Yeah. As a born and raised Selangor-KL dweller, understanding the KLCC floors is still tricky. On the UG and LG, sometimes a mall is built on the side of a hill, where there are two lobbies that are both at the ground level. But sometimes it is only G and LG, which means that the mall has an underground level, but not to be confused with the B series which is the parking. In this case if we start at level 1 for LG, then the ground level (important for pedestrians) is at level 2, which can also confuse people. About Malaysian don't usually buy designers brand. Yes, afford or can't afford is one thing. But I think Malaysian comes to realised that nobody cares. For example you brought a handbag worth a month salary. Your friends was like 'wow so beautiful. how much was it?'. After a few more questions, you new handbag will not in everyone's mind. Start from there, your newly bought handbag has become an average handbag. Yes, it just takes a few questions only. Other than that, most Malaysian aware of snatch thieves.

In Malaysia we drive everywhere because our public transport is not as advanced as countries like Korea/Singapore! 😭 Other than Kuala Lumpur, all the other states in Malaysia do not have the subway 😤
one of the reason is, Malaysia is focused on selling cars, that's where a lot of tax generated to the gov. hence the lack of public transport on bigger scale. even in KL the public transport is not continous, always a void in between.
Malaysia is a nice country to live for pension and grows family, after suffered from our home country lifestyle. I was quiet stressed out back in Germany and Singapore. I ended up having happier and relaxing life in Malaysia ❤

I live 24 years in Malaysia and honestly I am also still confuse about the floor level numbering hahahahaha I'm scared to press floor button in the elavator
Exactlyy...especially at mall. Lg1,lg2,l3...why cant they just put 1st floor,2nd floor or 3rd floor. It makes me nervous! I need to remember all the tiang number...hahaha

I totally agree abt the branded bag thing. I’d rather own a house than a branded bag. I also prefer living debt free than having a branded handbag. I can definitely afford getting Hermes but I’m happy with Charles & Keith so why change? 😂
Wait you dont have a gate infront of your door? I think houses are suppose to have that. I keep my shoes outside, keeping shoes inside gets my house dirty.
If you feel bad that you got pick up by a friend, especially when it's a long way. I suggest you give them some money for petrol or toll. It doesn't matter how much, you can give them RM5 (even though it might cost more), they will be happy by the thought! If my friend don't want to take my money, I will put it in the cup holder and run out of the car so they can't give me back. It is a just an action to show them that we appreciate their help and we are not taking them for granted!
Never thought of the pickup culture before. I lived in Japan and once a while I have a car for a few days. When a group of a friend suddenly want to meet up at night and everyone live nearby.. and the location we want to go have access to car park. I tell then I'll pick them up once by one... they all don't know how to react on the situation. haha At the end I realize me being very Malaysian in Japan. Still pick them up and we're all ended up having the best night.
@@rieyahjamil1707 Japanese will never directly say No to you. They will give you some hint, I use my Gaijin Card pretend the answer is Yes. HAHA Of course they will apologies at first for the troublesome. Me being Malaysian, I just say 'Don't Sorry, I never ask for it. Let's enjoy tonight."
my lecturer told us that our malaysian exchange students cook maggi in heater and eat with whatever mugs they have and scare the sh* out of other japanese student xDDD
I would rather buy foods or cars haha, my family and friends are the same tho, we often spent a lot on foods, cars or travelling lol, I'm used to it. Plus, we do love carpooling hence why we loves cars tho, the pandemic ruined everything tho hm
As for the grill door, it is made that way for safety. For example, if someone rang your bell, you can open your door first and look at the person before opening the grill/gate. Who knows, if it is some dangerous people.
In Malaysia, we basically don't keep food too long in a fridge and we don't ferment our food. we love to eat fresh food for every dine. moreover, with hot weather, food will be easily spoiled if fermented. therefore we only store vegetable, meat and egg for a month only. the rest we will buy weekly in the supermarket.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I thought I'm the only one who have that habit (didn't eat the food if I put in the fridge) my mom usually keep our leftover food in fridge and usually I won't eat it unless she heat up the food again
Hahaha I laugh so hard about the “floor numbers”. Sometimes I also confuse eventho I’m Malaysian 🤣 and I agreed about the materialistic. If I have a lot of money, I prefer traveling rather than expensive handbag 💯
I think Malaysians love the pick up culture because more time to lepak/gossip and if you're late to any outings, it'll be less embarrassing because you have your friend with you haha
Haha i understand the LG , UG , G, all G lah. I also cannot understand sometime they said on the first floor, but it end up being on the ground floor. Haishhh
Reasons why we (Malaysians) can do the ‘Pick Up Culture’ - We dont buy designer’s handbags 🤣. Most Malaysians care more about travelling, buying a house, and most of all.... where to dine.
You made me smile talking about our Malaysian culture - yes, we are quite simple folks and prefer to enjoy life in other ways, eating out, travelling and just enjoying life without much of the materialistic aspects. I do have friends who are into designer labels but it hasn't affected me in the least as I like a comfortable, easy-going lifestyle. Cannot wait too get back to Malaysia as I miss the local food and try I might, I could never get the same taste in the U.S.
I laughed so hard at the floor numbers 😂😂😂 even as a malaysian myself, I get confused with the floor numbers because different places have different floor numbers. Some start with G, 1,2, 3, some is B2, B1, LG, G, UG, 1,2, 3, some is just B2, B1, G, 1, 2,3..
I don’t think petrol is cheap but friends always offer to send girl friends home because it’s dangerous for girls to travel home alone. I always try to send my friends home as well 🤗
It’s more expensive in non-petrol producing countries like South Korea. but for a petrol-producing country, our petrol is not cheap.. subsidised but still not cheap. we prefer to drive because the heat and humidity will just make you sweat a lot.
Pick up culture is very fun when hanging with friends since we get more time to hang out and then when we go to a new place, we get to be lost together
Back in those days when we just gotten our license, it’s a cool thing to pickup your friends. Like telling them “I’m grown up, can drive a car now. “ I like picking up my friends too. It a form of bonding for us
i didnt realise about the pickup culture 😂😂 i also just realised some good things about my country from what you’ve mentioned in this video hahaha susbcribed!
안녕 한국누나, 저도 한국에서 반년 동안 살았습니다. I think the pickup culture in Malaysia and south Korea is because almost every Malaysian household have a car. It's very different from korea such as Seoul where I had lived. Therefore picking up their friends sending them back home is a common practice. Plus, malaysian are really REALLY friendly so it comes natural that one that have car ask their friends out would offer to give them a ride.
Save money for more important things. Even among young people, we were told to save money to buy our own house, car or even gold (lately). Nowadays, we need money for everything. Even to get married, you must have enough money to provide for your future family.
So true about Koreans only able to use HUGE fridge. My wife just spend my credit card on a new LG GC-M247SLUV two months ago. Now full of Tupperware inside the fridge (another Korean thing where they have way too much containers to keep food).
You're def right. For floors im always confused and im a malaysian. For bags. I don't think need designer bag cuz what i keep inside the bag is what i will put with a non designer bag too HAHA
I was ded when you were talking about the air con part. When I traveled to Beijing, their buses, air con were shooting out hot air,at a 40°C outdoor temperature. At that time, I thought I was ****ing dead
Regarding the floor labeling: Yes, we do inherit the British convention by naming it G Floor > 1st Floor > 2nd Floor. Upper Ground and Lower Ground is only used when the building is on a slope with multiple entrances at different level. Basement is when the entire parking level is totally below ground level. Sub-basement is when half or part of the basement is above ground. This is also sometimes called Lower Ground floor, if there is a rentable space there. Because no business wanna tell people that their premise is in the basement. It sounds less prestigious, so instead, they call it LG. Even if it's fully underground, they'd call it LG1, LG2 and so on. Only when the space is purely parking and services, would they call it basement. Anyways, although we primarily inherited British convention, we do import a lot of American influence as well (which I believe similar to Korean). Meaning there will be buildings that use GF or 1st F > 2nd F > 3rd F and so on. To add to the confusion, there is the Chinese influence as well, where they rename all the 4th floors as 3A, or sometimes remove them all together!
The elevators part make me laugh 😂😂😂 Thankfully at the shopping mall the elevator is not that complicated lololol Pick up culture is very true. We don't use public transportation that much, it only for some2 situation. For example you are an university student living far from home, you have to take a public transportation if your parents cannot send you there, or when you are travellling, or visiting somebody or going shopping with friends at a crowded place like Kuala Lumpur, it's more convenient to ride public transport cause so many carsss there. If it is a place not that crowded to drive, then we prefer use our own cars of course Where we spent our money that's also true we don't care much about fashion unless that person really interested in it, as long as it is affordable and it looks nice to wear, that was good enough already. Mostly our main concern is food cause most peoples eat outside and travelling I guess?
The laid back culture, the addictive food and pretty much everything is quite cheap and affordable.. even when we are travelling we cant wait to get back to Malaysia
I think u're the first foreigner talk about the pick up culture🥰. My bestfriend always pick me up to hang out and i will put money secretly in the dashboard as return & feeling grateful. Who's here same like me🙋♀️.
Interesting, informative and entertaining content as usual, I really enjoy your channel. As a Korean living in Malaysia, I'm curious as to what you think Malaysians can learn and adapt from Korean culture 😊
This was so much fun to watch! I really like how you explained the differences and as a Malaysian, I didn’t even realise these things weren’t normal in other countries like the floor number thing and air-con thing😂
pick up culture we really do it here but it is a consideration to them if you pay back their petrol money even if they dont ask you for it. There's various ways to pay them back. you can even offer to buy them food or clothes etc.
nahhh not all people that stingy. if you go to the same direction people not really care bout petrol etc. treat them is nice tho but its not consider something you must do regularly
@@K3mrM we're paying back their kindness not because they're ' stingy ' but it's because we're not taking their kindness for granted . I mean , of course most malaysians doesn't really mind whether we're going to payback for the ride or not but i don't think we should just ignore their effort to help us
Not really. Some rich people or T20 people have a long term plan with their money such as improving the lives of their parents and children, buying bigger house and only sometimes spend some money on pleasure. Vanity depreciate your money while buying property and invest in your family ensure future prosperity.

Omg u are right about the air-con!!! I’m a Malaysian and I suffer all the time when I went to campus back then and in office over the years (before COVID happened). It is simply just TOO COLD even with a hoodie/jacket/sweater. I tell my frens n family all the time that I don’t feel as cold when I travel in Korea or Australia but nobody believes me lol!
사랑해 Unnie!!!!!!!! (i just learn hangul and i trying to match up the Hangul) 2:20 yes i dont turn on my aircond for a long days....its like a Winter here (there is no Winter but always raining here)
I was confused about the lift also...but here in my place sabah...ermmm there is no LG UG or bla bla bla...they only have G..1..2..3..4..5..6.. and so on..
pick up culture is a must in malaysia because when you wanna hang out with your friends they always said "otw" while they still on the bed and you end up waiting for hours at the meeting place 😂😂😂
Regard floor level, G must indicate that the exit to fire escape is in this floor. LG, UG usually found in shopping mall. First time heard there is apartment that has that kind of floor lol For us, those designer items only used in special occasion, even when we buy them, we keep them most of the time. You use cheap bag for daily, since the designer items will be worn out as easily as cheap things.
OH MY GOODNESS kakak Korea I can assure (I'm a Sabahan) so when I moved to Peninsular to study, my apartment has way too many weird levels (UG, LG, G, 1F) I remember I got lost once and I was already quite late to class and my brain had to figure out all these early morning. Like it is so frustrating. Here in Sabah we don't have that (not as far as I'm concern with)
It's really interesting to watch your videos, because I'm getting to see Malaysia through the eyes of someone from another culture! That was a thoughtful, insightful, and entertaining piece of commentary. Keep it up! :)
Kakak, maybe you should buy the close rack/cabinet for the shoes. Then you can keep them outdoors. Those shoes stealing thing also happened at my apartment. Yeah, its frustrating.
Pretty much spot on on alot of things except Fridge and Air Cond, I guess it depends on where you stay. Alot of expats in Malaysia stay in a high class super condo/upper class condominium. Some with families stay in a gated and guarded low-density neighbourhood of Semi-Ds and Bungalows, at these areas you will see the large fridge (smart fridge, 4 doors, double fridges on wet and dry kitchens) and shoe racks outside their homes. Air Cond at corridors are also not a common thing, I guess your place must be well lived off of. Yes we save money on childrens education more, on things like a better, bigger house, cars, and investments, and less on shopping for fancy stuffs. Many of us dont care if we wear shorts to shopping malls, with sandals and slippers.
I can vouch for the branded bag things. It depends on what one values in their life. But I rather spend it on food and hobby rather than designer bags. I have bought designer bags nonetheless, but I always buy one or two good handbag that can last long in the span of like 10-15years before buying new handbag. Perhaps I’m the weird one for being like this. Just I don’t see the point on always getting new bag when the old ones are good as new. It’s such a waste of resource(the world really need to stop consuming non stop) and it can save storage space in the house too. The pickup culture is really a norm too. Perhaps it’s more to because our public transport not at its best yet? But if you live in the city where the LRT and MRT all around, it’s easier to use that instead and save on the parking fees. But getting to other parts, it’s probably best with cars and it’s best when you go somewhere together with your friends. You have a good time even during the journey. ^^
4:18 I think the basic reasoning behind the "Ground" floor whether is the ground floor is the floor in which it is leveled with the outside land. As for Upper and Lower are usually used when there's a "basement" floor in which there's no parking in the floor. Usually 1F in Malaysia is equivalent to 2F in Korean regardless whether the building uses "Ground" floor only or, "Upper Ground" and "Lower Ground" at the same time since the "Lower Ground is underground. All the B floors are reserved for underground parking so that people can identify where they park better. For some buildings with parking above the facilities (for example above the mall), they will have U floor instead.
As a malaysian myself, don’t know the difference with the floor levels. Every building have their own level.. some do use B L1 L2, some use LG and 1F. I’m confused every time
If you ever feel like a burden to your friends for getting free car rides, just repay by treating them to a meal sometimes or chip in gas money! So you don't feel bad all the time or after! It's also a nice way of showing your appreciation :) ❤
when she talk about the floor numbers i was like "lmao i feel you girl" 😭 sometimes i got confused too and when i go out with my friends or family or just walk alone i often get lost 🥲😂

Btw me n my friends if we hang out together n some of us need to pick up,(usually we pick up each other coz we r still students n don't have our own vehicles) except our parent's 😂 then we usually will share the petrol expenses... Most of the time you need the common sense to "tong-tong" duit minyak, toll or some refreshment 🤣

I totally agree abt the branded bag thing. I’d rather own a house than a branded bag. I also prefer living debt free than having a branded handbag. I can definitely afford getting Hermes but I’m happy with Charles & Keith so why change? 😂
I can’t even afford c&k😢
Malaysian can't buy bag due to buy house 😂😂😂😂. Not enough budget.
If we have the money, we spend it on food and travel or maybe buy a house. No point to buy something we can't afford, vincci is enough for me 😂😂
i only can afford polo hill rm50-60 hahahah but i just buy it to use the whole 3 years. tahan lamaaaa
I'd rather spend it on my family/Hobbies or other needs. Others opinion's don't really affect my life✌🏻

Over here in Melaka, we just treat each other as a good deed (because NOONE ever accepts gas money, even more if its your friend)
treat as is treat you food :)
I suggest just treat them for lunch or a drink. In Sabah where I’m from, absolutely no one will accept money. 💜
Well, usually what we do is if they don't accept money it's either you drive them the next round or you treat them food. That's how we usually do xD
We never take money, especially money fr friends. We usually treat them food.
Never thought of the pickup culture before. I lived in Japan and once a while I have a car for a few days.
When a group of a friend suddenly want to meet up at night and everyone live nearby.. and the location we want to go have access to car park.
I tell then I'll pick them up once by one... they all don't know how to react on the situation. haha
At the end I realize me being very Malaysian in Japan.

As for the grill door, it is made that way for safety. For example, if someone rang your bell, you can open your door first and look at the person before opening the grill/gate. Who knows, if it is some dangerous people.
In Malaysia, we basically don't keep food too long in a fridge and we don't ferment our food. we love to eat fresh food for every dine. moreover, with hot weather, food will be easily spoiled if fermented. therefore we only store vegetable, meat and egg for a month only. the rest we will buy weekly in the supermarket.
i dont eat overnight food so yeah.. smaller the fridge is better for me
We do have fermented foods tho, like tempoyak, tempe, budu..

I think Malaysians love the pick up culture because more time to lepak/gossip and if you're late to any outings, it'll be less embarrassing because you have your friend with you haha

Reasons why we (Malaysians) can do the ‘Pick Up Culture’ - We dont buy designer’s handbags 🤣.
Most Malaysians care more about travelling, buying a house, and most of all.... where to dine.
Where to dine! Yas! 🤣😄
Where to dine and the biggest problem is what to dine. "Nak makan apa". 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Some start with G, 1,2, 3, some is B2, B1, LG, G, UG, 1,2, 3, some is just B2, B1, G, 1, 2,3..
true..if you forgot which floor you park your car, that would be terrible 😂
I don’t think petrol is cheap but friends always offer to send girl friends home because it’s dangerous for girls to travel home alone. I always try to send my friends home as well 🤗
It never be cheap 😂
Not a Malaysian so please correct me if I am wrong but I thought petrol is subsidised in Malaysia?
@@mattw6922 yes it was subsidised but only tiny ( idk how percent the gov subsidised)but the price still expensive
It’s more expensive in non-petrol producing countries like South Korea. but for a petrol-producing country, our petrol is not cheap.. subsidised but still not cheap. we prefer to drive because the heat and humidity will just make you sweat a lot.
@@xydroGies you say petrol is not cheap but yet you still prefer to drive.
Pick up culture is very fun when hanging with friends since we get more time to hang out and then when we go to a new place, we get to be lost together

Back in those days when we just gotten our license, it’s a cool thing to pickup your friends. Like telling them “I’m grown up, can drive a car now. “

I'm a Malaysian and I always thought UG meant Under Ground😅
안녕 한국누나, 저도 한국에서 반년 동안 살았습니다. I think the pickup culture in Malaysia and south Korea is because almost every Malaysian household have a car. It's very different from korea such as Seoul where I had lived. Therefore picking up their friends sending them back home is a common practice. Plus, malaysian are really REALLY friendly so it comes natural that one that have car ask their friends out would offer to give them a ride.
Im Malaysian and was wondering why my Korean friend didn’t want me to pick her up. I understand now!
Save money for more important things. Even among young people, we were told to save money to buy our own house, car or even gold (lately). Nowadays, we need money for everything. Even to get married, you must have enough money to provide for your future family.

You're def right. For floors im always confused and im a malaysian. For bags. I don't think need designer bag cuz what i keep inside the bag is what i will put with a non designer bag too HAHA

Wow...i didn't realize about the pickup culture😂😂 i thought it normal to pickup friends when we promise to go out together
Thanks for explanation😁
This make me more confused😂

Yea me too! 😄😄
Haha because we Malaysian too lazy, that why we always use car or motorcycle. Saya seorang sahaja macam ni. 😂
The elevators part make me laugh 😂😂😂
Thankfully at the shopping mall the elevator is not that complicated lololol
Pick up culture is very true.
If it is a place not that crowded to drive, then we prefer use our own cars of course
Where we spent our money that's also true we don't care much about fashion unless that person really interested in it, as long as it is affordable and it looks nice to wear, that was good enough already.
Who's here same like me🙋♀️.

we really do it here but it is a consideration to them if you pay back their petrol money even if they dont ask you for it. There's various ways to pay them back. you can even offer to buy them food or clothes etc.
Yea that's exactly how I do! esp for long distance✨ even tho my frds say "NO NEED" 🤣🤣 I try to treat or pay patrol sth
nahhh not all people that stingy. if you go to the same direction people not really care bout petrol etc. treat them is nice tho but its not consider something you must do regularly

@@K3mrM we're paying back their kindness not because they're ' stingy ' but it's because we're not taking their kindness for granted . In Malaysia, only the richest and celebrities would buy expensive designer bag. ordinary people like me just buy the fake one 😂

Not really. Some rich people or T20 people have a long term plan with their money such as improving the lives of their parents and children, buying bigger house and only sometimes spend some money on pleasure. pick up culture is a must in malaysia because when you wanna hang out with your friends they always said "otw" while they still on the bed and you end up waiting for hours at the meeting place 😂😂😂
the truth has been spoken XD
Regard floor level, G must indicate that the exit to fire escape is in this floor. LG, UG usually found in shopping mall. First time heard there is apartment that has that kind of floor lol
For us, those designer items only used in special occasion, even when we buy them, we keep them most of the time.
Yea so I just keep inside, but its so ugly to put inside 😭 wanna get nice shoe rack when I get my own house 😄😄
I really like the concept of banchan because growing up my mom always have to cook at least four dishes but my dad would refuse yesterday dish
You hit the points flawlessly..jackpot!😁

@@KakakKorea You look alike like a Thai artist named Yardpirun. Cheers kakak Korea. Support whatever you do.
