    Awesome! I skipped MLB the Show 23 and just came to 24. I scouted my first franchise year myself and did basically what you did for pitchers only I came away with an A (93) pitcher, a B pitcher and two Cs and two Ds. My second franchise year I followed your scheme and had 6 draft picks starting at #27. I walked away with 5 As and 1 B (89). One of the As (3rd round) was a 99. Full disclosure, 4 of my picks were SPs and all were 50s OVR except for my 99, who was 61 OVR. 4 of my picks came from discovered prospects, including the 99 OVR. Thank you!

    This is THE BEST scouting system I have seen for MLB 23 & 24. Learn what Fiend teaches and you will have more good, young players than you know what to do with. One thing I do is every week when I scout a position player, I change position interest to match his position so I can get extra interest. Starting Pitchers pretty much stay checked on that list every week. The other two choices are fluid based on what I'm scouting for that one week.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад +2

      That's a good way to go. I'll change it once I find someone that is really good so I can get passive interest on them, especially if they started really low. Changing weekly could be really effective as well.

    Hey! Keep coming back to this vid as it’s super useful. Got a discovery scout question - does their POS or Pitching rating impact on the quality of their discovered prospects? Have a few discovery scouts to choose from that have 90+ discovery and would be interesting to know. Also, is there a difference between a 90-94 discovery and 95-99 rating and the player ratings of their discovered prospects?
    Read through all the comments and didn’t see this come up.
    Thanks and you have a great channel!

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  День назад +1

      I don’t know 100% for sure, but to my knowledge the only rating that impacts discovery is the discovery rating itself. If it’s only a little bit extra money, I would go for 95+. You get a max of 4 players either way, but in other cases you get a boost every 5 points in rating so I’d imagine it’s the same with discovery.

One thing I’ve seen and heard, even in this video is scouting people who are gonna fall before your pick. What‘s the range that you would suggest for that premise? (Say for example I have pick 20, how far ahead or behind should I scout for players?)

    • @fiendfranchise

    For SP, its well worth using 'Scout Position'. Just go through and check which region has the most (usually International, with a close second being either East or Central) and put your main pitching scout on that region for 6-7 weeks. While it does take a lot of time, if you have 2 good pitching scouts 90+ efficiency, you can cover the 2 regions with the most SP, and you end up with a lot of really good players that were previously not ranked coming in fairly high on your board giving you good later round picks. Sometimes even seeing some unranked guys jumping into the top 20 on your board. I got lucky in one draft were I did a couple weeks of discovery in international SP and found a near-generational pitcher unranked who was #1 on my board and I got him at R1-Pick 21 because no other teams knew about him. I probably could have waited to see how long he stayed available, but it was a no brainer pick. 84 OVR/94 POT/87% SIGNING at 18 years old. My rotation is so good by that point, that I even able to leave him in AAA for a season.
    I will have to try using Discovery more though. This is another strategy I will try to mix in with my own.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад

      That’s literally what I did and suggested with pitchers in the video… except I just use one scout to do the two regions. Using two pitcher scouts doesn’t leave enough time for position players in my opinion.

    • @gdn86
      @gdn86 2 месяца назад

      @@fiendfranchise Yeah, I commented half way through and realized we landed on the same strategy. I left it since it was agreeing with the video. I started using more discovery and have been finding better high C/B potential players with higher starting overalls which is good for rebuilding quickly. I have only seen 1 high A level talent come from it though which oddly enough was before I watched this. Scouting position players is tough since you only get maybe 5-8 per position per region and it takes at least 5-6 weeks to get a decent idea of talent and you might have wasted 6 weeks. Unless you need 1 specific position you can really pump time into every draft, its easier to just draft a ton of SP every year since you can scout 25 per region, and trade them for those higher end position guys later. It's a bit of an exploit, so I'm going to start trying to make the drafts more realistic and not accept every stupid trade the CPU throws at me. They either offer their best prospect at 22 years old, 95 potential who is having a rookie of year caliber season or they want your best player for C potential players in the mid 50s. The trade logic is all over the place. It's improved from last year, but if they have a good starter in their late 20s in LF, and a top rookie behind him, they won't move the rookie to CF or RF to replace their mid 70s journeyman, they just put the lower overall rookie with 98 potential on the trade block. I traded for Spencer Steer from the Reds to boost my outfield, and a few days later the guy behind him (a generational talent mind you) was off the trade block.

  • @85dresden

    I says to always scout the generational bc of the increase to their interest level. Good tips. I have a similar strategy but yours if more fine tuned than mine. It'll be an easy adjustment for me to make.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah for that reason I usually put at least one week into the generational players and also put them as one of the positions of need so that the interest won't be a problem. But I rarely will take the time to fully scout a generational. Just takes too much of the limited scouting time.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  Месяц назад +2

      Nice detail! For Salazar, when he was fully scouted he had a max overall of 80 and a max vision of 61. Since we know that all generational hitters have 60 vision (1 below his max) we also know that his overall would come in 1 below his max.

    • @BrandonMeisner
      @BrandonMeisner Месяц назад

      thank you! can you also elaborate on your scouting strategy with respect to getting coverage over the whole draft? i tend to to spend 3-4 weeks looking for my first round pick and then scout guys i like around the mlb rank of my next pick and so on.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  Месяц назад

      @@BrandonMeisner that one is less of a set thing for me. I generally scout until I have about 5 guys that I could take with my first round pick. Unless I’m picking top 4 then you need less. Then I move on to other picks in top 75. I find very little success past that range for position players without discovery. For pitchers you’ll naturally find players all around the board by scouting regions.

Reliever is the hardest position to build through the draft, but most prospects are also cheeks and it’s hard to pick them out at a glance. Closers at least tend to have better potentials, but you also don’t get depth from them, they’re all gone by Round 3. Any tips?

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад

      Sometimes scouting relievers in a region can be worth it, with the 4 weeks left after scouting two regions of starters. But usually I will just take flyers on them in the last couple of rounds to see if one of the guys I discovered ends up being any good. Depending on where you're at in your rebuild, taking one of the awesome closers early if you have any competitive balance picks is worth it in my opinion.

      @fiendfranchise  9 дней назад +1

      Those later rounds are heavily reliant on discovery. When you don't have good discovery options, that's when you will take more players you haven't scouted. But I have had drafts where I scouted everyone I took and some where I only took a flier on a reliever in the 6th round I didn't scout.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  Месяц назад +1

      I usually draft RPs in rounds 5 and 6 early in my rebuild depending on how the draft goes. You won't scout them but in the very late rounds its low risk and a lot of the RPs that you discovered will still be available.
      Once your franchise is in a better spot, you can use the last 4 weeks with your pitching scout on closers if you want a closer in the top 50 of a class.

Let's call that the unscouted dividend. Then add the fully scouted low and high potential number. I believe I have been able to translate it and send my comments.
    Nice to meet you.
    I am Japanese like Shohei Otani.
    Your video commentary on scouting for this franchise is excellent.
    I have a couple of questions.
    Question one. This video uses MLB The Show24 for the explanation, but is it possible to use MLB The Show23?
    Question two.
    When scouting by region of origin, before changing to another region or posion,
    What percentage of scouting progress should be made before changing to another region or position?
    Question three.
    Which baseball team are you a fan of?
    And who are your favorite players?
    This is about the only question I can think of right now,
    It is conceivable that we will be asking them again.
    MLB The Show is fun, but there are very few Japanese who play it.
    Very sadly, there may be only about as many Japanese playing The Show franchise as there are MLB bullpen pitchers.
    This is because it is very difficult to find Japanese players who know the game system of The Show franchise, and it is very difficult to solve any questions that you may have.
    Thank you for reading this far.
    I am waiting for your answer.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  10 дней назад +1

      Hello!
      Yes, this system works great in MLB the Show 23, that is the game that I first used this scouting strategy for, and had excellent results.
      If you scout a region 5 weeks, everyone will be at least 80%, which I think is a good point to have a good idea of how good everyone is in that region. I would say the same percentage is good for individual scouting. Though if you want to know injury risk, 100% is required.
      I am a Padres fan, mostly because Fernando Tatis Jr is my favorite player. I also like the way the Braves have built their organization, and love Ronald Acuna. And of course, Shohei Ohtani is always fun to watch.

      So you are a Padres fan!
      As for Japanese players, Yu Darvish and Yuki Matsui are more familiar to you as a Padres fan than Shohei Otani.
      Tatis Jr. is the type of baseball player we don't have many of in Japan, and his flashy style of play makes him fun to watch for me, too.
      I especially enjoyed Tatis Jr.'s home steal!
      I don't know much about the Braves' team-building methods. I would like to know more about how the Braves build their teams.
      Ronald Acuña surprised me by becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 41 home runs and steal 73 bases in a season.
      I thought Ronald Acuña was the cover player for MLB The Show 24 because of this record last year.
      I was off by a landslide though 🤣.

    • @fiendfranchise

    Anybody else notice a SERIOUS lack of depth and talent for position players? After about 8 years of simulation I have an entire franchise filled from top to bottom with prime Verlanders at 88+ potential, from starters to closers, to MLB to Single A. I just can't draft position players past say the 3rd round. I understand it would be easier to get pitchers since there will be more pitchers than specific position players, but majority of the time there won't even be position players available to draft AT ALL past the 5th round for certain positions. That's obviously not realistic, and the only high potential guys left late for position players are like 48-52 overall, which these guys will never do anything, the overall is just too low.
    Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or others have noticed this too. Seems WAYYYY more difficult to find good or even solid position players past the 2nd round, but extremely easy to get pitchers.

    I'm somewhat confused about what you said regarding overall numbers. You seemed to indicate if his actual overall is two points less than max projected overall then all of his attributes will be two points less than present max. How do you determine what his current overall is? Even when fully scouted his card still lists overall as a range.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад

      You don’t know overall until after the draft. I used the 65 overall example to demonstrate what the player card would be given that overall. Just to explain that a guy doesn’t come in on the low end of the overall range and the high end of the potential range. If they have a 15 point range (like a fully scouted 18 year old will) and their overall ends up being 10 points less than the maximum, then every rating in their scouting card will also be 10 points less than the maximum.
      Because of this you can avoid scouting players that have a small gap in the ranges between overall and potential, because 99% of players will never start above 75 overall.

    • @azbdizzy4176
      @azbdizzy4176 2 месяца назад

      @@fiendfranchise I'll give an example. Fully scouted player has an overall of 85-95. As a general rule will he end up with 89-90-91 overall? Somewhere in the mid point? Or is it anywhere from 85 to 95?
      That would be extremely valuable to know since you figured out how it directly relates to their attributes.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад

      @@azbdizzy4176 No they can end up on any point in that scale, but to further your example, say the player is a pitcher and has:
      Overall: 85-95
      Potential: 88-98
      Stamina: 81-91
      K/9: 72-82
      BB/9: 55-65
      etc, etc.
      That means his potential will be 3 higher than his overall, his stamina will be 4 lower than his overall, his K/9 will be 13 lower than his overall, BB/9 will be 30 lower than his overall, etc.
      So if you draft him and he is 85 overall (the minimum rating on his scale) he will have 88 potential, 81 stamina, 72 K/9, and 55 BB/9, all also the minimum ratings on their scales. You can use this to see whether or not you'll like the player.
      Generally speaking, you want a player that has a potential more than 3 higher than his overall. In the case of this example, you'd probably still draft him because he's a minimum of 85 overall (assuming you scouted him with a good scout you trust he's actually that good). But that archetype is very rare in the game. 99% of players don't start higher than 75 overall.

    • @fiendfranchise
      @fiendfranchise  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah I can try to explain more:
      Non-generational players don't really ever start at higher than 75 overall (except a rare new build they added this year I didn't know about when I made the video). Due to that, you can assume the best-case-scenario for 98% of guys will be 75 overall to start.
      With the gap tip I shared in the video, Laird had a overall scale of 60-94 and a potential scale of 65-99. His max overall was 94 and his max potential was 99. Max potential (99) - Max overall (94) = 5. So we know that whatever rating he ends up with, his potential will be five higher than his overall. Since 75 overall is his best-case-scenario, the best he could possibly be is 75 overall with 80 potential. Which is technically not guaranteed C because 80 is B potential but very close to guaranteed C or lower.

    Would you just get 2 90+ efficiency/90+ POS player scouts? And then discover POS players with the third? And, since they're positional players, scout them one by one with the other two?

      That would be pretty risky. You could do that for part of the period but I’d at least put 5 weeks into scouting one region of pitchers. Just because discovering position players is no sure thing and finding good position players down the board who aren’t discovery is rare in my experience. I’d want at least some pitching options I could take late that could be trade pieces.

      So you like :
      1. the broadcast saying the same thing over and over again, not just in multi-games but in the same game itself.
      2. You like the fact that the game doesn't use a dynamic weather system where you can start the day with clear skies but end the game with rain.
      3. You like how, in regional broadcasts, they don't have broadcasters from the actual teams; they just use the same two broadcasters.
      4. You like the fact that instead of pausing the game and going to quick manager to choose things like steal or hit and run (for offense) and having to pause the game to change your defensive alignment, they could use a signs gameplay format.
      5. You like how you don't get to charge the mound after you get hit by the ball several times.
      6. You like how you can't argue with the umpire and be thrown out of the game.
      7. You like the generic umpires.
      8. You like how when you trade someone, their photo on the Jumbotron becomes a generic create-a-player, whereas the last time you played against them, they had an actual photo.
      9. You like how the fans look and move like they are from a PS3 game.
      10. You like how there are no cutscenes from fans catching a foul ball or no-doubt home runs.
      11. You like the generic intros into the game with no special themes for things like Mother's Day or July 4.
      12. You like how they don't show close-ups on great catches or close-up plays and how it's always from a distance.
      13. You like how crowds don't have any impact on the game.
      14. You like how catchers can't have mound visits.
      15. You like how they just go straight to a prompt telling you about the injury and not showing it, or that a pitcher can be hit by a 111 EV ball and still stay in the game, or that a batter can get hit in the head by a 100 mph fastball and just walk down to first like he was hit by a beach ball.
      16. You like how there is no option to train with the coaches.
      In other words, you like a cookie-cutter money grab.
      I sent a in 35 page doc addresses these issues and a lot more and giving suggestions. eps. suggesting SDS to not put out another game for 10 years and just work on MLB the show 34 and overall the whole system.
