@Joe - I was looking for old news about the 2007 floods we had and in one of the news stories, it explained that the Hull floods were suppressed and hidden from the public as to what was happening, yet again, due to politics. The news story als explained that during WWII, as someone here in the comments, Hull was a primary target due to having the docks, well the bombing of Hull was also suppressed. The flood story also said that Hull was second in the list of places to be hit the worst by flooding, London was first.

Firstly Thank You for these great Historic Videos of Then & Now; I'm 58yrs Hull born & bread with long family connections in Hull; Mam n Dad grow up through the war, evacuated into the fields of East Yorks, they both saw demolition of their streets especially around Mams Childhood area of Wincolmlee; I have in my life seen such massive changes to Buildings to complete eradication, which in some obvious areas needed. Its the inner City centre history that seems to be Totally Going; which your films clearly show, The Docks marina near earl de grey Changed Hulls inner identity forever, The Earl de grey & the locks NOW just been tore through destroyed forever for a road that could have tunnelled well below; In reality the change has been far to Deferential to Hulls past, It feels like we have lost our inner identity; Rebuilding Old History should have happened as part of Restoration/ & Plus the changes made upon Hull was far to fast that in some places Looks like a horrid cheap face lift that doesn't quite fit the brief. Hull was Very Majestic, I still live here but do very much Miss it.

Me and my mate Steve from Dappat engineering made the steelwork to form the big wedge on the top of Princes Quay that houses the lift Gear. The Crane That put it up was at ground level and we had to climb up it like monkeys with Podgers and spanners. I also made and fitted the ladders to the three Towers on the top of the whaling Museum and I made the gangplank to the spurn lightship while at Dappet.

I lived in Hull for a year back in the '90s and last night, by curious coincidence, had a dream set there (though for some reason Hessle Road looked more like it belonged in Las Vegas than it ever did when I lived off it ^m^). Presumably you've started psychically broadcasting trailers for your coming attractions now? ^.^ 'tis sad that it took such a beating in the war, for 'tis clear from what survived that the city must have been quite majestic in the past.

I really enjoyed this video, my home town. I am curious about Beverley Gate....thought it was called Whitefriargate?

Hi Sue. I think the name is in reference to the original Outer Gate rather than to the street it is situated by?

@@JamesFoxTimeTravelArtist This is correct. the gate today is in the hole in the ground to the left of the photo. where the glass barrier is.

Incredible, I moved to Hull 16 years ago so a lot of the old stuff I’ve only seen in video. The Humber bridge was an interesting one, reminded me of a zipline 😅 which I think would make an interesting idea to add to humber bridge to attract visitors, The Deep is losing its vibe.

true but picture this; youre on a zipline and below you is a 100+ foot plummet to your probable death or you end up in hull. how big will the queue be? lol
