I remember being in cosmo school. We started on men's cutting and my dad was my model. We were taught strictly clipper over comb. No guards. I was so scared I was going to screw it up because it's so close to the head and it seemed hard to hide a mistake. It took me a solid 18 months of doing only men's hair to feel like I could show up to work and tackle anything that sat in my chair with quality and precision. That's a long dang time lol but it was so worth it. I kind of wish I had gone to barber school instead, but I'm ok with not using a straight razor.
Aye I love all these helping hands under this post tryna help others get in the industry 💯. Young upcoming barber here can't wait to get my career started
Hey Sean, I’m about to do a video shoot in a barbershop and I’m worried about the audio. Specifically with the clippers and how to make sure everyone’s voice is clear. This video is probably the best example of keeping it pro and I’d appreciate if you can give me some tips.
This was a fun watch. The thing that I’ve noticed throughout the industry is a lack of detailed explanations of the fundamentals. This is why I was so blown away by your explanation of the purpose of the 1.5/.5 guard (different video). Keep up the great work.
i'm just passing my 2 months in barber school right now and i'm only here for only 1000 hours so it's flying by fast! thanks Sean your vids inspire and entertain me on my journey.
Are you doing full time or part time? I think the school I want to enroll in requires 1500 and I’ll be doing part time so I kinda wanted to estimate how long it would take me
Hey im from the Island of Madeira i started my barber course last week at the school im happy to do something new for my life. Im very happy hearing the new barbers experience and your advice. You should do more videos like this. ☝
Sean! What would u say to someone like me who been doing construction last 15 years and want to get out of it. I'm almost 38 but because of people like u I learned how to cut . I want to be a barber. Is it too late for me?
Sean thanks for the video!!! I am starting barber school soon. This helped with the questions I had in my head about school and kinda what to expect. Much appreciated!! Keep up with the videos I watch every single one!
I’m from Evansville and I went to rogers also. I have a shop in Clarksville Tennessee called Clipper Cave Barber Lounge.. tell him I said hold it down for Evansville 💈🫡💈
I'm from Australia and my barber school was 2 days a week for a year and I can say will all honesty I would never recommend it to anyone. Alot of money for very little support. Would recommend an apprenticeship over the school avenue.
How do your new barbers start with there prices? Do you decide? Like beginners from school do they get to pick their prices ? I’m asking bc I just opened a shop and it’s chair rental, but I had someone come in without any clientele and wanted to charge 40$ a cut even with walk ins, I had to let them go bc of many reasons but that was the one thing I really didn’t know how to do better as a boss. I have a full clientele and that’s why I charge my price but I feel beginners or no clientele should be cheaper to build there books.
We have a base shop price I have everyone start at. Once they go to appointments we have a starting price there as well. Then I just work with them if they want to raise their price
@@Seancutshair thank you! I think this would make for a great video, also how to get barbers to clean as well, I always hear “it’s chair rental so all I have to worry about is my chair” but I feel everyone should chip in. Hey Sean! I’m currently a barber in the Uk I have been working in a shop now for nearly a year it’s a small shop but super busy. We do commission here which is 50% the week just gone I cut 65 heads in a 5 day week and don’t get me wrong the money is good (£20 for a normal cut a little more for a skin fade) but I just can’t help but feel I’ve already hit a ceiling. Yeah commission isn’t something I’ve ever done but sounds rough. Imagine you were doing the same but paying chair rent you’d be making 30% more! I’d look into that or potentially raising prices. I don’t know if that’s an option or not.
