      I've seen this restaurant multiple times but I always thought it was a white woman because I never went inside or got close enough to see the sign. It's been faded that color since I was little, and it doesn't look like s good restaurant so that's probably why a lot of black people have never said anything about it.

    • @atlien1988
      @atlien1988 7 лет назад +2

      Caleb Fisher it isn't faded. They deliberately lighten the skin of Mammy so it wouldn't be as offensive. If you were driving by and had no clue of the place of the history of the South, you would think it was an older Asian lady. However, we KNOW what Mammy means in antebellum South.

Our band march the streets in Natchez downtown, it's a lot of historic crap down there. White people do not like black people there... I mean it's still racist. A lot of black people just stay in their lane, really don't do to much mingling with the white people and I am sure that is why no one mention it. Also deep in Ms. They have a plantation and houses and re-enactments of slavery in Ms. Same in Louisiana on HWY 84. Everyone wants a mammy. These women were known to be sweet, kind, caring , awesome cook and hard workers. Their dresses were feminine and modest. They had a humble spirit and treated everyone with kindness and respect. Mammies are an inspiration to others and their character is diminishing today. Some of people yearn to be like a mammy or desires to have someone in their lives who reflects her caring character. Btw, that Mammy magnet might replace a Virgin Mary.

    An easy fix would be to paint the face white, rename the restaurant, "Mommy's Cupboard", AND get rid of the magnets!

    You say nobody is saying nothing. I tried let you know what’s up give you all the facts but no response. You want truth or just to keep pushing your opinion. Knowledge is power.

    Ooooo WEE!! Wouldn’t hurt for someone to leave the stove on and the place sadly burns to the ground- with no insurance pay out.

    Phil, it just so happens that I may be taking a road trip from NJ to TX. I am supposed to drive through MS to get there. If it works out that the restaurant isn't too far from where I am, I will take pictures and snoop to see if I can get you more info on it to help your case. I can't make any promises but if it happens I will do that for you, I want to do anything I can to help the cause and spread awareness of the injustices going on.

    Yes Phil, very sick display indeed turns my damn stomach these ppl continue to terrorize us only because there are so many of us who allow these mokings and sinister behaviors to continue. No you are not crazy and yes this should be considered unacceptable. It also speaks to the level of obsession that these individuals have with us.
