My favorite band at it's absolute best, firing on all cylinders, lyrical brilliance, spectacular vocals, metronomic drumming, beautiful keyboards and atmospheric guitar work combine for the most moving music I've discovered in this lifetime. I have seen hundreds of bands and appreciate it all but these guys always did it for me. Kudos....
Gotta Agree with You Friend Saw Them on This Tour in San Diego They were Past Burning it Down Like You I’ve Seen So Many Incredible Bands But This Band on this Tour, When Friends ask This was Always My Best and Favorite They are Just Do Damn Tight…
The golden age of Simple Minds with great musicians and great moments of communion with the audience with the Divine MickMac Neil. I’m 64 years old and these are the best moments of my life where SM has played a big role
Mick’s keyboard playing out of this world love to see him back in Simple Minds saw them 1985 and years past that. They just get better and better.Proper music and a band that can play
Simple Minds in their Lester prime a very well oiled machine! Mel is such an accurate drummer just spot on,I swear he's playing it inner ear click track just awesome!
This band seemed ascendent in 1987 when we returned to the USA after four years in the beautiful and pastoral Suffolk, England. I am a musician who had been pro a decade earlier. My ears were mostly focused on jazz, fusion, prog and psychedelic rock. We were visiting my wife’s parents in Coventry on a long weekend when I first heard the most extraordinary music. My teenage brother-in-law was spinning LIVE IN THE CITY OF LIGHT and the bassist (John Gilblin) just knocked me out. The entire band was a amazing. There was no way to identify a genre that they fit into other than fantastic. I was hooked immediately. When we returned to the Colorado in the USA Simple Minds were getting lots of airplay. I was surprised. Rolling Stone (ick) ran a feature that announced Simple Minds were now a stadium band. And then nothing. STREET FIGHTING YEARS, maybe my favorite, came and went. This turned out to be the project that broke a truly great band. REAL LIFE quietly came and went. I did get to see Simple Minds in a wonderful old theater in Denver 1992. I met Charlie after the show. We talked guitars and gear for about 20 minutes. He took a genuine interest in my own band. I still wonder what happened?
Mick McNeil left. Its the only conclusion I can come to, he must have had a driving role in the sound and composition because without him they went off a cliff
And now we have to wait for a miracle to happen for the whole Rotterdam concert to be released on Blu Ray!

I was looking for this version for a long time... This backing singer is incredible... She was a big part of music video shows in the 80s...
I was born this very night🥰
Best version of this outstanding song. Flipping heck. John was a fabulous bass guitarist. He is the icing on the cake on this song. R.I.P to him

The in ear monitors were nonexistent until the 1990s
I attended their concerts for as often as they came to the Bay Area back in those great days. Absolutely, one of the most-talented musicians!
Who is? The entire band are excellent, jet saying 👍
💓 i remember taping this on vhs n wearing it out to the point of it warping .Great concert !
Me too!! Good times!
So did I from The Tube on Channel 4
i did the same. i wish i kept that VHS tape.
I used to come home from school, straight upstairs, put video on and go mental to it before going out with mates 😂🤣👍✌️
Same here, still have that tape somewhere in the attic, but no player lol..

They didn't become massive in america like they record label thought street fighting years wasn't a very commercial album after
Mick McNeil left. Its the only conclusion I can come to, he must have had a driving role in the sound and composition because without him they went off a cliff
@@charleskennedy1712 Agree. Jim has admitted he miscalculated Mick's importance.
