This Documentary is simply stupendous! It was a pleasure watch it and listen to the deep voice of a narrator who was very well informed about The Hellenistic Art.
What a wonderful film. Each piece, exquisite. Its as though they reach across the vast expanse of time and crack the door to their world, a world that we can never truly see. For to see the world as one from antiquity, one would have had to be born in that age. What wonderful gifts our ancestors have given us. These statues will stand as a testament to them for all time. They are the very definition of the word exquisite.
The Romans would pay small fortunes for classical and Hellenic art. They looked upon the work the way we now look at Renaissance art. Unfortunately not many have survived because they were bronzes. The ones that have survived are poorer marble copies made by Roman sculptors
The temple of Zeus was not destroyed by an earthquake ... It was destroyed by the Christians who after they had set fire to it they brought horses and ropes so as to bring down the pillars that the fire was not able to destroy .... The exhibition is awesome!!!!
The Riace bronzes are from the Classical age. That’s probably why they’re no mentioned in this video. Also, since they weren’t Hellenistic, they weren’t part of this exhibition at the Getty.
The Slavs - Skopians, that came in the arrea north of Macedonia - Hellas (Greece) around 6th century a.C., must see this film! Because they claim they are ... Macedonians!!!
Min 2:38 I believe ATG looked Mediterranean, NOT Scandinavian. The only true to fact representation of ATG is his portrait in the "Battle of Issus" mosaic (min 16:07) . An imitation of a Philoxenus of Eretria's painting from the 4th century BC (from Alexander's time).
Unbelievable . They look like an impression was made for the casting.
What a wonderful film. I enjoyed every minute of it.

I saw this exhibition in the Palazzo Strozzzi in Florence; one of the best exhibitions Ive ever visited. It gave me goosebumps.
Liev schreiber has a beautifully resonant voice. That man was born to be an actor and narrator

They removed the sculptures from the pediments first, smashed them and then buried the pieces…that’s why they survive
What a shame.
The Riace Bronzes????? Why are these two works ignored?

Amazing ... essential viewing
Wonderful video.

Hi, marvelous stuff. As for the music I hear Ravel and Debussy quotes, but what piece is it? Anyone?

ΑΙΩΝΙΑ ΕΛΛΑΣ !
does pater derive from pathos, like a patriarch, like a male dominated society? DO you know that?
