This was a very quick and simple cake and video. If you have never made a 3D cake before please try this one. Very simple and looks the part. Makes any special occasion better.

:) thank you. I'm not to sure if cake and mints go together but they looked the part :)
EyeSea DoughNuts Your right, that doesn't sound like a great combo, but It looked Awesome
EyeSea DoughNuts ū
Love that cake how came out and the mints idea was awesome. I have a question if I want to do that exact cake for 30 people what size pan I will need. Thank you 😊
Mercedes Rosa hello and thank you for your comment.
The cake in the video uses a 6 inch cake pan.
For 30 people I suggest using an 8 inch pan. You will also need to go up another level. 3 to 4 layers of cake.
The bigger size will allow you to use a larger bottle.
I hope this helps. :)
Thank you for your response. Just for make sure I got it right I will need a 8, 6 and 4 size pan . Thank you
Mercedes Rosa what I would do is make all 8 inch and trim at an angle. 8 to 6 to 4 might be too steep. Risk of collapse.
Amazing..❤️❤️ how did u stick the bucket handle ?
Shital Agarwal thank you. At the time I only used a dab of water. But I would now recommend a dab of vodka.
The alcohol evaporates very fast leaving no alcohol on the cake which provides a fast and stronger bond
@@EyeSeaDoughNuts cool thanks 👍
I am new to cake making and have made some really nice cakes. I have very limited experience in using rods. I have read all your responses and unclear as to whether or not you used a rod or not. I did not see it in the video. I did see the thin cake board in the middle and I did notice a whole in the middle. How did you make the whole? And did I understand you correctly when I read I could use lollipop sticks to hold this up? I'm going to make a 10 inch cake like this to serve 30 people for my best friends birthday.
toby ferguson hello :)
The hole in the middle has been used with a cookie cutter in one of the layers.
Thin board in the middle is support with cake pop sticks. These are thin plastic rods but you could use wooden dowels or straws.
When you stack the cake half way stop and push in 4 sticks equally apart. Cut off at the height of the cake. Place a thin cake board on top and continue stacking cake.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more questions :)
what air spray your using?
Hello - spectrum flow airbrush and paints :)
Hi I love this idea, going to do one for my friends 30th. Did you say that you used boards and rods to hold the cake in place? If so how many please? Could this cake be done without them? Thanks 😊
Heather Thackray Hello. The cake is small and only 2.5 cakes tall. It should be fine without any support.
I like to add the support as I needed to transport the cake.
It only needs a thin board in the middle with 4 sticks.
If you don't need to move it very much you should be ok leaving it as is.
EyeSea DoughNuts did you also use rods or just a board under the top layer? Thanks
Heather Thackray one board in the middle. With straws, cake pop sticks or bamboo skewers to hold it up.
If your making a thick cake you shouldn't need anything but you will for a light sponge
What is your cake recipe - it seemed perfect for carving. I am hoping to make this cake next week, please share! lol. Also, did you ice the layers inbetween the stacked 6 inch cakes?
Alesya Bartella hello Alesya. You have hit the nail on the head. The cake recipe I use is ideal for carving.
It is a Madeira cake.
9oz self raising flour
6oz butter or margarine
6oz caster sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1floz of milk
Mix like you would any normal cake. You will need to double the recipe for this cake if I remember correctly:).
I butter creamed and jam between each sponge, I did not cut the sponge in half to ice.
I would really like to see your cake once it's done. I hope it all goes well and this has helped :)
Thanks so much! Looking forward to it. Will definitely do!
Wow, I'm making a keg barrel for grooms cake and was loosing my mind on how to make the ice! Thank you!!!
Oh yea, what size was the cake and how many bags of candy did you use?!
Thank you for your help 😊
Heather Thackray no problem 😍
How many bags of mints did you use?
sami D one bag but if I made it again I would use two. :)
How long will the ice cubes last on the cake? Without it being in the fridge?
For days, depending on the humidity they might become sticky.
@@EyeSeaDoughNuts thank you and where to purchase the ice cubes from
@@thick2get I used foxes mints. But any clear mints will do. However if you wanted to make your own - isomalt in a cube tray.
This is amazing, going to try and recreate it for an 80th birthday, do you have any idea how many grams of fondant you used?
BethStevens2312 hello, all depends on the size of the cake. If you copy mine for size then 500g should be enough. It's all ways better to work with thicker and more fondant than you need.
Would love to see your work. :)
EyeSea DoughNuts thank you!
BethStevens2312 not a problem. If you have any questions feel free to ask :)
@@EyeSeaDoughNuts what's the size of the cake used?
Naza Fred 6inch pan :)
What size of cakes did you use and is that a half bottle or mini bottle of champagne? Thank you
Laura Wright I use three six inch cakes. Cut down to a taper. The bottle is a mini one, about a wine glass amount of liquid.
Thank you so much!
Laura Wright you are welcome. I would love to see your cake once it's done. My instergram is eyesea_doughnuts
what did you spray the cake with to make it shine?
jamie ater it is an edible lister spray in sliver.
Can be found on amazon or most cake supply shops.
@@EyeSeaDoughNutscan I spray it on buttercream? Would it work?
Thank you! Cake looks great!
@@vin4vin you would need to get alcohol/powder based paint for butter cream. Most paints are water based and will not stick to the fat in the butter cream. I use Spectrum flow.
@@EyeSeaDoughNuts Thank you very much!!!
is that a real bottle of champagne? amazing cake☺
This was made for a birthday cake and the bubbly was the little extra. The bottle is real but if you wanted to you could make a edible one.
The cake was really simple to do and looks the part. I would recommend making this cake if your new to decorating. Cheers for the comment :)
Was thinking of using a real bottle myself but im worried incase it's too heavy?
susan jones the bottle I used was small and it will depend on which cake you make and weight of the bottle.
If you are worried put a supporting board in the middle of the cake with dowels to hold it up.
How many servings does this cake have?
Ileana Pagan about 20 or so 👌
How big is it? Is is two round 8" x 3 and 1 8 x3?
Ileana Pagan this was two and half 6 inch cake pans that are about 2.5 inch tall.
You can use any pan size you have. 8 would work fine :)
What was the Gray wrap that you used to make the bucket appearance?
Lazer tazer in the uk we call it royal icing but in America they calm it fondant. :)
Rollable icing.
How many 11x8 sheets of fondant do you think I would need for a cake like this? Thanks for the help btw!
Lazer tazer not a problem.
If you have the option I would suggest rolling out your own. This would help you gauge how much you need and limit the about of fondant joins you need. One large piece of icing is harder to use but will give you a cleaner finish.
You can still use sheets though and depending on the size of the cake I would say 2 for my one.
What are the ice cubes?
Cristian AR they are foxes mints. A clear mint
What size cakes was those?
Debra Bradley 6 inch :)
Great cake! I’m looking to make one for my sister in laws 30th. I’ve seen below that you use 3 6inch layers and a Madeira cake recipe. Do you know the amounts of batter you put into each tin? Also, the recipe you have stated, Do you need to make double that amount to make this particular cake. Thank you
Naomi Dawson I would double the mixture to make this cake. I fill up my tins to about 2/3 full. The cake will dome so you will need to cut it level.
Hope this helps.
Would love to see you cake once it's done. You can find me on Instagram :)
I'll be making this cake in the next couple of weeks. Just to be clear so I don't go wrong I need 3x6inch tins, and when you say double the amount will I then need;
18oz self raising flour
12oz butter or margarine
12oz caster sugar
6 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
2floz of milk
This would be double the amounts given in another comment?
Thank you
Naomi Dawson yes that's correct. Keep in mind that even if the recipe is the same you may get a different raise on the cake. This is down to a number of factors. You will have to judge the height by eye.
Also in the middle of the cake is a cake board disc. This is held up by straws. The bottle sits on the board.
Good luck with your cake :)
EyeSea DoughNuts brilliant! Thank you so much for your help! I’ll let you know how it goes :)
Naomi Dawson not a problem. Bakers stick together :)
I would love to see a picture once a it's done.
Any questions just let me know :)
