This video focuses on the vial visual inspection process - a critical step in our aseptic fill finish line, located in Sligo, Ireland.
Visual inspection ranks as an essential operation in parenteral drug production to ensure the safety of your product. The industry is seeing increased emphasis by regulators on having a well-characterized and robust process, especially with regard to particulates.
While visual inspection is a common quality assurance process, it is not a simple one. Best practices for visual inspection include a detailed list of defects with risk assessments to support the category chosen (e.g., critical, major or minor). This ensures that training is successful in identifying areas where human inspectors may need more guidance.
Training inspectors should be confirmed with a robust challenge. Sets of good containers that have been seeded for defects are needed, as well as an identified test set to establish detection probabilities in typical manufacturing conditions and situations found on the production line (i..e - known flaws).
AbbVie continues to provide industry leading visual inspection, manually performed by inspectors who have had extensive training. Because of this, AbbVie continues to set the standard for end-to-end pharmaceutical contract manufacturing.
