Thanks for this. I know it's a lot of work to film, but you don't know how much better these videos are than just Synthesia. Seeing an actual pianist using their fingers is so much better than watching coloured blocks slide in and out of view.

Hey just thought I'd let you know that the note that you play right before the cord comes in (like the B flat at 7:20) is called a grace note, or a flam. I've heard grace note more in piano, but flam everywhere else. Not trying to be a snob I just wanted to give you the term to describe it.

Hey Steve. You recreate Elton John so well and I thank you for showing the intricacies of what he is really doing on that piano. However, I think your videos would be greatly enhanced if they were made more concise. I think there is a lot of information in your videos and that is great, but at this level of piano, learners of this type of song should know how to make a first inversion C chord for instance. This way, we would be able to get through and learn what matters in a fraction of the time!
Once again, thank you for your videos, I owe my ability to play at least 3 Elton songs to you!
I appreciate the input and will keep it in consideration. However, I think those with more advanced skills underestimate the number who tune in who need that level of detail and deliberation.

Please help me with a basic theory question i have. Why does E (on the left hand) has consonance with the B, A and G chords on the right hand???

@@PianoManSteve Sure. 11:00. This is just an example. I guess my question is. Why is it possible to play different chords on the right hand with just one bass note on the left...i just don't get it.

Ok....good question. I'll try to do my best to answer in a comment. When you get into more complex chords, one of the things you'll learn is that chords can be played intentionally with unusual bass notes...sometimes over the 3rd or 5th of the chord, but also sometimes over notes that don't even appear in the chord voicing at all. It is less common to be sure, but sometimes an odd bass note creates a really unusual sound that is exactly what the writer is looking for. In the sequence you're talking about, the chord changes because the piano is playing a signature line, and therefore is playing both chords AND the melody.....the chord shifts from Em7 to Am and then back to Em7, and the bass note stays the same on an "E".....so if it were written out in chord symbols it would look like, "Em7 Am/E Em7", and those changes occur rapidly in the same measure following the top line melody of that signature intro. I hope that helps clear it up....Elton uses odd bass notes far more often than most rock/pop songwriters....a trait he picked up from both Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and Lennon/McCartney.

Hi Steve. When I play the little grace note from Bb to B on the second measure, it's too loud because my fourth finger is so much stronger than my 5th. So the B ends up being overshadowed by the Bb (even though I don't sustain the Bb). Any suggestions?
I know this is months old yet many black to white key flams like this are best played by sliding the same finger down to the next key.
It's only been nine years so we shouldn't count our eggs before they hatch.....😅
