- Those spider things in that episode of the Mandalorian were freaky. They are called Krykna and have some kind of history. One of you asked how I'd do that so I tried. This is the result.

"I hate wasting time troubleshooting things that are supposed to save me time"! Now there's a perfectly relatable statement! :)
So true too! Thanks 😀
:D 100%
Got this comment from a UI coder once on why he used Apple instead of Windows for work.
@@KevBinge Octopus has eight legs, those are pretty cute.
Very cool. The geo node grid trick worked well.
Thanks! I’d actually watched one of Erin’s videos after I’d recorded this and he has a while thing on raycast. I could have shouted him out.
Need more RUclipsrs like you that will go in depth on what exactly you're doing. I see too many channels where people just feed terrible music over what they are doing and don't explain a damn thing.
Thanks!!
@@KevBinge no problem man. Keep up the good work
A result of a 12 minute tutorial that looks like this?! Insane! Awesome job, man!
Thanks Ahmed. I wanted to do a few more passes but that’s always the case. It was about 3 hours total minus rendering for this result.
on most things, you can just right click on a property and choose "copy to selected" to speed up things. like at 6:38 when un-checking "inherit rotations" for all the foot bones. there's also a copy attributes addon built-in blender that lets you copy modifiers, bone constraints etc from one object to all... I don't know if you didn't knew or intentionally didn't use both these ways to save time... but good tutorial nonetheless...
I was looking for something that did that actually, so thanks!!
Can you do a follow-up tutorial? Spiders come out of caves and crawl onto people, swimming or crawling onto them, turning them into bones.
5:12 Mirroring bones probably didnt work because the symetrize function needs the last letter of the bone names to be _L for it to recognise and rename the other half.
yeah, its like "Leg_l" / "Ankle_l", then you press symmetrize and it works with same armature on the other side with "Leg_r" / "Ankle_r" and so on.
Yeah, I’d gone back afterward and was like... “Doh!” I literally did that in a previous video too, but just plowed through it here and did it manually lol. Thanks!
@@KevBinge dude, the bones are not connected to the model, what should I do?
the quickest and most efficient way to go from your imagination to reality - thank you so much Kev, super motivating video - quick & dirty ! Beautiful summary of what Blender offers :O Cheers from Brussels !
Thank you! Blender is a great tool! Cheers from the USA!
Very cool, thanks for sharing. Hilarious commentary through out and definitely educational for those of us still kind of learning more basic stuff than the geonode work. Got me excited to play around with them and learn more, thanks again!
Thank you! I’m glad it plays to basics as well. It’s always a fear of mine that I’ll gloss over too much, so I’m happy it’s somewhat effective for learners at different levels. Thanks for the feedback!!
This makes me want to learn how to use blender. Awesome explanation of how you did everything
Thanks! I say go for it! It’s a great journey.
Great video style, easy to follow but also you explain your thinking process superbly. I want to make my own army marching across landscapes :)
Thanks!! I say go for it!!
Always like a side of humor with my tutorials. Thanks!
this had me captivated the whole time. as someone whos wanting to learn more blender this was amazing!
Thanks! It’s really fun and worth it.
when you said "spiders usually hang from my ceiling", (1:32) I looked up and there was a spider on my ceiling
Lol... yikes!!
It's best to crawl and avoid obstacles during the process
Very Cool Tutorial, inspired me to try something myself. Made a short animation with one of these spider creatures. My first attempt at animating a creature. Thanks very much for the Inspiration.
That’s awesome!
HIGH END 3D.
Good Lord.
I have not heard that name in a LONG time.
Thanks for reminding me about that website.
I was shocked when I’d found it too lol. I felt like Ben Kenobi hearing “Obi-wan” again haha.
Wow that was Awesome KevBinge.
Love your work flow and how you tackle problems. Your great inspiration, keep up your great work.
Thank you! I have more coming 😁
Quick tip for rigging in blender. If you dont want to go around and name every bone .L in blender you just select the needed bones, press ctrl + f2, set it as set name and choose bones from the list and type .L, that will make all the bones you selected to have .L at the end of their name. Hope this helps!
So easy, yet the results are amazing. The power of Blender at work!! Great tutorial!
Thanks!!
Always informative tutorials. Thanks for sharing the tips.
You’re welcome Cesare, and thank you 😀.
spider crabs have 8 legs, and by the way spiders dont have bones the have exoskeletons and their legs run off hydraulics. A valve at the entrance to each leg regulates different blood pressures for different movements. That is the main reason why they can move so quickly for their size.
That’s cool to know. Thanks!!
This is amazing!!! I would recommend using a shape key on the mouth to animate it moving a bit
Thanks. Yeah, I called it quits after a few hours on this one. I should spend more time on these haha.
Great tut Kev, thanks so much! V much enjoyed. 🕷🕷👍👍
You’re welcome, and thanks!!
"you know what else has eight legs"
A really stable chair
Hahahahaha!! Great one!
I really enjoyed the tutorial. Thank you for inspiration!
You’re welcome, and thanks!
This form of tutorial you made, are awesome, very rich and useful, Thank you
Thanks!!
you made it seem SO easy
trying to understand how each of the steps worked on it's own (attempted reverse engineering to understand the base components to then use to make whatever i wanted) twisted my brain into a pretzel. nice work on the animation. the amount of time spent to get this good must have been immense.
Thanks Gabriel! It was many, many late nights and most of it was before RUclips.
this children, is how spiders look like.
Haha!!
I don't know what's going in this video, but it's very cool to see the end product. To be honest i didn't know people can do this.
All arachnids have 8 legs. This would include of course spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites I think. I don't know if one would considered tentacles as legs, but the octopus has 8 of them. Squid have two extra tentacles called arms, giving them 10 tentacles in total
Thanks! You’re right.
This is dope. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, and you’re welcome.
awesome tutorial. Cheers!!
Thanks Sam!
Thank God there’s people that know how to do this to make movies because there’s no way in hell I could lol. I could make you a spider creature with materials ,definitely not a computer.
It takes more people in the real world to make movies than digital. That’s some real skill too, but thanks 😀
😱 Just incredible
Thank you!!
i liked watching this because i gave up on blender/ sculpting/ anything 3D a long time ago after trying to learn it. i just wanted to make custom avatars for VR chat because the idea of using other people's didn't feel right and i wanted to show off my own creations which i had a lot of ideas for. you made it look so simple and a few things started to click that i tried to learn, such as when you turned the square into the head. i wouldn't try blender again but it was fun to watch.
That’s too bad that you gave up, but this is a road that can eat the best of us at times. I’m glad you enjoyed he video, and maybe you’ll pick it up again at some point. Thanks!
your patience baffles me, insane work
Thanks! It takes quite a bit.
Well I should have slept, but couldn't stop watching. Many thanks. Awesome talents.
Thanks!!
When you said "spiders have 8 legs you know what else have 8 legs" I thought this was gonna be an ad read. RUclips HAVE CHANGED ME!
Hahahaha! Yeah, I did a sponsored video once. I have enough clients right now lol.
A Barber Shop Quartet has eight legs. Creeeeepy!!!
(Great vid. Thanks for posting it!)
Lol! Thanks!!!
Great video!
Thanks!!
never seen the show, or seen how blender works....why did I watch all 12 minutes? idk but I don't regret it
Thanks Christian!!
i have no idea what i just watched but i loved it and that was amazing work XD
Thank you!!
Wow! Awesome work!
Thank you 😀
spectacular and impressive, thanks :)
You’re welcome, and thanks!
You've always been brilliant, Kev, but you seem to have gone next level!
Thanks David! I’m now wishing I’d done another animation pass for more weight lol!
@@KevBinge there's nothing stopping you doing that but you absolutely captured the essence, especially the freakiness. That was the important bit, in my humble :-)
And, I'm guessing, your Houdini experience is giving serious weight to the geometry nodes stuff
Thanks David! I’ll probably give it one more pass after I finish this current freelance shot I’m working for a client.
when you said "they usually crawl on the ceiling" I fkn looked up!
Hahahaha! I always do.
Damn! I've always looked out for a channel that had good explanations and walkthroughs on Blender! Wow, you make it seem so easy and understandable, you should teach if you don't already... or try and get a Gig with Skillshare to make your own tutorials... You are very clear with your explanations and process.
Thanks! I have taught in the classroom before at the college level. I started this channel partly because I missed helping people, but I do love the production work.
Great stuff kev
Thanks!!
I obsorbed nothing from this video since I find this type of blender stuff complicated as shit. But this was enjoyable as fuck to watch! You got a like and a sub from me!
Thank you!! It’s complex but each smaller task is doable, mostly lol. Welcome to the channel!
fun fact sea spiders are a thing. they arent spiders but probably the closests related thing to spiders you can find in the ocean.
Also they are entirely made of legs and is built exactly like what you got here minus the brain blob up top.
That’s cool to know. Thanks!
Wow, thank you so much
You’re welcome.
Amazing
Thank you!
Gee, didn't know you could project the grid on a surface using a raycast node! That's so cool!!! :)
Yeah, geometry nodes is so new that when I’d found it then read up a bit I was like, hey, this might work for crowds too...
great man
Thanks!
As someone who has no idea how to use animation software, this is like watching a magic trick being explained
You're hilarious - my favorite tutorials now.
Thanks so much Dave!
Wow Kev, you on a roll man...
Thanks PIXXO! I had to push while I had some time haha!
Love it !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
Thanks!
I remember seeing one of those "robo-brain spider bot" on one of boba Fetts trailer so at least there are those things.
HAHA, true!
BEAST
Thanks!
brilliant
Thanks!!
great job!
Thank you 😀
thats all i need to know to use blender, thanks for probobly the best tutorial out there. complete in its essence :D
Thank you!!
“Nasty hideous teethy thingys” 2:20
Hahaha 🥹
😁😁
Box modeling is the best modeling option in the world for me, it is my favorite way of modeling.
It’s mine too, as I’d been at it for a long time. Thanks!!
Looks great
Thanks Dreadnought. Awesome channel name btw!
Impressive. Most impressive.
You’ll find I’m full of surprises 😁
Holy shit this is super cool!
Thanks!!
The huge spider is really a huge bacteriophage!
It does! 😀
Scorpions are arachnids and have 8 legs just like spiders do. Most people know that Daddy Long Legs aren't spiders, but they do have 8 legs and are also arachnids.
They crawl all over my camping equipment lol.
I havent seen the mandalorian but I really like the creature, and I discovered a lot of useful trick to create my own spider creature, something that I will do in the future, thanks man! and about IK and rigging I will ask you some questions when I try to do it myself if I can
Awesome! It’s a fun show. IK is great and pretty simple to set up, and super useful for things like this.
@@KevBinge can I ask you my questions when I try this?
Sure. Reply here and I should see it.
really engaging comentary man! love this.
Thank you!!
Cool video! Let me offer an alternative way to animate the little ones. I've been playing around with BOIDS lately and think that would be perfect for the small spiders actually.
BOIDS are great but they won’t work inside geometry nodes yet. Not that the little ones “need” to be in geometry nodes, so boids would work well outside that setup, sure 😀. Thanks!
Another one I just have to try... TY
Awesome! Go for it Andrew 😀
Excellent 👍
Thanks!!
As long as I remember both spiders and octopods have creeped me the fuck out.
Me too.
It really worked ! i did this in only 12 minutes!
Awesome!!
Aaah, how would on know all that without tutorials like this?
Lots of trial and error lol.
That's art
Thanks!
Is it just me but as he was getting closer to finishing the spider I was looking on my ceiling, over my shoulder or just anywhere a spider would be
Not just you 😁
Wow you make all that look so easy 😅
Thanks!
ok this was the best Patreon anouncment i have ever heard...
Haha! Thanks!!
Noice mate, just noice.
Thanks for being noice 😀
amazing video
Thanks William!
"You know what else has 8 legs" Fucken demons..
Oh damn, you’re right lol!
should wait for the next threadripper that's supposed to be a prosumer chip. It's going to be similar to the release of the x1950 which i'm looking to upgrade from. I might just get the 7950 if they make a 3d version. 1Q23 release window. The 7950 is twice as fast as my x1950 threadripper in blender!
I think I've said it before but.....Your videos always remind me why I do love this 3d game so much. #work and have #fun
Thanks! I usually have fun doing 3D and have been lucky enough to make it a career, so most of the time, work is fun.
Thank y ❤️ u
You’re welcome 😀
Ok that Was cool, can you do now the saarlac pit?
I have that on the list lol.
The Krykna look more like a giant phage than a spider.
They do, actually.
I literally quitted rigging tutorial over this mirror armature thing some time ago, also ended up with just duplicating armature manually instead but it took way more time than it should. Nice to know I'm not the only one who struggled with it. What can have 8 legs? 2 of my cat, but I only have 1 at least until I open Schrödinger box because we don't really know how many cats are there inside.
Lol! It usually works but I screwed up the axis and oooops haha. You’re right on 2 cats lol, and until you open the box as the “observer,” you never know Hahahaha!
I was trying to do something like this a month or two ago and managed to make a very janky geometry node thing of marshmallow people crawling over a giant marshmallow person.
Stay-Puft? Lol. That’s awesome!!
man, im a last year biomedic stundent, now im regreating my choice cuz of u XD
HAHA! Seriously though, don't regret biomedical. You could use 3D in that field. Biomedicine is VERY important to humanity. You're on the right path.
the '#' symbol is a octothorp, btw. I hate twitter calling it hashtags.
Thanks! Now I know. More random stuff in my mind haha.
Demasiado rápido para aprender ..Gracias por tu aporte...
OP AF :D
Thanks!
HOW DO YOU DO THIS SO WELL!
Thanks, although I always know I can do better. I’ve been at this a while 😁
I miss the times of ancient text tutorials. Still nice video 😆
