    Honestly, I chose the cb from the get go since mh4u, and used it until rise. When it came out, I finally understood that this weapon felt too slow for my playstyle (I enjoy much more quick weapons) and that I've never even took a look at any weapon other than cb, and decided to main the db. It's been roughly 3 months since I've switched weapons and never have I ever killed monsters so fast before. While I always needed 20+ minutes for a single hunt before, I now only need 10~13 minutes at most, and it's so satisfying ! I feel so refreshed and happy with my performances, despite me still needing some serious training to kill monsters in 5 minutes like the best players, but anyway, I'm happy to have switched weapons

    Nice video, just an addition... The pike missile changes bloom the longer you hold the shot. So at the start it aims as a cone and is best for close range boop or combination with slices, then it goes to pinpoint which is going to hit long-range behemoths alot easier and it's the best damage in the bloom, and finally cone before firing anyway which is the least damage and it's the failed state of the Slayer teaching that it's better to know what and how you're shooting before you fire. There's also like 5 weapon mods that boost or change primary uses for a weapon and three different ults per weapon, so you can make the sword a counter weapon for example. Then there's the per behemoth's unique effects and keystone legendary abilities. There are so many customisable weapons

  • @mas8705
    @mas8705 3 года назад +1

    To be completely honest (and what I said in the previous video), I feel like there should be some kind of "defensive weapon" of sorts. The biggest issue I feel like I run into Dauntless with is how all the weapon (while being all unique) have the same approach to them which is to go on the offensive all the time. Something to which would be nice, but for those harder hitting monsters, having something that can let you either "reduce the damage taken" or even a simple concept of "block" would be greatly appreciated so newcomers could use it to learn how the fight goes rather than learning by getting slapped and ragged doll'd from start to finish.
    What I hate though is that they have gone on record to say that they have no intentions of putting in something like a shield since it would clash too much with the current feel of the game. Honestly, I would say, "learn what was done with Hades" where you could have a means to make the shield defensive, but you can still do things to make the shield just as offensive as other weapons. Hell, rip a few pages out of Captain America's playbook (Hades did in some regard) and make it where you can charge up a shield when taking hits and then when fully charged, you can toss that sucker to do big damage to the Behemoth. Kind of like what's with the Axe, but where you have to take hits rather than dealing hits.
    Nothing wrong with making something that's a touch "noob friendly" that way when they know how to better fight behemoths, they can swap to better weapons. Not asking for a miracle, but it does feel like Behemoths all hit like trucks and there seems like there's very little means to lower that damage output. I run a simple armor set that lets me heal when I drop under 50% since if I didn't use that, I'd be dropping left and right.

      to be fair if he's talking about it for the purposes of someone just getting into the game, there's not really a reason to bring up abilities and such that you have to unlock way down the line when that's not the experience that a new player would be having when they try the weapon for the first time.

    • @rykersixx
      @rykersixx 3 года назад +2

      @@BlazeMakesGames he asked for a thing the sword does have the option to do down the line. That shows he doesn’t know the weapon well enough to speak on it and any starting player who wants to know wether or not they want to main a weapon based on what’s possible down the line should get that info from a weapon review. At the very least he could of read the perks he doesn’t have in the trials store. I play both monster Hunter and dauntless and when I see a weapon review I expect to see all abilities and modifications that can be done talked about at the very least. New players need this info ASAP so they know what weapon appeals to them the most. The insult to injury part of that passing comment he made about wanting a parry on the sword is avenging overdrive which has it is arguably the best in slot special. Also from watching the other videos they have made on dauntless they are still new players.
      Tldr here anyone listening to this video I recommend watch someone who knows the weapons better than new players. There are dauntless creators who don’t talk out of their butt and have solved this game in its current iteration and place on the leaderboard consistently or at the very least have completed a dauntless difficulty trial.

    Hi, veteran dauntless boio here to correct some things. first up, hammer. its shells dont have great range so you can't really use them as a ranged weapon (theres one exception in the form of an exotic weapon but thats beside the point) and empowered shells last until you use them.
    secondly and more importantly, war pike. it's combos are a lot more complex than you say because you can mix and match heavy attacks and light attacks, so as long as you dont reach the end of one combo string, you can extend it with an alternate attack. this allows you to choose which move to perform at a certain time, and because heavy attacks dont do wound damage and light attacks don't do stagger damage, as well as heavy attacks being able to interrupt, its important to choose which attack you use when.
    Overall, you were mostly right, although your repeaters section is going to be outdated soon due to an upcoming rework, but good vid!

    • @sinteleon
      @sinteleon 3 года назад

      Fairly sure war pike basic attacks can't interrupt at all unless you specifically spec your armour skills for it...

      @@sinteleon Another Dauntless veteran boop: yes, you can easily interrupt behemoths, build specific or not. Either through chaining combos and building up a specific damage, or charging.

    • @sinteleon
      @sinteleon 3 года назад

      @@Eric-ft2oi That's a stagger, not an interrupt. >:C Interrupts (or boops in Dauntless nomenclature) are things you use to interrupt a behemoth when they have an exclamation mark, and always interrupt regardless of damage...
      Notably, most interruptable attacks has VERY small windows to get the boop through (along with some interruptable attacks being part of a rushing attack, making it even harder to boop within said window). Timing a stagger to match an interruptable moment is nigh impossible.
      EDIT: Hm, must've been thinking of the wrong weapon or have outdated info, I thought warpikes and repeaters didn't have innate boops without using specials or investing in the relevant armour skill...

    Switch scythe inspired by the switch glaive in Nioh 2. Guillotine form to build energy for scythe form scythe form builds energy for guillotine form and you can freely change between forms during combos. When both meters are filled you can activate whichever special you have equipped. The default one I would see you turning into reaper stance. Your attack speed and movement speed is increased, life steal helps heal party , and stamina consumption is reduced to 0. This is just a rough draft idea I came up with on the spot lol

    Another note on the Hammer for keeping up shells: if you hit RB right after finishing an attack (other than your full burst slam) you can instantly reload a shell. You can use this to maintain shells for the final slam while still using them to buff each attack if you have the opening for it. Or you can maintain aggro by attack reloading if you're out of shells instead of timing the perfect reload during the fight.

    I've always felt like the dauntless weapons feel a bit too rigid when I last played. The combos seem a bit too pre-baked if that makes sense. Like in Monster Hunter, I feel like the combos are way more freeform and you have a lot more options to switch things up mid-combo. Like take Longsword vs Sword right? With the Sword it feels like all I can do are these set combos to build up and use Valor with the only alternate option being to just like stop attacking or dodge and stuff. Whereas with the Longsword in Monster Hunter, you have essentially just one core basic Combo that does a simple attack loop yeah, but at any point in your combo you can not only do things like dodge to evade hits, but you can choose to go into your Spirit Combo, or do a Fade slash, or do a foresight slash, or an Iai sheathe. And a lot of those moves also have multiple options like how in your spirit combo you can sprinkle in other moves between your spirit attacks or you can do a fade slash straight into the third part of a spirit combo, or when you Iai sheathe you can dodge to stay sheathed and move away, you can do a normal draw attack to help build meter, or you can do a counter for big damage. And of course you have the silkbind moves on top of that which can also be used at any time after pretty much any move in any of these strings. Like in Dauntless it feels like the combos are already prescribed for me and I'm just using what I'm given, whereas in Monster Hunter it feels like I have dozens of options and I'm stringing together my own custom combos.
    Another very simple example that they even complain about in the video is the guns in Dauntless vs the Bowguns in MH. Like he said there's a lot of customization and whatnot but the moment to moment gameplay is just shooting and reloading and popping abilities when they're off cooldown and there's not much else. Whereas in Monster Hunter you have all of that, but you also have different Ammo Types, and the gameplay becomes much more interesting because you have to swap between potentially dozens of different kinds of ammo on the fly that all do different things and have different effects and manage and craft them while fighting. On the surface they're both weapons where seemingly all you do is point and shoot but I Think the moment to moment gameplay of a bowgun is far more engaging thanks to its ammo system.
    That's why I think I keep struggling to get into the combat of Dauntless. I love Monster hunter to death and I would happily enjoy playing more games like it, but Dauntless can't scratch that itch for me it seems.
    Also I feel like Dauntless should give people all the weapons from the start. There's a reason why Monster Hunter does that, it lets you try them all out nd you can see what playstyle fits you best. After all, each weapon is practically like playing its own game. So locking them away behind progression means you might be forcing players to play weapons that they don't enjoy just to get to the version of the game where they can start having fun.

    I notice that when talking about the sword you mention it deals slashing damage which lets you cut off parts easily. This is untrue, dauntless has no distinction between blunt and slash, hammers/strikers can cut tails, and other weapons like chain blades and axe are capable of stagger (the dauntless equivalent of stun)

    • @darthplagueis13
      @darthplagueis13 3 года назад +1

      Yes, but technically no. The devs have messed around with different damage types quite a bit, but whilst any weapon can cut tails and any weapon can technically stagger, there's still differences.
      Blunt weapons have an increase to stagger damage.
      Slashing weapons deal increased part damage to tails and other severable limbs (also used to deal bonus damage against wounded parts, but I think that was scrapped when wounds were reworked).
      Piercing attacks deal no stagger damage by default but cause wound damage.
      Repeaters... Honestly, idk what's going on with them, really, but iirc they also don't deal any stagger damage outside of extra perks.

      Or proper long range weapon for the matter. Repeaters aren't really considered long range (yes it can deal damage at long range, but said damage is so negligible an axe would outdamage it just on using the throws alone).

      Ligaar I would like to formerly apologise to you. We should never have had an interest in anything other than monster hunter, your gross assumption is an important reminder that people should not, and can not, make content on multiple things that are of the same genre. Especially games that have been covered in the past and the channel already had a history with - it's important to disregard those facts, so we can make strange, rude comments on youtube videos, I completely agree with you
      We'll try not to make this mistake again!

      @@fluffbulous3544 To be fair, the battlepass isn't THAT grindy and basically pays for itself if you max it out.
      Also another plus side on Dauntless, it actually has more combat variety than "Fight/capture monster" and "fight/capture monster, with specific restrictions" Admittedly MHR's rampage does alleviate some of the repetition, but Dauntless still effectively has more variety in that regard.

      @@sinteleon Iam so sorry to ask and please know that it is not my intention to compare the two games as a gamer i understand that genre exists of games where you hunt monsters and do grind in loop much like how Soulsborne can to be. Iam genuinely curious of variety you mentioned that Dauntless offers over MH, thanks in advance for anything you share. It gives me the idea you are saying that Dauntless has more than the typical hunt or capture aspect to it. In what form is it? i gave Dauntless a try before but didn't understand the mechanics but may be if you enlight me on pro and cons i might give it a second chance, with Rise waiting for new content i definitely could play Dauntless. At last sorry for writing out an essay.
