Gemini 12 (officially Gemini XII) was the tenth crewed spaceflight mission of NASA's Project Gemini, which flew from November 11 to 15, 1966. Commanded by Gemini VII veteran James A. Lovell, the flight featured three periods of extravehicular activity (EVA) by rookie Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, lasting a total of 5 hours and 30 minutes. It also achieved the fifth rendezvous and fourth docking with an Agena target vehicle.

Historical narration (from mission commentary, NASA documentaries and progress reports, and TV and radio broadcasts sourced from LM5 and Apollo16uvc are used in an attempt to capture the feeling of the times. Language and attitudes should be seen in that context.

Retro Space Hd, it's with great sadness that I must inform you that Astronaut Richard Truly (Flew on the Approach and Landing Tests, STS-2 and STS-8) passed away yesterday.

Hanks played him too serious in the movie. Seeing him joking around in the launch pad white room proves that.

Gemini was really incredible, some many tasks to run through, and a implement a couple years later on a giant Saturn with the LM and Command Module. Fascinating footage

Amazing recovery work! Wasn't aware about this good quality entry video from Gemini. The audio was apparently copied from Artemis 1, or did it really sound so similar in the 1960s as on Artemis 1?

18:03-24:17 During the 1950's to the 1980s smoking was generally accepted as standard practice (unacceptable today) (examples include everyone in mission control lighting up cigars after the crew was onboard the aircraft carrier, Ronald Evans bumming a cigarette from a sailor after Apollo 17 landed and Jay Greene smoking pipes and was smoking a pipe while ensuring that everything associated with the Challenger disaster was secured) (they prohibited smoking by the 1990s). Most notably, those in mission control (as seen on the film on Gemini XII with the ashtray filling up with cigarette butts) were smoking like chimneys with their favorite cigarettes because they thought it was the only way that they can go to the moon. By the time of the late 1980s, NASA had prohibited smoking at every NASA center. Also, NASA was encouraging the astronauts to quit smoking because not only that it was bad for their health (notably Walter Schirra quitting smoking before Apollo 7 and William Pogue before Skylab 4) but because they were cultivating the image of "The Right Stuff" and seeing astronauts smoking would have made NASA look bad.

That story about Ron Evans was hilarious. They (Gene and Jack) had encouraged him to stop smoking before the flight, advising him to use the flight as an opportunity to quit cold turkey, but the first thing he did after the congratulatory ceremony on the carrier was to ask a sailor (like you mentioned) for a cigarette, much to Gene & Jack's dismay, haha.

I started in MOD in the late 80's. My supervisor, who worked Gemini and Apollo was a chain smoker. He was a bit bitter about not being allowed to smoke cigars in the MOCR. We was still around a few years ago. Not sure if he gave it up or not.

Another fantastic video . Thank you Retro Space HD . What do you think that is rising above the earth at 38.32 ? Its almost like an arc or ring . It reminds me of the band Rainbows down to earth lp cover . I am assuming it might be a tail created by reentry ? Interesting looking whatever it is ? Thanks again
