- Many different eye problems can cause red eyes. Watch this episode of A State of Sight with Isaac Porter, MD to learn about a few of the potential causes of redness and some of the treatment options.
Dry eyes, infections / ulcers, inflammation, and pterygium are all treated differently and have unique symptoms and findings in addition to causing red eyes. If there is a significant amount of pain along with redness, be sure to see your eye doctor as it could be a serious problem.

This happened to me. I was eating a lot of vegetables at the time. When I cut back on cruciferus vegetables it went away. I also stopped looking at screens 30 minutes before going to sleep.

I was driving for five hours. Because of the dry air caused by the air conditioner and concentrating too much at the time caused me to blink less which caused my eyes become red. It's astonishing that no one talks about the bloodshot eyes caused by driving constantly for longer as a cause other than the causes being the computer and mobile phones only.
Everytime I go outside my eyes get red, when I come back home they go back to normal again... For example everytime I go to school or somewhere else my eyes get red idk why

Yep, I sure have one of them, it is somewhat painful; it hit me like a brick one day fine the next day red and scratchy, while driving about 50 MPH I felt something made contact with my skin below the lens between the frame and skin I put my index finger between the eyeglass frame and my skin next I hit a bump and my finger came in contact with what seemed my eye socket or eye ball, that started the cycle, I would imagine I started the infection? I will try and see my eye doctor tomorrow; I do have dry eyes and take special drops for tears in addition to two prescriptions regarding high pressure in my eyes.

Thank you Dr I am suffering from the last condition. A growth inward and the last time I consulted I was asked to prepare for surgery. It is on both eyes. Any advice on this?

From Marine Vet: Question: Suffering from Insomnia for weeks. Drink more than usual more on weekends. Day 1 after resting (nap) woke up with minor sore throat follow by dry coughing, than later mucus. Days later hoarse voice to the point of having no voice. Drinking more same time. Day 6 woke up with both redness eyes with small mucus in the center/inner corner of eye by nose. Use two difference eyes drops (ie. Clear Eyes 7 symptom Relief). Drinking and voice almost gone. Day 7 (stop drinking) Water, Gatorade, Apple Cider Vinegar (Detox), Green Tea with pomegranate. RUclips search on Viral vs Bacterial infection . Do not rub the eyes that's sometimes the main reason especially after waking up.
Keep water in the mouth then open eyes and splash extremely cold water in your eyes.

I've had a lot of it too. The redness just goes away when I refrain from using my phone for a day. I've also used eye drops to ease the irritation because I thought it could be just dry.

I get a red hurting eye or eyes that I can't even keep my eye from tearing up a lot and it hurts when I look at something bright or white. Like light colors. I've been using Rohto cooling drops for red eyes "for fun" because it felt cool when I was 13. This turned into a habit. Now I'm 26 and it's been really difficult to impossible to have normal white eyes. I only recently quit using these eye drops but scared I may have red eyes forever.
If you use these Red eye remover drops currently, beware of it's long term use. IT'S BAD! Like, I have to look into the mirror to make sure my eyes aren't red bad. But of course, if you've been drinking and smoking well I have friends who use this temporarily and it helps. But do get some rest, or you'll end up like me. Same here, so scared because I had prk 4 months ago, don't know if it's related though. I took antibiotic eyedrops as well as drops for pink eye and I still have it. dark green leafy veggies , like spinach and mustard greens, khale, and plenty of water. Also dim the PC light as much as u can. it hurts the eye too. when you are outside like school, the air and wind dries the eye. redness occurs. but plenty of water and dark leafy greens help for a duration. not permanent.
My actuall eye colour changes according to my personality so I'm really rare.

I have red eyes all the time. From the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep. Sometimes when I get 8hrs of sleep it’ll fade a bit and will be pinkish instead of red. Been using eyes drops for years cause it’s embarrassing to have bloodshot eyes all the time. People either tell me I look tired, drunk, or high. Seen a dr and told me it was dry eyes. Used a few different artificial tear eye drops and it helps a little. Idk if there’s anything out there that I can use to help me clear this once in for all. I do remember once I had an infection from a cold and was prescribed antibiotics with steroids and that whole time my eyes where white as paper. I was relieved. Once I got off them they went back to being red. Just need some help on this

I have a couple of questions, I noticed that recently I have blood shots in the eyes every time I'm stressed or sexually active. Also, my blood pressure sometimes is high... what is the relationship between red eyes and stress/anxiety? Is this a sign of a potential stroke or heart attack... Can this be a problem in my brain?

could be the sweet from hair products going into your eyes. I use hair products like waxes or pomade's, it happens to me often. Th could be a reason, but give a workouy a go with no hair products, if that doesn't work see a doctor.

Hii! I am a 23 year old man with major red eye issue. I have consulted a number of doctors for the treatment but each visit ended up with a new problem. hmmm i get red eyes too if im outside long enough , the wind or air will dry up my eye. I think red eye are dry eyes. Maybe drink enough water and dark green leafy veggies? But if im inside with windows open circulated i dont get red eyes as much. barely now. And i find that Light from a PC , will tend to make my eyes red too. dries my eye or something. dim the PC light as much as you can. The Monitor. They say dark leafy greens help with eyes. and water.

Iv read through the comments and I can say im no where near these guys, I simply play games at night and sleep like 4 in the morning. my eyes start to ich, It either iches mostly on the left eye or the right one. Please help! I have eyes redness all the time. Anytime i wake up from sleep whether day or night,my eyes become red. This has been going on for almost 2 years. What are the treatments? Hello that's the title of the video... false advertisement.
Good point, I changed the title. The only treatments I mention in the video are artificial tears for dryness and steroids for inflammatory redness. For the other causes: bacterial infections require antibiotic drops, viral infections usually need time for the body to clear the infection, and a pterygium usually requires surgical removal when it is large.
Yo if you want to get rid of red ugly eyes go buy vitamin A soft gel pills and take one a day and Glutathione pills too. Also buy a quality eye drops called Naphacon A eye drops u can buy it at your local grocery store or CVS its like 10bucks
