I'm preparing to tear things down and I got to the point in your video where the water pump had RTV... I paused and immediately I thought "the dealer said it was gasket only!". I was about to be really frustrated because I live an hour from the parts store and did not want to make a second trip for gasket maker tonight. Shortly after resuming the video you cleared up the confusion and a wave of relief swept over. Great video. Thanks much.
I started to hear noise coming from the engine and I thought it was one of the pulleys. I found out that it was the water pump failed though the temperature was just fine and I got frustrated. Your video was a great help thank so much
Thank you , Sir for the informative video...My wife drove her Grand Cherokee home from work tonight with a terrible noise..I pulled the engine cover off of the Hemi and pushed/pulled the water pump pulley and sure enough, it jiggled, just like the one in the video. As I was watching your video on how to do the job, my wife found a letter from Jeep extending the warranty to over 100,000 miles. Your video was awesome...very thorough...covered every point...Just past Thanksgiving 2019 now....enjoy your hunting!!!!
Same issue. Also one year later luckily I got the warranty. Didn't think the pulley was supposed to wiggle so ya answered my question on what the problem was.
I have had to warranty my own work for myself so don't feel so bad :) Corey I use different coloured China markers made in the USA to mark the bolts . I mark the bolt heads and the casting in different colours where it goes on the new pump. Tech tip , don't mark the bad pump . Keep at it bud and Gobble Gobble 🍗
@@SAAutoRepair Good luck - that hunting blind folded up like a pancake every night with a couple of inches of snow on top. I have to rig up a pole inside. Next year were trying crossbows for the first week in October. The heavy snow and cold weather we get with this global warming has forced us to try an early hunt with bows. Next year its wackem and stackem😅
I've marked bolts using different colored nail polishes... I put a dab on the heads and next to hole. I'll do the same on PCs because you can short boards using the wrong length screw in a spot. They have too many to keep track!
Asking for a friend--really! If you didn't think ahead to color code or place old bolts into the new pump, is there a diagram anywhere to show which bolts go in which hole??
Don't worry, we believe you:) sucks that it was warranty, but hey that's how it goes. I like the speedy version. Happy Thanksgiving brother, keep em coming!
not only is the information in this video what I needed, your production quality is "super fantastic." This is a great video, makes me want to tow my car to your shop all the way from Austin, TX. Mine is a 2013, but I'm guessing it's exactly the same? I read that I should also replace the fan clutch when doing the water pump. What do you say? I bought my vehicle used 3 months ago, it has roughly 90k miles on it.
Enjoyed your video. I’m trying to figure out what’s wrong with my Jeep so I don’t get taken advantage of by a mechanic. I do change my oil. Trying to broaden my horizon. This is obviously to much for me to do myself :(
@@SAAutoRepair hahaha! Oh no! Just the way it goes.... in my head I say, "at least it's not an old Taurus" I had a 96 Taurus that a customer attempted to run his car on water (as fuel), blew up his head gasket, and then proceeded to replace his own head gasket. Darn thing was warped, so I had to toss an engine in.... the same day I finish, radiator is now leaking pretty bad after burping. Throw a radiator in.... I go to drive it back, ! and brake pedal goes to the floor. Lucky for me, it was still in the bay... what a series of unfortunate events! I prayed nothing else went wrong! 😂😂😂 THAT car is my nightmare! Lmao I have a feeling you'll have better luck though!
I will bet most mechanics would not have honored a warranty at the one year point. That tells me something about you. I like the fast forward. What brand name was the old pump? Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Andrew. Your feedback means a lot. The fast forwarding was a pain to do. I'm still learning the editing thing. It took me longer to edit than it did to do the actual job. Gates was used new and old.
Light grinding noise on startup, changes tone with engine speed. OH NO not again ! another water pump bearing ! Need to replace the whole unit AGAIN ? 70,000 Miles ! I bought my 2014 V8 JGC Overlander new. Maybe 2018 , 4 years in we had a water pump failure, Jeep covered it under Warranty even though I took it to my local shop. Here we are again in 2022, less than 70K Miles total and
Yep. 66,000 miles on my W2 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 and yet another Water Pump fitted, the first replaced by Jeep as they knew they were bad and second MOPAR again lasted only 27,000 miles ! I asked to have another aftermarket / better fitted today. $750. Lets see ! Love my Jeep but my Jeep don't love me !

I have family in Austin. Let me know if you need a shop referral. Not always necessary to replace the fan clutch

GOOD VIDEO. ABOUT HOW LONG FOR A GOOD MECHANIC TO REPLACE WATER PUMP?
Depends on year, make, model
Happy Thanksgiving Corey! Sucks having to do warranty work, be thankful it doesn't happen too often! lol
Can you believe his radiator is leaking now? Happy Thanksgiving!!

Good thing you didn't do the pump in the first place😕 happy thanksgiving Corey!
I looked at the original invoice date. I was upstate hunting. Then it dawned on me. I would swear I remember doing it.
Happy Thanksgiving ! Good video !!

I believe you were referring to the brake clean to wash off the contaminants.
