great work !
Building codes are the minimum, not necessarily the worst. When we do projects ourselves, we always go above and beyond what's required. I can't count the number of times folks have told me, "That's not how we do it here." Great video. Thank you.
Appreciate you showing the entire process start to finish. I will most likely never have to do this, but I'm definitely curious what how it should be done to a high standard. As usual, you are showing immense attention to detail, patience and professionalism. You've done an awesome job there! One last thing: I love your pups. I have a German sheppherd myself, and I love the breed. I'm so happy that they have sibblings to play with and LOADS of space to roam around outside. Perfect live for them 🥰
Like your sense of humor! "This side will be fun, a real party"!! LOL Did not realize just how labor intensive water proofing was! Great job , keep the videos coming!
Good to see the two supervisors keeping an eye on the project again :) They are great looking and well behaved. This project has been amazing so far. I can't imagine taking it on. 🐾🐾
Your so right about asking a contractor to do what you have done for drainage I can see them rolling their eye now and telling you that you don't need that, It's a waste of time and money because they won't want to do it your way. Just backfill and run with the check. Then you have years of trying to stop leaks. I think this was well done and worth all your effort. The Pay off will be a bone dry basement for the life of your home., Something so many people wish they had.
Thanks for making another great video. Long one too and really enjoy it! When it comes to waterproofing...you can never do enough. And it looks like you did your homework. Looking forward to the next video. Have a great weekend.
Love watching your progress. Caught your series just as you started digging for the addition and enjoyed watching every episode. You've thought things through and prepared for issues along the way. Cheers.👍
Too much about modern-day home construction is the sacrifice of longevity and quality for speed. When the fraudulent mortgage finance industry kept telling people that you can move out of your house and sell it in a few years before the adjustable rate mortgage becomes impossible to pay at the highest income you are ever likely to make in life, the quality of homes went considerably down. If you're not buying and building it to stay in it forever like this, and can't take the time, then you become a ready victim to the finance industry that few people fully understand. Younger people really need to watch these videos long before they're ready to buy a house! Thanks for posting!
I applied for a mortgage back then, I was clearing a little over four grand a month, so I was looking for $175,000 to $200,000, I got approved for $450,000, the payment would have been more than I was clearing. When I pointed it out to the jerk, he said you'll have more to claim on your taxes so you'll take more home. I can't believe so many people fell for that scam.
I am always so very Leary at seeing guys.Go down on foundations where it has been dug out to do waterproofing. I had a very close friend who used to do that type of work and was killed because of a collapse of the ground around the house. Please no matter how safe you can be with precautions Chun's.There is always that little bit of a chance that something could happen!
I know I found your channel by recommendations made after I've been watching Cole the Cornstar for years, but I'm glad the algorithm did that. I've genuinely enjoyed watching your process of doing all of this. I'm proud of you, because you can tell future generations you did that yourself with a small crew of fellas and a few good dogs to help when times got frustrating.
That foundation detailing is beautiful. Not to mention the extra insulation you've got added for protection is going to do wonders for your energy bill. Love your point about the building code as well, which is so true. Great work!
I love watching these updates. You're doing a great job and I also have the same mentality on spending a little extra or time to do it properly or prevent future issues later. I'm doing a boat restoration and I'm not cutting any corners. I could do the same thing cheaper or faster but I want it to last for several decades. The way I see it is peace of mind and probably cost more and take longer fixing something later instead of going above the first time. Look forward to more updates
I'm learning a lot and I'm just watching for fun. I have a very tall crawl space. Almost can stand up straight when walking. I would love to replace the crawl space with a basement. But I think I'm realistic and probably won't happen by myself nut I considered a partial basement. Enough for water heater, well pump ect. and tornado shelter. I could handle that myself. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
I'm no builder but if I had taken on this job I would like to think I would have taken the time to prevent water issues later on. In my eyes this is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea to add another drain as long as it is open. So much easier and cheaper to do that than have a problem later and have to do it then. No substitute for getting the drain down at the bottom. Way better to have too much gravel than not enough. Take that much longer for the fines to fill it in so it acts with the drain much better. You are of course going to be gambling that your new addition trenches aren't going to cave in over the winter with rain, freeze, thaw, and snow. Very nice work. Hope you get a chance to get the new portion stabilized. Try to keep flowerbeds and plantings away from the house (sidewalks of cement insure that the area is clear and planters can contain roots and soil as well as being easy to move when the walls need maintenance). Trees, bushes, etc. kill houses.
When it is all said and done, I would love to see a video of that water from the foundation drains exiting to daylight, i’m curious how much water is around a foundation👍🏻🇺🇸
Perfect, exactly how I would do it myself. The rule to live by, always do your best work with the best materials where you never want to go back to. That bead of sealant between the footing and the wall could have been bigger, it's all about creating a curve and not a fold, the curve will aways be more robust with no thinning in the membrane that would be caused by a 90 deg fold, that said I have seen this large curve done around a commercial building subject to seawater tide rise in the ground of about 8ft, the tanking was quite elaborate and they still got leaks, it was my job to seal the entire sub floor after the fact which was very expensive but a total success. What you have done as you say exceeds what is normally a cost driven low benchmark so you deserve to be very happy with yourself.
That was a real "Belt & Braces" approach to the waterproofing. I don't think you'll ever need to worry about it as you're hoping. I like that sticky membrane stuff, going to see if I can get hold of some similar stuff myself here in the UK as I'm going to resurface the flat roof of my garage sometime soon That stuff looks better than the roll on stuff for the roof as I will then be adding a light layer of gravel too. Nicely done from you as per usual👍
For a flat roof I would use an EPDM rubber membrane rather than a bituminous membrane. Each seam is overlapped and glued, and no gravel is required, which simplifies things a lot.
Yes, ensure that your Foundation Drain (Weeping tile pipe that is perforated PVC around the entire perimeter of house with the geo-wrap membrane) is connected to PVC to the sump pump within your Utility Room, then PVC Straight from sump pump out to the side of the Foundation wall, better have a cleanout stack as well, now is the time to do it ! Great Rehab job!... Actually Hot Asphalt works well for Foundation walls...oops, forgot that you are on ICF Styrofoam walls. That partition plywood board separating Drainage bedding backfill and Dirt...Brilliant! It's not too late to add a Bunker Basement !
Working in an unsecured trench like that is pretty sketchy. Glad it worked out for you. It's a gamble I see homeowners and contractors take all of the time. Left alone that vertical wall of dirt will not remain that way forever.
thank you for a clean, family friendly and very interesting video series. there are so few that are decent for everyone to enjoy but yours is one of those! thank you and may God bless and keep you..........g
good video makes me miss my father in law he passed in march he was the type of guy who could build anything do anything wealth of knowledge type of man . keep the videos coming well keep watching
I personally would have put filter fabric over the dirt banks then filled it completely with gravel or sand. I know that cost more in material but it would be much faster than the process of separating the dirt and the gravel. The silt/clay will flow into the gravel over time . I found this out with my weeping tiles - there was no fabric over it but sand migrated through the gravel into the tiles and filled it quickly. I had to have a section dug up and of course it was the area where the utilities came into the house, so lots of hand digging. . Fortunately you put fabric on your tiles. I always like to have extra security after a basement flooding long ago. I also like the dimple mat (brand name Delta) that helps avoid the hydraulic pressure of water pushing into your tiles (drains). Thanks fir the video! P.s. where I am north of Toronto, sand is free, but of course you must truck it to your location. It is allowed as backfill. It is separated out from gravel processing and there is so much of it, they will get rid of it.

Great drainage. One thing you may want to consider as you can, add a title in the middle of the basement. That way if you get a Noah flood, you have extra title drainage.
After the pour, use the hose to wash concrete off the ICF and footings, scaffolding etc so its all clean the next day and easy to strip. Use Hex head screws near concrete so screws are easier to unscrew when removing bracing and scaffolding etc We typically have never used a caulking on bottom of ICF but do wrap the membrane over the top of ICF and hang 3 ft wide strips from top and down the wall over footing. Primer is great adhesive (latex) and maybe only necessary in cold or damp weather. In summer the P&S will stick to ICF if not dusty or wet. Dimple board and backfill soil will hold the P&S anyway
Back 1980's when we did wood foundations We used 3/4 4x8 plywood sheet with 2x4 screwed each side about a 10" down with the hole below the 2x4 used 4 or 5 sheets and keep pulling the one out and moving forward and use 2x4 for our 12" space block take the rock with in 4" of the top so we had Great Drain around the foundation plus we had a extra front on the bucket to let us reach out and get the rock in the space

@@yellow_noise3I did
The second drain system was a very good idea!
Thanks!
The idea with the board to put gravel on one side and earth on the other is just so smart.

@@phanson21 and when that happens itll still be 95% stone that will drain 10x better than the clay 5 inches from it

Your money is well spent on foundation and waterproofing. Thanks for another great video.
You appear to be pretty particular, a perfectionist, while doing all these building tasks.....and I love that.
perfectionist? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤦♂

Looks the lab inspector visited too. Beautiful fur babies.
Could almost be Cody visiting….
I thought I saw one say "Humans, you so crazy."
You and Andrew’s ability to keep the corners of that steel plate away from the ICF is nothing short of remarkable. Everything looks great!

AWESOME.Thats all i say.your videos keep getting better.their really interesting to watch. can not wait to see the next one.
I love your point about the building code. It's amazing how many people will try to build below code to save a few dollars even on their own home!
Great video! Your approach and execution of finishing the exterior foundation was well done. I look forward to future project updates.
I’ve been with you from the start of this project. So awesome to see the house on the foundation. Love the content.
I love this series!! Always looking forward to the next one. Can't wait to see the garage and basement come together.
That plate method is a WINNER! Loving the series, thanks for sharing. The pups are always entertaining
I'm really surprised this channel doesn't have 10x the subs! I'm sure it will soon... this is some great work!!
Thanks!
It’s coming along great, you’ve got a very methodical approach to doing stuff
Good luck

I really like how hard you work to install the water proof material .looks Great, great job

You definitely went above and beyond on the foundation. Great job! I’m sure that payback to your friends will be heck. 👍😎
The water proofing job are done so well, can stand life time without doubt.
