Thanks CarNut, I like your genuine reviews. Ive got a VF Calais V and I think its the best one they have ever made and Ive had the VB SLE, VK Calais. They have all been great cars but they had issues, except the VF Commodore. The thing for me is basically made in Australia. Now that Commodore is an imported model, there is no affiliation to buy one. There are currently so many good imported models to buy, that when I am ready to buy my next car, Commodore wont be my only preference and at least I wont feel guilty not buying one. hehe!
Good vid, great to get a Kiwi’s opinion. I’m sure they’ll be a reasonable drive and all the good which are expected nowadays but they still should’ve called it something else but I’m slowly getting over myself and will have to check one out at some point. Still have love for the VF though.
None of my Commodores were perfect. Some were better than others. But they were Commodores. This is something else. Where will I go? I'll carefully keep my VF2 SS Redline for special occasions for the rest of my life and my daily drive will be whatever boring imported car is affordable and serves my needs. But I don't think I'll feel as strongly about a car again.
White with black roof and boot lip and grill/vent surrounds and badging (I like the chrome too). My grandfather sold Holdens way back. He even went to the launch event of the FJ in Sydney. Watching him bring home the latest models over the years was exciting. The Kingswoods were some of my favourites. Keep up the good work.
I have the VFII Clubby, this year ended up going with Kia and bought the Stinger - an amazing car and keeps up with the V8 not a problem. The Euro Holden looks ugly this will be the death of the Commy. I tested one a month ago and to tell you the truth the Kia is light years ahead and sadly it lacks the Commodores essence.
Holden Commadore died with th vf2 mate. My first car was an EH S/W loved it and owned many Holden's since...but no more. Holden has betrayed it's factory workers and to those who have supported the marquee . The Kia Stinger is a much better, and honest brand which I will move too after my current vf2. Goodbye Holden it's been great up to this year.
The biggest joke is that they called it a commondore when the ZB is front wheel drive biased and the rear only kicks in when needed, and not constant all wheel drive. I took a ZB for a test drive only to go back to the dealer within the first 5minutes. It feels really small inside, i felt like i was being squashed in thanks to the rear of the roof having a very steep angle to it. Also that cheap engine noise coming through the speakers is so off putting i have no idea why car makers do shitty things like this. So for $60k aus i bought my self a VF2 SSV Redline Motorsport and loving it, it will be my first and last Holden i buy. If you want a good car that is 6cyl buy a Liberty, so much better car for a lot less, and it's constant all wheel drive and not some bullshit claimed all wheel drive like the vxr is.
Nice review and all but can we stop pointing out the superior tech as if it's a surprise? VF2 in most cases was a super mild update of the 2013 VF because Holden knew Australian made Commodores were dead by 2014 and gave up. I'd be really shocked if a car being sold in 2018 (now 2019) didn't have more tech in it than one from 2013. It's hardly a valid criticism against a model from 2013.
For a front wheel drive a Camry is much better. Front wheel drive won't get up a lot of Sydney driveways in the wet. Fine if you live on a flat block and never want to get off the bitumen.
First congratulations to David for keeping all that marketing fluff in his head. Second it makes absolutely no sense to use that as a reason to rebadge an Insignia. I don't think Holden did the car any favours by trying to trade on the Commodore name. I'm sure the entire GMH marketing team winced when you took a breath and said it will be where you are sitting if you are a fleet driver, because truth is that is probably this cars real market in Australia and NZ.
Daniel Dacey I agree with you, they did it zero favours calling it a commodore. People that otherwise may have tried it won’t for that simple reason if they are in any ways an avid commodore fan or existing driver.
*Commodore died with the VF* I really hoped to see the Commodore VF lineup go worldwide with all the different specs and shapes, but then GM decided to kill the best car that bridged the gap between a soulless car and a thrilling sportcar! And you guys at Holden and CarNut.kiwi undermine the significance that the VF had as an australian car. I never got to see one because of where I live, and I'm not even from Australia, but I really think you guys can burn, because this is no fcking Commodore!
Hi Jan. I think you might be confusing your Commodores a little. The Aussie built VF has been widely celebrated on this channel as watching any of the videos in the Redline SS-V Will prove. I even stumped up my own money to buy one. And they did very well for themselves in the USA as the SS with those who found out about them and drove/bought one. So get your facts straight friend. The ZB Commodore is the model that draws the venom out of Holden fans. That is the car that Holden has decided to finish up.
All these negative comments tells me that people never like change. I've owned a number of Crummydoors over the years and they weren't the best car on the market by any means. I haven't seen one of these new ones in the flesh, but they look modern and seem to be well built. However I agree that the marketing dept shouldn't call these a Commodore. A new car needs a new name.
"All these negative comments tells me that people never like change" You mean people don't like having things they like unnecessarily taken from them for no reason.
Initial thought is the tourer wagon looks to be the one to get and Aussie road tests show the VXR is not a performance car with a fairly ordinary 0-100 time. Door lock buttons? What the, what the..... haven’t seen those for a long time and after being a kilometre hungry rep for many years hate them with a passion as they get in the way of hanging your arm out the window on hot motorway crawls!
@CarNut .kiwi: more than one Aussie review complaining about that 9 speed auto on the VXR. Sounds like at best it is poorly calibrated for a ‘performance’ vehicle - at worst maybe mechanically flawed. Will you have a chance to ‘track’ the car in the week you have it? If not, can you at least use the paddles in anger (on closed roads of course) as part of your report. Hopefully you are free to say what you like, and don’t have to fear being blacklisted by a manufacturer if you are not wholly positive...
As an update, while I was ordering my new work vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Navara ST-X, I had the chance to have a good look at the new Commie range and especially the Wagon VXR which as far as features and looks go is a winner imho. Whether they sell in numbers great enough to justify the continuation of the Commodore badge is the real question.
It's like the Chinese making our paddle pops with powdered milk. Just wont be the same. Bathurst was about Australian cars, that's all gone. So put the name to rest for us please its done, we get it. We do not want the bratwurst 3000.
As you said in one of your other videos right car wrong badge I am sure it’s a fairly good car in regards to quality and feel but to compare it a Aussie built car with the v8 this new commodore I think will always be chasing its tail to me I can’t even look at the piece of shit from any angle but great vidieo mate well done 👍
Great video though love your redline reviews alot and would like to see you driving your awesome blue redline while comparing it to these new bland souless cars that are sure to be a failure
slimy holden spokeman in the back seat. Wow asshole holden is gon,, but i just bought the tourer v wagon super cheap as you can only give them away now. Great car love this opal, and what do you mean by the vomitt option???
Ticks all the boxes you are off your nut look's shit overpriced compared to the SV6.best thing about this car is that if you have a VF or VE you have the better Commodore not to mention the more sortafter car in the future.
The best car to be badged Commodore. People who complain it's not a real Commodore are dinosaurs
The fact that its called a Commodore is a joke.. will never touch one of these... Great video anyway..
Switch007 good don't one fool

Add a twin turbo option to the V6 with a manual gearbox and you will get my attention.
Damn, that tyre noise!

i plan to test drive one even as a loaner for the day.i normally drive a spark but this is something if i want a good holden i will give a try.
Different vibe once they lost the Holden dude from the back seat lol!

great review of sadly a car not worthy of its badge name, cheers guys
So much better than the watered down regal gs we get. Vxr has a better edge to is design, wheels, paddle shifters and throatier exhaust.

3:45 - it's the vibe, it's ...mabo, and … yeah it's the vibe..
In my in opinion i think it should not be call "Commordore" Commordores r V8 (most of them)
We have bought one , and it is a great car , heaps of power and great economy
Probably not a bad car, it’s just not a commodore
yeah, name it something else and folks would not blow it off.

Holden built a Camry. Wouldn't want to own a Holden dealership. About the same future as owning a video store.....
Nice review and all but can we stop pointing out the superior tech as if it's a surprise? It’s unfortunate that they don’t get made here anymore so if you want a Aussie commodore you’ll just have to settle for an older one
Thanks again Blu 👍🏻

The top spec version should have had at least a twin turbo set up
I still think Insignia is a better name.

100% agree

Not a commodore, plain and simple. You were crazy to call it a commodore, make no mistake about it.
Shit! you owned a " number of crummydoors over the years ". Man holden sucked you good. If I thought a car was crap I definitely wouldn't by one.
"All these negative comments tells me that people never like change"

Can hardly hear from all the road noise in the cab
What a sad day for Australian motoring
Shutup
Great review but boycot the car and we will get a vf3

That’s not a commodore that’s a shitbox
Not at all.
