It is good to see older locomotives recycled rather than be scraped
Same here!
@@raymondleggs5508 the same did happen in Germany..
It's amazing to think if they see another 30 years service they will be 70 years old at the end of it.
Scrapped
100%
Class 69? Nice!
Nice
Nice
Nice.
Niceeeee!
@SpeedbirdConcorde Have you ever been to the United States?
How many times did Bob go "nice" to himself every time he heard the TOPS classification?
if they don't name one "NICE" i'll be really annoyed
No,no,no its NOICE ;)
@@aidanbryanquilloy2879 surely it would be eyyy69420lmaoo 🥱
@@nyan525 if they get to a 69/4 then that would be a surprise anyway
Well they probably won't call them Bryans (in reference to Bryan Adams Summer of 69) as that nickname has been applied to Class 31s...
Well done Seven Valley Railway & GBRf to produce this video. This is the first video of Class 69 on test to go public. Thank you for producing it.
Thank you for watching! www.svr.co.uk
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial Trials are also done at my railway, see www.selfkantbahn.de
@@class8866 So you had some narrow gauge class 69 there on the SKB? Wowwowwow. How interesting. Tell me more.....
Ahemmm... You didnt drink too much TrumpCoolAid, did you?
@@pearlyhumbucker9065 No, we had narrow gauge diesel locos, mining equipment , two way lorries.. If you think of the class 69, then take the narrow class engine of the Brohltalbahn...already in service...see D 5 in vulkan-express.de/die-brohtalbahn/fahrzeuge, it is a diesel hydraulic engine..
A good information video which only people interested in railways along with enthusiasts are going to watch! Sadly, one important thing that people watching the video is to HEAR the Class 69 actually working, it would only need to be about 20/30 seconds in length but not a chance and a wasted opportunity.
It'll sound just like a 66 - not worth writing home about!
Probably sounds like a SD40/2 ;-)
Just a 66 underneath. Days are gone when the V16 music would dominate the railway line pulling long coal trucks.
Love it.
Keeping them out of the scrapyard, is always a good thing.😁.
A very 'nice' loco indeed....
Jokes aside it looks great, looking forward to hopefully seeing them in action
Funny number
Omg! This is amazing! Its a great way to improve and reuse mainline locos while helping to support Heritage Railways! Keep being amazing GB Railfreight and Severn Valley Railway!
Glad you enjoyed the video, Chris. We've loved working with GBR Railfreight and Electro-Motive Diesel Limited
It's also about saving money reusing old locomotive bodies that would otherwise be scrapped, whilst experimenting with new fuel efficient engines. All very laudable. Reuse, recycle, repurpose, renovate, restore...
You asked, we listened... and now you can listen to the Class 69 in our BONUS footage from the testing days with GBRf and Electro-Motive Diesel Limited! ruclips.net/video/61xIzDTygW0/видео.html
Nice.
Thanks, that was the only part missing!
Very good to see the old 56 reused, great insight, and coup for the SVR to get work as a test track!
Glad you enjoyed the video! :) We loved working on this project
Great co-op between Heritage & the Railway Industries.Awesome locomotive.Well done to all involved.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike
Great to see the classic EMD pedestal cab back in favour after the back-ache inducing desks.
Basically an EMD 66 in a 56 body
Very neat to see a newly rebuilt locomotive for regular service being tested at a preserved railway. Something that would hardly ever be done in America
The link between GBRF and the Class 50 Alliance is now paying off for all three parties concerned. Brilliant bit of business from the C50A group.
The first time I ever saw a Class 56 was Peterborough Station in (I think) 1976, hauling a heavy stone or MGR train from the direction of Ely North towards the line to Melton Mowbray. I'm delighted to see some of them receiving a new lease of life.
Great to see the 69 loco making it’s debut run on the seven valley railway
We loved testing it for GBRf and Electro-Motive Diesel Limited
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial I know
can't wait for the 420th Class 69 to enter service
It was a special treat seeing the original class 56's on the South London network, especially on the Catford loop line and at Hither Green. Along with the class 92's probably my favourite freight loco.
Can't WAIT to see the 69's in action. I hope they are very successful and we see a lot more of them rather than just the initial first batch order...
Still the spirit of Brush lives on - side grilles remind me of Falcon
What's old is new again. Utterly brilliant.
Fantastic to hear recycling rather than scrapping - and in the UK too!
Been years since I was on the Severn Valley , it's amazing the GM power units are taking over now , the EM 2000 computer is in our 201s. GM have been on the Irish Rail system since 1961 and in 1968 the Metropolitan Vickers Crossley engined A and C class locos were re-engined with GM power units following the disastrous problems with the Crossley engine.
What's with the thumbs down people? This is a great project, well done to GBRF, EM and SVR.
Fantastic video letting us see the new class 69 in action. Shame we couldn't here her at full tilt lol 😂 John Smith has rejuvenated the rail freight of Great Britain and hopefully they'll achieve a lot more and clear up our motorways of heavy lorries 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie.
It’s nice to see something you’ve had a hand in building being used. Longport’s finest
Ladies, Gentlemen, LOVE IT.
Absolutely love it.
Sitting at my work now looking fantastic in British rail green with lion and roundel
Much better than the GENSET practice in ththe US where they get rid of the original carbody so the only thing original left is the frame and bogies!
thankfully, those are dying fast.
The Class 50s look awesome in the GBRf livery, Its great to see old British locomotives still working today.
We can't wait to see the Class 69 in GBRf livery!
Great video, Big thanks to everyone in preserving the class 56 and bringing to back to become the class 69 locomotive.
Thanks for watching!
Really great, I think the classic look should never go away. I know the Steam Engines are not too practicle to run due to operating expense. But they should always be used in the Tourist Trade. Steam is my favorite anyway. I hope more of the older style trains will be used in the future. They are truly beautiful.
Look forward to seeing that on the network, Team GB leading the way
Plus ElectroMotive 😉
Amazing to see what you are doing in the UK with the older locos. Here on the continent our companies are getting rid of diesels at a fast rate, BLS/crossrail whom I work for just bought a load more new Siemens Vectons. Our 66s are just on a select few trains and shunting duties. In many places the 66s aren’t liked anymore because of pollution norms, especially Germany. Each 66 that comes to end of lease seems to be heading to the UK.
Absolutely brilliant it's always nice to a older loco getting a make over I grown up seeing the class 56 doing freight workings and has been a shame that they only are a few around nowadays. I wish companies would do the same with other British classes like my all time favourite class 58s we have seen a far few class 60s revamped witch is awesome. Good luck with this class 69 can't wait to see her all painted up.
Wow amazing work to you all and great for heritage
Thank you :) Don't forget to subscribe to ensure you don't miss any of our future videos.
I was so sceptic of these trains at first. I mean mixing a 56 with a 66 is just so wrong in so many ways. But when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I am so glad we can keep seeing more of the 56s ( kinda) for longer.
I saw this loco today being moved into to Eastleigh works!! The astute hearing of my partner alerted me to something coming down the line as we walked away from a bridge. I turned back and saw this beauty being ushered along by a pair of 66's. It's safe to assume I lost mind.
Subbed purely off this video. Great work.
Awesome, thank you!
One word. Brilliant. I enjoyed this.

Resto-mod railway style - excellent!
It would be good if they could do a similar overhaul to the 60s.
Yup,and class 58s as well, the class 60s and 58s are still relatively modern traction considering, and to be honest, they look much better than the American or Canadian locos.
Haven’t the 60s essentially had a major overhaul? The ‘Super’ 60.
Sure I’ve read that a company is looking at the 58s.
Great video of a very interesting project, nice to see the 56 saved for future use rather than being cut up. Well done to all involved
I like the look of this train. Nice to see it working well and new motors.
Well done S.V.R.
Thank you very much!
Great stuff i just wish someone would film the conversion proses as that would be a 1st and very interesting.
Interesting, and a very professionally-made video.
Good decision behind using the Graham-White (Wabtec) 975 Air Dryers. They're solid performers that will keep your tanks and lines clear!
Wabtec. Are they any thing to do with SABWabco?
@@excossack more than likely. WABCo turned into Wabtec around the beginning of the 2000s
@@thetrainshop I left SAB Wabco 1999.
Wow, this is all good news, well done to GBRF and the Severn Valley Railway.
@SevernValleyRailway brilliant video and looks like the section of line was the perfect location for testing. Cant wait to see it in GBRf Livery
Glad you enjoyed it! We can't wait to see it in full livery either.
A new powerhouse re-born in a new guise, should be at least as good as the class 56 was, possibly better if it turns out right.
Far better looking than any class 66 shed too.
Good luck to them.
Brilliant. Made in Great Britain, a brand new (ish) classic looking diesel loco. British ingenuity at it's very best.
The engine and software are American.
Lol when he said clean emmisions and good fuel economy, i thought he is talking of some modern 2021 Tier IV diesel Engines, and not oldschool EMD 710 2-Stroke ones...
You are not supposed to know that the 710 has been replaced in the US by Caterpilar engines that are 4 stroke and thus meet the new tier compliance requirements, that class 69 arf arf would be classed a rebuild on tier credits in the US
British built loco with the reliable EMD 710 2 stroke. Sounds like a winner. Cracking little taster video of the 69, any chance of seeing some of the trials?
Excellent video, great story!
Interesting project, great choice of engine the 710 is bombproof and will run forever.
Very slick vid but is it asking too much to just set aside 30 seconds for us to hear the loco?
Stay tuned!
You asked, we listened... and now you can listen to the Class 69! ruclips.net/video/61xIzDTygW0/видео.html
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial very cool
Shame about the intrusive music. It would have been nice to actually hear the loco!
Just think 'ying ying ying....'
There's another video on our channel where you can hear the Class 69 fully :)
Hear the engine of a class 66
Basically a 66. So, characterless and inoffensive.
You can see the 47 style much more now the front has been smoothed and modernised, almost like a 57. I’m glad to see this happening with older stock.
Want something even more exciting? We need someone to rebuild a Kestrel from a Class 47. Same later bogies & grandfather rights. An original engine still exists in France apparently used as a standby generator.
Nice to see the preservation lines being part of the railway industry mainstream.
Nice
Still miss that Rushton growl!
Great video. Good subject.
great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great to see BGRf using the SVR during the Covid interruption in services.
CONvid more like !
I hope that something could be done with the unused Class 60's that maybe some of those could be repurposed for other work. The comfort of the Class 60 combined with the reliability of the innards used on the Class 66 would make the ex-Class 60's another ideal repurposing project. Maybe they could be reclassified as a Class 61 or a Class 62? Could someone pass this idea onto GBRF for consideration please?
i would believe that thought is going on right now!!!
@@rearspeaker6364 Fingers crossed mate and I really hope so. Let's hope something positive comes out of it. Although EMD 66's may not be appreciated now because they are so many but EMD's are very reliable and are less prone to breaking in service. Unlike the Sulzer and English Electric engines. Sure if one wanted to spice up an EMD unit and make it scream like a Paxman Valenta. A low-overpass turbo would take care of that problem and EMD re-purposed ex-Class 60's is fine with me. If HEP is required for passenger work for example, maybe another engine to drive the generator like the Cummins Qsk19 could work for that as I believe the EMD 710T3i (or whatever its known as now) is smaller than the existing Mirrlees Blackstone MB275T and lighter as well and having a separate unit for HEP will not stress out the EMD power units.
It's nice to see the UK Rail Industry doesn't just love the Class 66.
Nice.
Can't wait to see it in GBRf livery
Same here!
Gran locomotiva y buen vídeo 👍🎞️♥️
Hmm I wonder if the DRS class 37 fleet might get an upgrade similar to this... it would mean that we would have to say goodbye to the old Thrash but it would still live on in Train Simulator!
You could use an 6 zylinder version of the 12 zylinder GE GEVO engine used in the american ES44 locomotives.
Would sound great and appropriate for a class 37 tractor i think, lots of displacement, low rpm und few cylinders ;)
There is a proposal somewhere to “hybridise” a Class 08 shunter, with a 37 as a possibility too.
Class 69 nice
Brilliant idea and well done GBrf!
Why do I have a feeling that this locomotive will be popular with teens?
It’s a Nice class
Must not giggle every time someone says 69 😂
who doesn't giggle to 69
Nice
@@c3gfboy7 And it's only 30 off 99 !
All we need now is an eco friendly engine that fits inside a 58 body then we can lots more classic traction instead of wall to wall sheds. Looking forward to seeing the 69's in traffic.
that's a EMD, of course!!
The class 58 has such a small body shell, considering they had issues getting the emissions equipment in the 66s I think getting it fitted to a 58 is sadly wishful thinking
@@thomasthornton2002 Yes, Thomas I agree but with so many 58's rotting away it is sad we won't see them working again. I think we all know there eventual fait.
@@thomasthornton2002 have to "bulge" the shell a bit to make it fit.and the 12-710 engine alone is almost 5 short tons heavier too, without the alternator. that also means the new class 69 is heavier too.
It would have been nice to hear what the Engine sounded like, but it looks supurb even without the GBRF livery
Video here: ruclips.net/video/61xIzDTygW0/видео.html&lc=UgzLQ6SJCFzm5DgQgeZ4AaABAg
Because this worked so well with the Class 57s (formerly Class 47s) that they've been nothing but trouble for GWR.
Only reason they converted 56 is because they can't build any more Cl 66's but they can fit a Cl66 power unit in a 56
Fascinating stuff! Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hopefully they name this "Cheeky".
Or "nice"
Hello svr
Well done on another brill video and what a brilliant partnership you have with gbrf look forward to seeing this class of loco motive on the mainline.
Can't wait til April to be able to come back for our visit.
The clarke family
Bob Tiller took a forty-year-old British locomotive, put a thirty-year-old American engine with accessories in it and feels pride as if he dug the Suez Canal with his own hands. A good and economical idea, I admit, but I wouldn't show Class 69 as evidence of UK power.
If the 69's prove reliable enough then hopefully some can be used as locomotives in passenger service with probably redundant Mark 4 coaches soon!
they have no ETS and are limited to 80mph, so that wont happen
@@thetrainsrock Ok 🙂.
No. Purely freight.
Would need generator coach as 56 has no ETS.
Perhaps some EMD repurposed ex-Class 60's would be better for that. One there is more room for a HEP power pack to be installed and if reclassified as something like a Class 61/62 project and if uprated to 95mph. They could work the CS trains in the non-electrified parts of Scotland and charters/rescue and hire work would pay for itselfs. Two, that would give GBRF some more repurposed locos that would have HEP for passenger cars. Well GBRF own 60008/014/018 that could become 62001/2/3 as test pilots and they would fit well alongside their ten Class 60's and their fleet of Class 92's.
Enjoy the video thanks very much.
nice
Thanks
Nice and all, but for freight trains, you can't beat the BR Standard 9F.
Cant wait to see it with its knickers on,has it got a nickname yet, might call it a "Squid" as its a shapeshifter. 🤣
This was in my recommended. I guess it knows my number culture
Eyyy! Class “69”!
This is where the 60s will be very useful. I hope someone realizes this
As an American rail fan British Locomotives looks way different than American locomotives!
it's kinda funny as BR originally did take inspiration from American locomotives (the Class 40 for example and how earlier BR diesels had doors on their cab ends like on many American diesels) that lasted for a few years then they changed their minds about the designs
I really like the Grey, looks well tough.
I was thinking just that. Leave them grey and name them after WW tank designs.
Yeah, we thought that! But it will look even better in GBRf livery.
Well all they got to do is paint the cabs all round yellow and have the big white BR sign on the side and it will be BR railfreight again
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial no I don't think it will
Nice video ,good to see Heritage and GBRF working together for a mutual target , next get some of the redundant 60s re-engineered also
It's been great working with GBRf and Electo-Motive Diesel Limited on this project! So glad you enjoyed the video
Great story! Are the traction motors dc?
excellent news
Excelent the grid rides again whan you think of how many have been cut up ....
To anyone disappointed about the lack of engine sound on this video, just repeat ‘Ming ming Ming’ to yourself when the loco is idling. When pulling away at maximum throttle try turning the washing machine onto full spin...
Why don’t GBRf refurbish some 37s like Rail Operations Group and get some decent locos in the fleet??
Class 66 sound is 'Ying Ying' (not MIng MIng) sound which is what you are referring too but still be nice to hear especially after going throught the effort of producing a video for it!
I'll miss the Class 56 when they're all gone.
But they won’t be all gone
Well Done!
Out of interest what camera/lens do you shoot with?
