Not knowing who he's playing is the best thing Levy has ever done for his chess, he plays so much better without the pressure of knowing who he's up against. Doesn't overthink his moves anywhere near as much.

The best thing Levy has done for his chess is return to OTB classical. No way he would've done anything like this without starting there.

@@music-zv6je I'm implying that the training process Levy went trough because of his return to OTB has enabled him to play at this high level, not that the OTB itself did.

Translated Ian's comments from his stream during the game:
"Oh, Levi Rozman. He's almost a grandmaster, isn't he? A famous chess player, probably the most famous chess player now. Not like us."
"e5, c5? What is he usually plays?”
    "g6? I don't know this move."
After e5: "Yes, I probably shouldn't have done that, I let him develop pieces and improve his position.”
"Bishop c2? Looks like I won't be able to save this game, it's already clear.”
"I'll make a Bishop d1 move. I don't want to give up yet."
"I really don't want to resign, but I guess I'll have to.”
"Let's go knight to b7. At least we won't suffer for free."
"Well, it turns out the chess players of different classes have met. It's hard to beat him."
After rook b2. "Okay, now I should be in a better position."
After g6: "Blunder rook b4.” (Shakes his head) "Oh, my God. I have no words for it."
"Instead of an easily won game, now it's going to be a hard one. Why did I do all this?"
"What the hell is going on? But still, we have an equal position... That's dumb."
After king g7: "Okay, it's important to get out of a fork, even future grandmaster Levi Rozman would agree."
After losing a pawn on h2: "What an annoying guy."
"He certainly plays this game brilliantly. If I lose, I won't be surprised."
"I'd hate to do it, but I guess I'm gonna lose. Jeez, what's going on?"
"The guy easily out-blitzed me. So effortless."
    After the game:
"Is it me that bad, or is he that brilliant?"
"At some point he started playing really well. Or perhaps I'm just out of shape. Maybe it's both."
    "There's a lot of shame, isn't there?"
    After analyzing the game:
"Yeah, it's such a historic shame, that happens."
"Losing to an amateur is frustrating, what can I say?"

      @jasperray6576 2 дня назад +1

True, but it also seemed a bit like he kept saying "I considered this move" for every time there was a better move to be made - if he considered it, why didn't he play it? It feels like he lacks the humility to sometimes say "I didn't play the best move, but I played a good sequence regardless"

    • @Matty_14
      @Matty_14 2 дня назад +17

@@jasperray6576 I mean, at that level you take into consideration many moves, and with all probability most of the times the best move is among them. The real difficulty it's not finding the move (unless it's a particular complicated move or situation, like a puzzle or something) but determining which one among the moves you considered is the best. It's pretty obvious that if he didn't play a move it's because he thought that there was something better, he shouldn't even explain that.

"e5, c5? What is he usually plays? ”

    "I'll make a Bishop d1 move. I don't want to give up yet. "
"I really don't want to resign, but I guess I'll have to " (Visibly upset )
"Let's go knight to b7. At least we won't suffer for free."
"Well, it turns out the chess players of different classes have met. It's hard to beat him. " (Ironizes at his bad game)
After rook b2. "Okay, now I should be in a better position." (Cheered up)
After g6 immediately realized the mistake. “Blunder rook b4 .” (Shakes his head) " Oh, my God. I have no words for it."
" Instead of an easily won game, now it's going to be a hard one. Why did I do all this?"
"What the hell is going on? But still, we have an equal position... That's dumb." (Talking about his game)
After king g7. "Okay, it's important to get out of a fork, even future grandmaster Levi Rozman would agree". (Making fun of himself rather than Levi.)
After losing a pawn on H2. " What an annoying guy. "
"He certainly plays this game brilliantly. If I lose, I won't be surprised".
"I'd hate to do it, but I guess I'm gonna lose. Jeez, what's going on?"
"The guy easily out-blitzed me. So effortless."
    After the game.
"Is it me that bad, or is he that brilliant?"
" At some point he started playing really well. Or perhaps I'm just out of shape. Maybe it's both. "
    "There's a lot of shame, isn't there?"
After analyzing the game and seeing all mistakes. "Yeah, it's such a historic shame. That happens."
"Losing to an amateur is frustrating, what can I say." ( It sounds a little less rude in Russian. As an amateur, anyone for whom sport is not their main occupation. We usually use the word “dilettante” for a insult. But if you want, amateur can also be used as an insult in this context.)
