    I am hitting a wall when trying to get 10 laps in a 25 meter pool, my coordinator says I'm holding my breath, but even with concious effort i still find myself pausing my breathe as well as water going up my nose.

      Update: Just pushed through and did my 500 meter css I didn't have a timer, but I believe it was sub-10 minutes.

      Most likely a conditioning issue BUT YES there is a breathing technique in swimming: exhale underwater after the kick - turn your head with the top arm pull - breathe during the bottom arm pull

      Do you breathe out underwater with each stroke?

    Didn't realize for quite some time I was doing the elementary ss

    I thought the elementary SS had less moving parts. But looking at this comparison, doesn’t look like there’s much difference at all…aside from some technique/form tweaks.
    Bottom vid the guy is definitely not raising his top leg knee towards the chest. And he doesn’t turn fully back to flat on his glide segment.
    I wonder what they’re strokes/length count comparison was.

      This video was put together because the person who submitted it thought he was doing the combat swimmer stroke when he is actually doing the version of an elementary side stroke. Many people do not know the difference.

      @@snowstorm504 The CSS has a different glide position. Both hands are overhead in a streamline body glide. The top arm pull is very much like the Freestyle catch. And the bottom arm is like a Breaststroke scull. The glide is faster and longer and therefore more efficient.
      The elementary sidestroke has a top arm push (half the stroke) that is time to almost with the kick and a much less efficient glide position with one hand extend it over the head in the other down by the side.
      You stay on your side in the side stroke and you can if you prefer roll over on your belly during the glide phase of the CSS.

    • @StewSmith182
      @StewSmith182  Год назад +8

      @@snowstorm504 The stroke sequence for the CSS is: top arm, bottom arm/inhale, kick/arm recovery, glide for 2 to 3 seconds….repeat
      The stroke sequence for the Elementary side stroke is: bottom arm pull, Top arm push and kick, hold that glide position (bottom arm extended /top arm at side)…repeat.

    Hello sir, I have been in contact with my recruiter and he suggested I contact you. I was wondering if I could get help with my PSTs and drown proofing/ dive phase tests unfortunately I couldn’t find a way to email or contact you.

    Practicing the CSS right now. Is it technically legal to perform a breaststroke instead of the streamlined triangle with the hands? I do this because I tend to sink and therefore don't glide. Any recommendations to fix this or is the breaststroke, mid stroke, okay?

    • @StewSmith182
      @StewSmith182  Год назад +2

      I need to see it. I am not sure what you are asking. You can do breast stroke or css/sidestroke

      Are you saying you sink when you enter the streamlined glide part and you would rather go into a breast stroke to keep yourself up? You should spend time and go to a swim coach, even if you do it breast stroke, you're likely expending way too much energy and if you're doing navy stuff, you'll have to get out of the water and then do pushups and chinups.. if you just used your chest and shoulders to do all the swimming you're gonna be exhausted. A few things to try, worke on core muscles so you can keep your hips up, and work on breathing, you don't need to empty your lungs, you'll be breathing every stroke, so blow out like a whistle to stop you exhaling too much, then breath in. You can keep your lungs like 80 percent full. Look down while gliding too. You should 100 percent go to a coach and spend some money on it. This is an almost effortless stroke, and being able to do it will be amazing for you...
      The main points to take from this video is you don't transition to a full glide in a side stroke, and you don't add in flutter kicks to a side stroke. The flutter kicks happen to help you rotate
