  • Ever looked at the incredible Severn Valley Railway stations and wondered how they're maintained, kept in perfect period condition?
Then look no further than Philip Chatfield - the SVR's resident stonemason.
When he's not working all over the world, Philip returns to Shropshire and Worcestershire to craft all sizes of masonry from a variety of natural materials.
Philip works hard to maintain that unique heritage look, working from original drawings and plans to keep our stations, from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, exactly as they would over a century ago.
In this short film, we'll find out about Philip's role on the Severn Valley Railway, tour both Arley, Hampton Loade and Bridgnorth, take a look at Philips current project and much, much more.

How lucky you are to have Philip, with all of his experience, as your resident stone mason. This is a really atmospheric video.

To see the floral pot reinstated at Arley was a delight - A tribute both to Philip's stonemason talent and Station Master George's horticultural achievements.

Love these behind the scenes videos. The hard work and dedication that goes into keeping the railway atmosphere alive is incredible, and perhaps often underappreciated. As with great movies you can get distracted by the big stars, but if you look a little closer there is so much more to see.

I back in 2020 before the lockdown I was watching the work going on at Bewdley Station and it was amazing to see how intricate and beautiful his work was.
