Concrete Blonde, the most underrated band if there was ever one. Great voice, great songs, great albums. They should be filling stadiums. Maybe it´s better this way...
I think this song is one of the best songs Concrete Blonde ever did and I am A HUGE fan. I could not agree more with your comment. "It seemed like we would live forever, life was not this hard, no we felt nothing much at all, and it felt great". Always gets to me too.
James Mankey's guitar playing is like no one else's and compliments Johnette's amazingly expressive voice perfectly. Together they make incredible music that goes straight to the soul. They are true artists, and unfortunately, it may be after they are gone that they are finally appreciated by the masses as the huge musical talents they are. After all, life is beautiful & terrible & strange. You've made my life so much better, Johnette and James. Much love.
It does suck that some amazing songwriters and bands were around in the early 90s and on who were, for whatever reason, way underappreciated. I LOVE this song. I do think good songwriters just get much, much better with age. This song is simply gorgeous!! And haunting...
This is, in my opinion, not only one of the best CB songs ever, but definitely the best video they ever made. The treatment/translation from song to video was amazing and perfect and I don't know who's directly responsible for it, but she/he/they deserve not only my applause but some sort of award as well. Excellent video. Love it love it love it!
In no particular order, Annie Lennox, Johnette Napalitano, Ann Wilson, Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheredge, Pat Benatar. My faves from my youth. Pop tarts to be, /take notes/!
damn... her voice hasn't aged even slightly. it was always mature, but its as smooth and powerful as it was 20 years ago. and she's still cute as hell at 52 ; )
accomplished musicians that actually practiced for their performances.thats right practiced,a word these kids today are completely unfamiliar with.cb shows you how it should be done!
Pick up the phone I know you're there It's almost closing time & We can toss down one more shot Before last call Are you ok? I swear to God I gotta get out of this house I miss the days when I'd just Not come home at all. So, don't you cry, it'll give you lines Around your eyes You gotta try not to live so much of Life alone. & If I see you getting crazy by the bottom of the bottle Take me home, take me home, I'll take You home Remember when we used to stumble Down the boulevard From bar to bar until we couldn't stagger straight It seemed like we would live forever, Life was not this hard No we felt nothing much at all but it felt Great So, don't you cry it'll give you lines Around your eyes You gotta try not to live so much of Life alone & If I see you getting crazy by the bottom of the bottle, Take you home, I'll take you home, I'll Take you home. Things get better everyday you stay alive Then I'm amazed Every day That the sun decides to rise Every minute, every hour, is another Chance to change Life is beautiful & terrible & strange. So don't you cry, it'll give you lines around Your eyes You gotta try not to live so much of life alone & If i see you getting crazy by the bottom Of the bottle, Take you home, I'll take you home, I'll take you home. @MacDon590 Wow can totally relate.Old lady could never relate to any of my music I remember "Gimme Shelter" was playing on the radio, and the look she gave me was, this is absolute crap and how could anybody like this (actually she might've actually said it) Only problem, she finally had enuf of me after 12 years, and a 4 yr old daughter. And I would give anything to be holding her right now listening to god awful rap and her god awful "Lifetime" movies.Maybe you allready no, but hold on to yours
Being a new fan I'm not sure of the chronology of this song. Is Johnette really showing that much age, or is she made up to look that way in this video?

Wonderful mournful song, typical Johnette genius. To the director...this is an amazing video, captures the song in total.
Talk about flashbacks....I lived this for a while.
Fantastic. Incredible. Everything that is Concrete Blonde.
That is one gorgeous voice.
Wow, brings back so many memories!
God how i've missed her voice and the wail of his guitar!!
Out of all the songs, I listen to this one a lot after a broken heart.
This is, in my opinion, not only one of the best CB songs ever, but definitely the best video they ever made. Pick up the phone I know you're there
It's almost closing time
& We can toss down one more shot
Before last call
Are you ok?
I swear to God
I gotta get out of this house
I miss the days when I'd just
Not come home at all.
So, don't you cry, it'll give you lines
Around your eyes
You gotta try not to live so much of
Life alone.
& If I see you getting crazy by the bottom of the bottle
Take me home, take me home, I'll take
You home
Remember when we used to stumble
Down the boulevard
From bar to bar until we couldn't stagger straight
It seemed like we would live forever,
Life was not this hard
No we felt nothing much at all but it felt
Great
So, don't you cry it'll give you lines
Around your eyes
You gotta try not to live so much of
Life alone
& If I see you getting crazy by the bottom of the bottle,
Take you home, I'll take you home, I'll
Take you home.
Things get better everyday you stay alive
Then I'm amazed
Every day
That the sun decides to rise
Every minute, every hour, is another
Chance to change
Life is beautiful & terrible & strange.
So don't you cry, it'll give you lines around
Your eyes
You gotta try not to live so much of life alone
& If i see you getting crazy by the bottom
Of the bottle,
Take you home, I'll take you home, I'll take you home.
Now don't you cry, it'll give you lines around
Your eyes
You gotta try not to live so much of life alone
& If you see me getting crazy by the bottom of the bottle,
Take me home, take me home, take me home
"Things get better every day you stay alive
Then I’m amazed every day that the sun decides to rise
Every minute, every hour is another chance to change
Life is beautiful and terrible and strange"
Do song lyrics get any better than that. Not really.
read somewhere John Denver has a writing credit on this
DUBA did a killer cover of bloodletting

@horizonrusted My thoughts exactly
What Concrete Blonde are you speaking of?
I don't know a single person to ever underrate Concrete Blonde.
@jackdonkey22 ditto
I believe its because she died, hell if she hadn't of died, lord only knows what they could have become.
Can't belive 8 dislike ....
Johnette is incapable of writing lyrics that are not deep, soulful, and relatable.
