The thing about power word barrier, as it says in the tooltip, it only absorbs up to a certain amount of damage in one hit. Like on your tooltip it says 10166 damage per hit for a total of 50829. So dropping it on the tank will only be a minor dmg mitigation per hit, but on the raid would be amazing. Also scales off your SP from int so by the end of the expansion there should be 100k barriers absorbing 20k per hit which would be pretty op.
On Power Word Barrier: I believe it's main function is to "take damage off the top" for encounters like Chimaeron where a lot of damage will go out, but be divided evenly over the players in the area or magmaw. So instead of everyone in a 10 man taking 20k each they would take 15K each if inside the barrier. It's really a mana saver for healers...I'd be really curious to see if the barriers could be stacked on top of each other to get 20k block each pulse up to 100k...if so wow.
in cata blizz wants healers to also do dmg when there not healing its one of the resons there takeing out tree form for druids so they dont get locked out of dmg spells just for the extra healing
@someonefromthisworld Penance now will be first spell you going to get as soon as you picked up Disc tree. So it will be on your bars from lvl 10 if you will choose to level as disc ;).
Power Word: Barrier will absolutely rule for soloing hard mobs when questing / farming. If you are alone under the barrier and it isnt a raid boss that hits like a truck on nitro it will be awesome.
one thing I wish they did for disc priests, the power word barrier(last point in tree) I wish that was applied to everyone, cuz in the cata dungeons the boss give out aoe crap where you have to avoid and the tank and mdps miss it. I use it now on trash mobs for when I am lazy:D
Leveling as Disc is amazing fun. Make sure to select the talents for Evangelism, Archangel, and Atonement. This means that you can both solo, and do 5mans as healer, and heal using smite, and shields. It is bloody amazing fun.
My reaction to this spec is "holy shit that looks like fun". I am actually a little bit shocked just how interesting and fun this looks. My suspicion is that you will be able to heal 5mans doing shield tank, smite, smite, inner focus, greater heal tank, shield, smite smite, archangel, greater heal tank, smite smite etc

Must have for Smite-spec. It gives 18% hit for smite ;). And yes. Smite-specs look very viable as raid-healing specs in Cata. Basically Smite replaces your Heal there. It does feel awkard at first, but it is unique and fun. A lot of theorycrafting about it is on EJ atm :).

Also giving Powerword barrior a 20% absorb instead of 50K will make all the none priest pvpers go mental and cry
Blizzard has said that when a healer is not healing they should dps so they have been putting talents in healing trees to encourage dpsing when the tank is not taking damage
im glad we get penance at such a low lvl (lvl 10) itl make lvling alot easyer to lvl a disc priest like in WOLK i got mine to lvl 18 and it took me a a month to lvl it to that and i got my hunter to lvl 30 within a month and i played them the same amount and i noticed my hunter was way easer to lvl and i think thats y they put focus onto hunters and boost the disc priest abilities to help them lvl up
PowerWord barrier just needs to be much more buff, they should have a subtractor in the equation for some amount based on resilience... unless resilience is gone?
With the new glyph system do you need to purchase each glyph twice. As in one for each spec? Also, what is with the 'Dust of Disappearence' at the bottom right of the glyph window?

this is the new priest healing for disc... you get Evangelism and Archangel to HEAL on raids with ur smite, u get the glyph that increases the Hit of your Smite by 18% (so you have 100% hit on raid bosses) so ull be smiting the raid boss to heal the tanks/melee guys, proc the Angel @ 5stacks and u get imba healing and mana back.. SPAMING smite on raid bosses gonna be the new disc way to heal the melees ITS GREAT =D so DO take evangelism and angel for pve with the glyph and be an agresive healer
i feel a little let down with this one, priest is my class and i was really excited for this but i jsut cant feel the power of the yog here :< also smite spec isis viable in raids to regen mana during damage luls
Discipline is a pvp tree please would you get it already it is not all about pve. In pvp as healer you try to damage here and their aswell and discipline is the best tree for it it damages and it has great heals.

you missed a lot of useful glyphs, glyph of divine accuracy will be important for all the abilities that use smite
PW:Barrier + Divine Hymn will probably let you have enough dps alive to do that last 2% damage to the boss.
