    Thanks for posting the video. I have the same model and started having a rough idle. I ran an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) that returned a pending TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) notification. I tried to clean the throttle bodies to see if that would change anything, but she still had a rough idle. Disconnected the battery and reconnected to clear CEL (Check Engine Light) and ran for a day until CEL came back. Misfire Cylinder 3. RUclips research led me here. I ordered 6 new plugs and ignition coils for both sides. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but with this video, I was able to replace all the plugs.
    The only thing I'd add to people looking to do this themselves: The passenger side gave me some trouble. I think there's some fancy editing in this video that glosses over the two bottom e-torx bolts on the computer bracket. I removed the top two thinking I was done and tried to pry up the bracket noticing it wasn't coming off. I had a difficult time getting tools to reach the bottom two e-torx, because of the way the cable routing is. I personally didn't know how to remove the strap clips that held them in place, so I did it the wrong way and pryed out each clip and then just shoved them back in after installing. The bottom two e-torx are near each other. One is in the same direction as the other two at the top. The last e-torx is perpendicular with the bolt head toward the cabin of the Cadillac. It was a challenge to get light in the right spot and to move around the wiring harness to gain access to the bolts with a tool. I ended up using a swivel head and long extension for the rear facing e-torx.
    Replacing the ignition coil and spark plugs fixed my rough idle for now.

      Brandon,
      Glad to hear your car is running better now. The computer bracket on this engine had been removed many times and was missing several bolts which is why it is not in the video. Thanks for providing this additional helpful info.
      This CTS in the video also had a TPS code. The previous owner had already replaced the throttle body and the wiring but they neglected to solder the new wiring to the old one. Once I soldered the connections the TPS code never returned.

    I'm doing valve cover gaskets and had to remove the plate like you did around 2:45. I ended up using an 8mm box wrench for the one behind the wires pointing toward the wheel well. I used a universal joint and extenders and an e10 torx to get to the other one, facing the passenger cabin. At that point in your video, there's some visual effects, and not much explanation as to how you removed them. Is there anything you did to make it easier?

      On the vehicle shown, the brackets had been removed and improperly installed, so there wasnt much detail for me to show. Another commenter pointed out the same thing and provided a bit more info. I will quote him here:

    Should we be disconnecting the battery prior to electronic systems repairs?

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  6 лет назад +1

      The answer depends on what specific repairs you are doing. Replacing an alternator or starter? Definitely disconnect the battery in those situations. Replacing/disconnecting a component that is not powered when the key is off? Probably don't need to disconnect the battery.

    • @JGizzardofOz
      @JGizzardofOz 6 лет назад

      Lehew Tech so, these aren't coils in the traditional sense. There's no possibility of "stored" energy? I am about to take mine apart. I should record it running and post a video for your opinion. World's fastest reply btw. Thanks.

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  6 лет назад +1

      Jason Gilliam no, these coils only store energy while voltage is applied to them. The moment the ecm cuts power to them they discharge thru the spark plug making it spark. If your engine was running poorly prior to the repair and has a check engine light, dosconnecting the battery b4 the repair can help the computer reset, but it not required. I don't typically disconnect batteries because I can clear codes and reset computers with my scan tool. Good luck with getting your caddy sorted out.

    Ok so I removed the coil pack and there was motor oil under the coil pack should I be worried

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  6 лет назад +1

      Yes you have a leaking tube seal. Time to change the valve cover gaskets and tube seals. Oil can soak into the coil pack boots and cause them to swell up

      The purge valve is located behind the intake plenum near the firewall. One of the rubber hoses that comes off the top of the intake manifold leads back to it.

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  7 лет назад

      I would check a few basic things to determine how to proceed. Are there any OBD2 error codes set or pending? When does the problem occur? (example: After a cold start or only after warmed up). There are many causes of a poor idle such as a vacuum leak, loss of compression, poor fuel quality, malfunctioning injector etc. The more information you can find makes it easier to diagnose.

    How can this car have such a terrible design under the bonnet? ECU is sitting above spark plugs 1-3-5 OMG. Power steering location is a nightmare.
    It is the same as Cadillac Catera in the US or Opel omega in Europe. If they could not improve design from Omega, than they could just keep it. Instead they decided to make it terrible.
