howling blast is not used very often unless killing machine procs (in wrath) because it took 1 frost and 1 unholy .... and the pillar of ice could be used to get out of the paladins stun....you can always just right click it at the top of the screen to get it off you...so it works like a pvp trinket...kinda handy if you ask me....(i LOOOVE frost
I used to love playing frost before Frost Strike was avoidable. I could jump on someone and throw so much frontloaded burst into them with trinkets and Deathchill that they would just panic and fall apart before they even knew what was going on. Frost was obviously not viable in the strictest sense because it had no dispel protection and made the DK easy to kite, but it was still a fun spec to play, and being able to smash rogues in 4 globals and make them rage was worth being a little gimpy.
I think all 3 trees looks interesting and fun, so far it looks like blizzard has outdone themselves this time around with the classes and their talents. A tip for the future Simon, it is probably a lot less boring for you if you are the same class as Lewis and go threw it with him :) The pally videos were more fun to watch as well, for that reason.
On my premade DK it gave me two one-handers. Also, i have always found frost to be the most fun spec to be, even if i had to deal with all the noobs asking if i was supposed to be tanking.
Wow. KM now works with OB, which is fucking insane! Together with alot of haste which will also make your runes reset faster, and your autoattacks quicker ofc
oooh this is tough I love the changes to both frost and unholy in cata. that ghoul looks so badass especially with shadow infusion when it's just normal. but 2H frost is making a comeback :O choices
If for no other reason, there two talents for dw, whereas 2h only has one. That can be both better and worse, depending on how you want spend the extra ten talent points. I have found having done both dw and 2h, that dw has higher dps, although individual hits obviously hit for less.
that glyth for pillar of frost is more for pvp, since i'm sure you can just remove the buff it gives you and you just use it as a second trinket kind of thing
Pilllar of Frost w/ glyph can be removed ely fast, since it is a buff on u while u are freezed^^, u can just do a simple macro #Showtooltip pillar of frost /cast pillar of frost /cancelaura pillar of frost Now that's 2 fast clicks and it's gone.

I know what spec I'm going with my DK. I want big numbers. I may spec Blood as my offspec just so that I can tank solo some group quests while I'm leveling. It's too bad I'll have to leave Unholy out of the mix, since I'd rather go Frost/Unholy than Frost/Blood, but I need to have a survivability spec.
so overall, witch is better for pve (i.e. dungeons/raids)... i've heard a lot of people say unholy is better because your constantly doing damage with diseases and the ghoul so you put out more damage, where as frost you don't constantly do tons of damage, but you put out large bursts of damage... in my experience at level 60, i was doing 540 dps in dungeons as frost and 900-950 dps in dungeons as unholy, but idk if that changes higher level
i use bladed armour and i forget what its called but in the unholy tree theres a buff that increases your crist chance by some percent, but i hope they debuff pallys
@Johanyo2 Well, NOW, Frost is amazing dps but I recommend a dual-wield for it, blood is the self healing tank spec and unholy is diseases and your pet sort of dps. Pvp= Unholy or possibly Blood Pve= All of them
Right now Frost 2h deals more dmg than 1h, because 1h is bugged in that the offhand Strikes deal 25% dmg instead of 66% or what it would be talented ( 50% baseline*30% if i remember correctly it isnt additive ) dunno what will be better when that gets sorted out. Im getting around the same dps as unholy ( around 15k in a heroic ). On the topic of not seeing big numbers: 20k festering strike crits? 27k templars verdict? 25k starsurge? 15k ghoul cleave crit? 20k flamelash? :X
They don't have a percent for Killing Machine... Bliz's philosophy (in live) is that each rank affects the number of times per minute KM pops up (ie rank 1 procs once a minute, rank 2 twice, etc)... it's more like an X% chance to proc based on what wep(s) you're using (1 2H or 2 1Hs) with a Y sec ICD. I assume that rank 1 of KM now just does ~2 times per minute and so forth. As for Frost doing Ranged Damage... whaddoya think Icy Reach is for? :P Also, I didn't see enough Word of Glory spam! >:O
Making Mind freeze free is a dps increase in disguise, the less runic power you have to use on interrupting mob spells(Like OMG you gonna die if you dont interrupt this spell) the more runic power you can use on frost stikes which is a rather big portion of your damage. Frost isnt suppose to be only 2Handed weapons(its accualy more focused on Dualwield) its just there so you have a choise of weapons. Wanted to make a better argument but ran out of letters to make a longer argument

Alright so I have a question... I have used both Unholy 2H and Frost 2H. I refuse to use dinky 1H weapons and my gear is 6.3kgs (not that that matters but i heard 2h frost is better with high level gear) But I was originally unholy and then switched to frost for a few weeks but found that, sure, frost puts out instant 10-13k dps in any mob. but when i ran ICC10 with my guild i wasn't topping out nearly as close on bosses in frost as i was in unholy. Is frost more just burst damage then?
well considering in most five mans you have to interrupt something, endless winter is a decent ability for pve, and rpm is for incase you get over 100 rp for another frost strike, though in most cases you really wont get there unless free howling blast procs alot
@abyschan Good luck getting 30k crits on resilience geared people. Frost is probably going to be pretty dominant for awhile due to KM giving you gauranteed crits as opposed to the control aspect of unholy. frosts big issue will be getting global'd thanks to resilent infection and your diseases getting chain dispelled. *which wont be all that bad come cata* Yay for expensive cleanse!
also like to add which you probably know threat of tharassian (i think its spelt) lets you hit with both weapons and if anything like live even tho 2H frost is shit on live it hits about the same as 100% on 2 1H weps is more than likley the same as 100% on a 2H /nerd talk over

It pains me to see that when lewis used the glyph of pillar of frost glyph he didnt realize that its purely a 'get out of' ability... Basically that means if somebody had feared/rooted you, you then pop this ability to get out of the initial fear/root and you then cancel the buff in the top right corner, and abra kadabra your no longer rooted/feared :)
I have a feeling that you're using some sort of priority macro. How else are the buttons on the right side of your screen dancing up and down. tut tut.
Noobs!! for raiding mind freeze reduce is really needed to interrupt and more runic power means more frost strike... frost is actually a good method for DPS since Cataclysm there are nearly no crap skill points to use
im sure you could just right click the piller of frost buff to remove it, and is it just me or does the icon for piller of frost look like an erect frozen willy...please someone agree with me :(

Just a tip, the Pillar of Frost glyphs purges all stuff that makes you lose control, then you can just /cancelaura it and move again
Root isn't counted as a loss of control so it would not break it. And you can de-click the buff to move again before the 20 seconds.

you can use lichborne to heal yourself if i remember correctly cause you can death coil yourself when you become undead

You need to be Blood Striking a lot more to keep your Blood Runes as Death Runes.

The 0 runic power mindfreeze is to encourage dks to help interrupt shit, like a counterspell for mages

Endless Winter is sometimes helpfull in pve,when you need to interupt a cast.
In pvp... use pillar of ice, and remove it by right clicking it on the buff i think.
You could also use pillar of frost as an extra pvp trinket, and just click it off right away. Just sayin'.
I use the frost spec all the time, I get good DPS but I don't know if Duel wield or 2hand is better.

try it now in mop as a lvl 90 frost you can crit to 100k if lucky :D

im a frost dk in Pvp and i pwn hitting 78k crits and 80k+ crits in pvp so i woud say frost is damn good for pvp especially

frost is the best dps for a dk....not everyone can be blood, and also frost is good because it offers duel wielding buffs and 2hander buffs

Hungering cold is under rated , once in bg i killed 3 people that was about the same geared using it :P and they was all attackin me
